According to the fine folks at DC:
On this date, in 1939, DC Comics introduces its second major superhero in Detective Comics #27. Batman becomes a legend.
Over seven decades spawning numerous comic arcs, serials, films, television shows, memorable characters, the popularization of the term "prep time" into fanboy vernacular (and Zeus knows how many resulting argument) and so much more.

Still kicking copious booty, more popular than ever and looming as the central point of a film that will likely bring this forum's servers to their knees (again) in a little over a year, with no signs of slowing down... give it up for the Bat-Man/Caped Crusader/Dark Knight/Dark Knight Detective/World's Greatest Detective/Batman. :batty::batman::ybat::brucebat: :applaud

Happy Birthday Batmman! 72 years old, and not drawn to look a day over 35!

^ and he'll be in continous publication long after we're dead. :(

Detective Comics remembers when he only cost a nickel and when you could put a woman in their place with a "papa spank". Now he's yelling at those damn kids, Batman and Robin and Batman Inc, to turn the music down.

Yeah, he's an old man... but how do you think Zorro, The Shadow, the Phantom and the Green Hornet feel?

They are all older than dirt!
