Sequels A Change Is Coming

Venom's Mom kind of has a point. You remember how well that comic line sold? The Death of Superman is the highest selling comic of ALL-TIME, I believe. Just imagine, on the silver screen, in real life motion ... seeing the greatest hero of all, die in front of your very eyes. That would be really dramatic. It could, for all intensive purposes, be the first time a superhero dies on screen (and stays dead). Its shock value alone would bring in viewers.

Another problem with the franchise is the writing. Singer impressed on his writers to formulate a story that is conducive to today’s society, that the paying public could relate to, in it’s title character and, the situation and changes to a world he must adjust to; as well as, maintaining some sensibility to the Richard Donner films. The team failed horribly.

Seems like Singer downplayed the world without a Superman subplot in order to facilitate the Donner ode. Now as a former child of the 70's it was great to see the spirit of Donner's Superman on the big screen again, seeing as that was the intention of the artists, to play off my nostalgia, it's not a failure. Singer and Co. just didn't appeal to your demographic, so to you it seems like a failure.

Was that desicion Singer's or the studio? It seems like Singer was interested in a world without a Superman angle, he shot krypton, shot Luthor and Kumar plotting to fool Superman into exile, shot Superman adjusting to a violent world without him by reading newspaper clippings.

Did Singer just up and change stride mid stream to focus on a Donner requel, abandoning his original premise on a whim? Or is it possible the redirection was a studio imperative?

Is Singer likely to admit publically that he is subject to executive whims? Would he blame the hand that feeds him for shortcomings in the final product? Would the studio admit that they impose their executive will on creative endeavors, thereby undermining the audiences confidence in filmakers?

The answer to all of those rhetorical questions is of course, no.

So while you are so quick to condemn Singer for not meeting your demographic's entertainments needs, you don't know for sure who's at "fault".

As far as Superman being a stalker, well Curt Swan was depicting Superman invading ppls privacy with x-rays and superhearing long before most of you were born. Sometimes he'd even get choked up and a tear would stream down his cheek.

But it's ok if Superman invades your privacy, he's good at keeping secrets.

I was fine with Dougherty and Harris for X-Men 2, they did a good job on that. But Singer doesn't need to hire his boyfriends to write every single one of his movies. Just because they're good with one doesn't mean they'll be good with another.

heheheheeh :woot:

Yeah, because everyone I know who's had a child has just been so torn down by it all. No love, pride or joy in child-rearing. Nope.
Having kids is great.
Don't have any myself.
And I Love the family dynamic in some superheros like fantastic4(the book) and The Incredibles, First Family(from Astro City book) and Captain Marvel books.
I guess the argument is us Fan Boys are still waiting for an Ultimate Superman movie a la Batman Begins, Spiderman that take almost 90% of it's fundamental direction from the books. One only has to look at the Spidey3 trailer to know that indeed Raimi read 'Saga of the Alien costume' and 'Spiderman vs. venom' from late 80's early 90's.
A kick ass Superman movie with drama, intrigue and action and villains on par with last nights sneak preview (spidey3)fight between Harry and Peter is what we want sans a Superson.
Chris Nolan could probably (if he wanted to) pull off a kick @$$ Batman sequel with Robin but he says he won't and most fans are fine with that because it's really Batman we want to see. Same with Superman (worse actually) because Super Jason has never appeared in Supermans history before. He goes into the bargain bin for pointless 'made up' characters along with Nuclear Man. An unnecessarily puzzling element that redirects superman further from his core essence. He doesn't need a son yet.
If Singer refuses to look in the books (where the character was born), how can we trust him to interpret how Superman would act as a father?

Can you tell me what's wrong with what I posted?

Bryan Singer hires his boyfriend as the writer just as George Lucas use to hire his wife as his editor. What's your problem with it?

Come on now. If you think it's cool then keep on it.

Imagination.

Yes, you want directors do what you want. We all do. That doesn't invalidate the vision that goes further what's already done.

You make it sounds like if no previous writer did it then no director could even imagine how it would be like.

Well, a comic selling well doesn't make it the best material for a movie. In fact the whole story of Superman's death was not very good but no one wanted to miss such an historical fact.

Btw, Superman died in SR.

there is no way superman is gonna die after what happened in the hospital, it would be way to redundant. I dont read the comics but they need to follow a good story arc like they did with Batman Begins plus brighten up the color pallete!

Yeah... if he turns out to be Mr. Mxyzptlk
Thats a good idea, he could alter this whole reality Singer has bestowed upon us. Mxy should take us to the real Metropolis in the sequel, the one where Lex owns Lexcorp.:wow:
