Logan Versus Jobs

cam0830pi.jpg

Know what that’s a picture of, *******s? That’s me wearing the ACTUAL Wolverine claws from Xmen 2! Whoo! Isn’t that awesome? They’re plastic and we’re a little snug. My hands are a bit bigger than Hugh Jackman’s, clearly demonstrating my superior manliness and looks.

Prop Master extraordinaire Jimmy Chow was our guest speaker today. You can view his impressive resume here. Not only was he an entertaining and engaging speaker (the best one we’ve had so far) he brought in a bunch of the items he has created…including some top secret stuff from Fantastic Four 2 we weren’t allowed to take pictures of and he asked us not to discuss with other people. It broke my heart with anger when he told us about designing this awesome looking Reed Richards’ communicator for weeks and then having it turned down by the studio because thy had an 8 million dollar product placement deal with Nokia, so the Fantastic Four get to talk to each other on these square pieces of **** that will be available to the public soon and instantly antiquated by the time the flick hits video stores. Sean Penn once said, “Hollywood is much more creatively corrupt than it is economically [corrupt]. It takes $1 for them to kill their dreams. Their dreams are worth more than $1.” That movie, unsurprisingly I guess, was never about a story. It’s about moving units.

Mr. Chow also displayed some period skates from Little Women, from that scene where they skate on their periods. There was the opium pipe used by Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall, some breakaway glass from Shanghai Noon and tons more. It was funky, a nice perk of being a film student.

nothign wrong with it, it brings down budget. superman cost under 170 million after product placements.

That's business, shame though i'd like to have seen them use something unique that would have been a Reed invention

Ugh. Well, I hope Nokia's stuff looks decent. I've never been their biggest fan. :p

Very Nice....looks like they are working hard on the promotion...

well i've always had a nokia phone so hopefully me next one will be same on as reed richards lol.

I can see all the whiners complaining when the movie is released.

"FF sucked did you see those phones those phones sucked so the movie sucked."

Exactly - and if they'd never heard of this product placement deal, they never would have noticed. :whatever:

The phones could be used JUST in the advertisements, and still sell well. Why in the movie?

Then again, before BF, I did not know that Gotham had a macdonalds, nor that the statue of liberty was there, either.

Going by what we've seen in the setpics and reports they've also got product placement deals with Dodge Automobiles (Fantasticar), Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (Johnny's car), Lexmark, Channel V, Coco Cola iPod and Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water(advertising boards).$$$ Ka-Ching!!:woot:

If these guys are supposed to be using futuristic technology, they've failed. People in the theater will have iphones by the time they see this film.

In terms of technology the iPhone sucks so it really doesnt matter.

Most phones these days do what the iPhone promises to do and better. The only thing i can think off the top of my head is that its touch screen and will have built in flash memory. No big deal in my opinion.

Please don't let this movie get oversaturated with product placement.Sometimes movies overdo it.I,Robot &The Island are perfect examples.

My pet peve with the 1st movie. After the BMX thing, when Johnny is comming out with the girls around him, there were so many advertisments for products, it was a distraction from the rest of the scene. I know they need product placement, like the box of Corn Flakes on the kitchen sink. The Jiffy Pop in Johnnys hand, don't have a problem with those things, but when they overwhelm a scene, then that is not good.

Have you ever been to an X-games....????? thats EXACTLY what it looks like inside and outside the venue....the banners are wall to wall....that was purely REALISM....

I'm watching the Winter X-games right now.....I've seen Taco Bell, Schick, and Jeep wall to wall all the way down the snowboarding run......

Each athlete has banners all over them....their rides have banners all over them.....and each sport has its own sponsor...Taco Bell is the sponsor for the snowboarding run.......ooooh I just saw several Mountain Dew banners as well.....REALISM.....thats exactly what it looks like.....so what if the ones they chose to use had worked in the promotion.....it would be absolutely stupid to use generic advertising.....low budget at best is what it would look like.....and wow look at that....the winner of the snowboarding being shown drinking a Rockstar Energy Drink....and guess what....thats also on his Snowboard....again....I say....REALISM....

I agree with JMAfan ,The X-games is filled with advertisements. That's a smart way to get away with it.Eventhough the scene was kind of unnecessary.

This is a comic book movie, not reality. You want reality, walk down the street of the neighborhood I grew up in after dark. You'll see reality. I don't need advertisments plastered all over the screen of the movie I am trying to watch. I'll drive down the main street here in town if I want to see advertisments plastered all over, but I do not want to see it in the movie I'm watching, when it gets to the point of distraction.

So....because this is a comic book movie....they shouldn't have as much advertisment as they normally do? weak argument....try again...

Exactly. The comic book films are supposed to take place in the real world or a duplicate. It's not supposed to be some strange planet that Spider-Man lives on. Nothing wrong with Product placement as long as it doesn't get out of control. I liked how they did it in FF at the Extreme event...those kind of ads would have been there anyways and it fit in. Surely with the FF's popularity in the movie the ficitional companies would want to use the FF's image in turn giving Reed money to finance his work like the FF Car. I'm sure in the movie Dodge probalby paid Reed the funds and gave him the materials to make the car. It's a reflection of reality.
