One thing you have to remember. This isn't Universel's baby any more even though they are distrubiting it. It doesn't have to make the #'s you think for Marvel to make Hulking profits. Marvel doesn't have to split the DVD revenue and it gets the bulk of the theatrical revenue. Marvel doesnt' have to pay itself for the rights which can cost anywhere from a low of 5% before benchmarks up to 50% for the equity deals in place for films like The Punisher. Because Marvel gets the rights back the new MOVIE is going to be it's own advertisement for merchandise which is where the real money is made. Hulk is a merchandising machine. So hell even if The Incredible Hulk broke even or had a loss at the box office...Marvel would still make hundreds of millions in profits off of it. That's the beauty of it. That's why it's so cool Marvel got the rights back because if Universal was still the studio making it and it just broken even...the franchise would be dead.

However IMO this film will make 175-200 million domestic and 200+ overseas. The merchandise, tv rights, dvd sales profits...all go to Marvel.

This is why we want all Marvel movie rights...back at Marvel if possible. We know Sony will NEVER let go of Spidey and Fox will never let go of X-Men or Fantstic Four. The rest will revert to Marvel in the end.

Yeah i know all thid, but would Marvel honestly risk making a sequel if TIH just breaks even but sells lots of merchandise? That wouldnt be a wise strategy IMO.

Plus, Is GR likely to go back to Marvel at some point?

200+ overseas? Ohh, man. When I see grosses from other Marvel movies like X-Men, Fantastic Four... TIH could make around 180. :word:

Did you think about what you just said? Of course they would. WIthout the movie the merchandise won't sell. The movie what sells everything. Trust me if the Hulk just breaks even in theatres but sells hundreds of millions in merchandise plus DVD's, tv rights, video games, etc...Marvel will keep making these films till the public demand wanes. Marvel is looking at the bottom of line...at the big picture. IT's not like Universal who just made money of theatrical and dvd's. Marvel doesn't have to pay itself and it get's it all after distribution fees. Think of the Hulk as a franchise and not just a movie. That's how Marvel looks at it. Almost why video game hardware makers take losses on the machines...so they can sell the software. Most films barely make 10% profit when all is said and done and those studios don't have the overall controll of everything because the characters dont' warrant it. Theatres are usually loss leaders for the real money.

Hulk is much bigger than Fantastic Four as far as potential and if not for the bad taste in the first film would have more appeal than the X-Men. The demand to see an awesome Hulk film is there. There's a huge fanbase that felt letdown the last time but they did show up in droves on opening week.

The movie doesnt neccessarily sell the merchandise, it may garner interest in it, but the merchandise sells pretty well without the movie doesnt it. I believe the merchandise for the first movie sold brilliantly, but the movie didnt do too well, indicating the merchandise sold itself.

While i agree that Hulk is bigger than the FF, i don think it is bigger than the X-Men. IMO X-Men has more of a built in fanbase.

X-Men has a much bigger fanbase on film since there has been 3, and of course their comics run has always been hot. As a character though Hulk has more potential on film than the X-Men, and we already know the video game and merchandise potential is pretty much ummatched. We just need a awesome Hulk film to strengthen the fanbase. I would argue the first film was awesome but it was NOT a film to strengthen or expand the fanbase.

Again i disagree, IMO X-Men had a bigger fan-base before either of them had movies. X-Men comics have always been hot sellers and the 90's TAS was much more popular than the Hulk one.

The movie is the marketing tool to sell the merchansie. It's proven fact and it's in the #'s. Trust me if they were NOT releasing a Hulk film and came out with a toyline it would sell but it will sell alot more when the movie is tied to it. That's why when movies come out for these characters all the stores pay big money to use these characters on their products...especially in grocery stores. That's also why they usually try to get the video game out near the film release. The film gets the mass exposure and pumps people up to see the film, it creates the most awarenss and helps sell everything else. It's marketing 101.

i have no doubt the merch will be big this time, from what i heard they are putting a lot of effort in to this to get the sour taste of the hulk out of our minds even tho personally i liked it.. but they want to market it more to a mass audience i belive.. more a traditional comic movie.. seems like there on the right track.. and since they are signed for 2 and 3 here in t.o then they dont even mention the first one . its a total reboot emphasizing the comic qualities more.. i could be wrong however just my opinion

If you read the synopsis they call this a "new beginning" for the franchise.

The more set pics and vids I see, the more I think I'm going to really like the movie. I really liked the urban feeling from the set videos.

yeah when i was down there i got the feeling of a classic monster movie or something, like a godzilla battle. cant wait to see this on screen. altho i been thinking, i was down there for so long when i actually see the movie i hope it doesnt take me out of it when i see the apollo sign, i mean i hope i can enjoy the movie without thinkign about everythign that happened behind the scenes .. just a thought. im sure i'll be fine tho lol

X-men had the better comic and was hot during the John Byrne era, along with Terry Austin inking and Chris Claremont writing. It rode the coat tails of tha success and hasn't suffered too much. The Hulk is a bigger property and is a Marvel icon as is SM, Cap America, Thor, FF, Iron Man, etc. X-men is not on the same scale, sorry. And that is not opinion , but fact. The Hulk is legendary ( hall of Marvel fame). Same cant be said for x-men.

Agree with EmeraldBeast.

That's another aspect what I love so far!

Yeah, i know this , but if the movie is **** and people dont like it, the merchandise wont sell too much.

Sorry, but i disagree, X-Men is possibly THE best selling Marvel comic of all time, as stated on the Men, Myths and Monstors documentary on the DVD. Plus the X-Men 90's TAS was FAR more popular than the Hulk one was.
