A Departed sequel/prequel?

This doesn't need a sequel.
This is like giving Bambi or Cinderella a sequel...

...oh wait. :csad:

A prequel about Frank's rise to power might be pretty cool.

After thinking about it, I wouldnt mind a return to the departed universe. If MS manages to get deniro then I will be there opening day.

On second thought.....I don't want a sequel. The whole dynamic between Damon and Leo is what made the movie cool...take that out and it's just a regular undercover cop movie.

Prequel is ******ed... Jack is too old... and I don't even think an old Dineiro can carry a sequel

If Scorsese, De Niro, and Wahlberg are all on board, then I'm for it.

Quite. It really sounds like a cash-in. Using Dignam as main character is just silly. He was funny but not interesting (as in his-character-would-make-a-good-lead.)

I do really want to see Scorsese working with DeNiro again.

I think Dignan would make a great lead

some people have zero faith that whalberg is a very good actor

but i think a cool story line is Whalberg goes rouge vigilante and takes down DeNiro, and the corrupted cops he has on his payroll or something

Wahlberg is a great actor, but like Carmine said, this prequel/sequel business sounds like a cash-in. We don't need unnecessary prequels/sequels.

that would be just a cop-movie with the title Departed slapped on.

No movie should have a sequel unless it is a continuation of the original's storyline. There's nothing left in the story to be told.

Wahlberg on The Departed Sequel and Prequel
Source: Empire Online
February 7, 2007

Empire Online talked to Oscar-nominated Mark Wahlberg about the possible The Departed sequel and prequel. "They told me they wanted to try to do it and I said, 'Well, I enjoyed playing the character'," he said.

One of director Martin Scorsese's old friends may be lining up to join the sequel: "They're talking about bringing in De Niro to play a senator or a congressman," added Wahlberg. "You know, the corruption obviously going deeper and higher up the ranks — reaching up the political chain. So it'll be fun. And if it's a success, they're gonna do a prequel and bring everyone back... make it a trilogy."

According to the actor, screenwriter William Monahan is currently hard at work writing the sequel, and shooting could begin sometime at "the beginning of next year or end of this year."

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I really liked THE DEPARTED. It's now become one of my favorite movies.

I'd be interested in the sequel/prequel stories, only if everyone would return for the prequel, including Scorsese.

at this momment, with this little tid bit of info we have, and nothing else to go on these aremy feelings on this

Departed sequel expanding on the themes of corruption with DeNiro as a senetor, and Whalberg is kind of a vigilante type role, that works for me, and I want to see that movie

Departed prequel, if they are planning on bringing everyone back, what would the story be? and that concerns me, cause i can't think of a logical scenario that Dicaprio's character fits into a prequel, so that worries me a bit

an idea for a prequel i would dig, is Nicholasons rize to power, vs possibley a young Queenan played by non other than Charlie Sheen lol

The Departed was a great movie, but I am not sure how to feel about this. While I don't think a sequel is really needed, if Scorsese does it, then it might turn out good.

The Departed Duo
Two sequels, two directors in mind?
by Stax

US, February 6, 2007 - Although it was recently reported that any development on The Departed 2 was on hold until producer-turned-Paramount chief Brad Grey's association with a sequel could be determined, it is now being reported that Warner Bros. has bigger plans than originally expected for the project.

Warner Bros. is said to want not one but two follow-ups to their hit 2006 thriller, which itself was a remake of the Hong Kong classic Infernal Affairs.

"(Screenwriter) William Monahan isn't just writing a second movie, he's also working on an outline for a third Departed film. What either movie will be about is still anyone's guess," according to CinemaBlend.com.

"We already know the second movie will not be a prequel but a continuation involving existing characters so it stands to reason that this probably applies to the third film as well. What our source was able to confirm is that the second script, the one Monahan is writing right now, is indeed about Mark Wahlberg's Digman as so many have already assumed."

The site adds that, should Martin Scorsese opt out of directing a Departed sequel, then the studio is considering either Michael Mann (Miami Vice) or Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) to replace him.

At least if Scorsese doesn't direct they are aiming high with his replacement

Holy ****!!!!!!!!! Michael ****ing Mann reuniting with deniro and making a mob movie. Bring it on.

DeNiro as a Senator?...bleuh...When is he gonna do something challenging again?
