Watched this again at home, I liked it even more 2nd time around. Despite almost being a 1:1 remake they definitely kept the heart intact. Mason Thames is really good in the dramatic moments, as is Gerard Butler. Toothless is as adorable as ever.

I wonder if they will get Cate Blanchett, Kit Harrington and Djimon Honsou back for the sequel.

Cate Blanchett and Djimon Honsou feel like no-brainers because of how indelible those performances are and how tied they are to the characters, as well as the fact that they already sort of resemble and could very easily just play them in live action, much like Gerard Butler did with Stoick.

Kit Harrington is whatever in the role and I feel you could just cast anyone and it wouldn’t be a big deal.

Yeah I wouldn't disagree with that. I never saw the 3rd movie so not sure if It's character returns there. The guy could use the work that's for sure.

But yes Blanchett and Honsou could easily play they're characters.

To be honest, all I remember of him is that he switches sides and becomes a good guy in the second film and I don’t really remember much of what he does in the third film. I can’t even recall his name off the top of my head. I had to look it up. And apparently he’s also gay in the third film, which I probably would’ve remembered if they had actually done anything with him. That’s how unmemorable he is.

So, there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement and playing around with the writing for the character.
