Superman Returns A better way to deal with New Krypton?

Agreed 100% im so bored of this versus mentality:(

I haven;t seen the film but it seems to me what Superman was looking for when he went searching wasn't a piece of land that he used to live on but other kryptonians like himslef so that he would have some sense of what his race was about and where he came from

Kryptonians in the donner films don't have any use for their digestive systems I believe.

Now this would have been really interesting. Superman flies into New Krypton. This time there's no kryptonite of course. The place looks just like home. Lex comes out and says "see anything familiar" supes says "I see an old man's sick joke." Then underneath supes pops out these hula hoops that trap him (like the ones that confine zod in stm). From this point lex either tries to send superman to the phantom zone (oh btw, this krypton will have more than jagged rock, it'll have all the little 70s style tech everywhere too) or remove his power using the power of the krystals. Throughout the rest of the film we see superman (normal-man actually) still fighting to defeat lex. Lex opens a gateway into the phantom zone and New krypton gets sucked into it along with teschmacher 2.0 and the rest so it's not superman's actions causing his goon's deaths. superman regains his crystals, closes the phantom zone and uses the crystals to re-power himself like he did in stm2. Maybe his kid could help him at some point after he loses his powers, then he tells him he has to go back even if he's not all powerful, he's still superman... wow that'd have been inspirational.

I didn't hate the film. I was enormously dissapointed. I hated the Lex Plan, I hated Spacy as Lex , and I hated the "Returns" thing. There were no consequences to earth because of Superman's leaving.

Imagine if Lex had started his plan 5 years earlier and he was the one who sent Superman away. Lex now rules the earth and the people hate Superman. That's drama.

So the faults are the entire story, and Lex and mostly Lex's plan. I rather liked Routh and Lois.

Counter your post? I gave you a counter, you discounted it. And yes, SR was an homage to S:TM, I've never denied that anywhere -- so way to read in. It's just that its a much classier and sleeker S:TM, which actually attempts to create drama and conflict, whlie layering in some very radical and new dynamics.

Moving on to my supposed non-countering of your point:

It amounts to this. You're idea's better: Luthor should've invited Superman to live on New Krypton, despite him already having a Fortresss that resemebles Kryptonian in a beautiful monument.

Your idea. I like how you run over my point about the people not wanting Superman, something the film promised but did not deliver that would have made his sacrifice much more.

So, you're main things was: who's going to pay for that land and how are they going to eat and, what else, lemme check....oh, and Jason was a ploy considering that in the movie that has not yet been made there may be, may be, Kryptonian survivors coming.

I didn't say anything about who will play for the land but it's a good point. What good is currency on New Krypton? Jason WAS a ploy to show Superman he wasn't alone. It was cheap, and would seemingly rest upon a human Clark sleeping with Lois in the fortress before wiping her memory.

So, who would buy a bunch of HI-TECH land? Remember, Kryptonian land is almost living technology. It's technology and land mixed. So, when New Krypton would've FINISHED growing, we don't have a clue what would've come out. For all we know, the rocky protrusions we saw would have cracked and shed to create the glimmering crystal that we know since crystals do orignally start as ugly rock and some rocks are actually cracked open to finds gems. So, we know first and foresmot, an obvoius point nearly everyone missed, was that New Krypton was in its infancy, not even grown to full capacity -- it would've probably grown into a huge contininent of crystals just like the Fortress, with integrated technology and fortressed that could be created as Luthor continued to discover more about the crystals.

So it was going to suddenly turn into a highly polished World? Why didn't the fortress start off this way then? Rocks turning into the beautiful crystal structure.

Who would buy into that? Terrorists, for one. Warlords, two, Displaced peoples, three. To have access to those resources, an unlimited about of power, technology, and knowledge, would be priceless. And as New Krypton reached maturity, that would've been seen.

So Lex, with no real communication to the outside World is going to deal with terrorists from his New Krypton hub? Displaced peoples? Not sure what you mean here. I don't think Lex wanted to share his power with anybody he would just let them live on the land, not access to the crystals where people could fight back against him!

So, where's the food? Well, where was the food on Earth after the Big Bang happened? It takes time.

So how would Lex and co have survived in the futile hope of something growing? Would they go to land and get food, well surely they could then be apprehended there? How would he defend new Krypton? Start throwing chips of crystals into the sea in the vein hope they would turn into weapons?

So, we've established with logic who would buy. We've established that New Krypton was in its infant stages. And, let us also describe, that New Krypton wouldve been a new world order. Also, krytpo-rock is harmless to humans for now, but Luthor may have not seen the long-term effects, as he doesn't in the comics when he gets cancer. But that's good -- that's the fallcy of villanious arrogance.

No. You've generalised who might buy it. And you have assumed New Krypton was in its infant stages. It could just have well stayed like that.

Jason is a ploy? Useless. Well, think of it this way, Kryptonian survivors come back and Jason wants to go with them and not stay on Earth? Is he useless then, or have we introduced yet another dramatic strain that is hard for Superman to deal with? Or, Jason's biology continues to reject his hybrid nature and this group of Kryptonians can save him but have to take him with them. Is he useless then? That these Kryptonians, hope that Superman is not alone, is going to leave him alone on his planet, taking that hope with them, by taking away his son?

Jason's sole purpose in this movie was to show Superman wasn't really alone, as proved with the Brando speech at the end. We don't know when Jason's powers (if ever) will come into full fruition or when he'll find out who is his dad (how did the conception happen again? It's a bit...vague). Him going off with other Kryptonians won't happen until he's 16, unless you think Lois would let her five year old son go into a place where he may or may not survive? He sort of narrows any future films now he's fulfilled his main purpose.

So there's my refutations.

There.

Agreed.

However, the existing climate won't be conducive to that until both sides learn not to take themselves so seriously. Perhaps this thread should have been titled "A better way to deal with eachother?"

At the end of the day, it is just a film folks.

Not sure where to put this so I started a new thread.

The idea (so we were told) was Superman looking for his place in the World - he left to find out who he really is and where he came from. And when he came back the World has moved on without him, they don't want/need him anymore. His trip to Krypton ultimately ends in failure and he's lost what he used to have.

Surely New Krypton should have presented him with the chance to be back on his homeworld, Luthor could have used it to tempt him. 'Look, you're home. Isn't this what you wanted?'. It would have given more drama to the story, Superman has what he wants, the chance to experience home. The public doesn't want him anymore, why shouldn't he do something for himself? He's then faced with the choice, discover who he is or to save the Earth from destruction (Prehaps Krypton could have grown gradually destroying Earth and replacing it).

But... what would there be for Superman to LIFT? I know I CERTAINLY didn't see enough of Superman lifting things in this movie. I hope they make a sequel called "Superman Picks Up a Lot of Heavy Sh**," because I didn't get my fill this time around. :D
