A problem I'm having as a Girl Gamer...

It was a actual question. I didn't know if you were just assuming based on marketing or if it was based on the actual story, content, and features of the game.

I thought it was pretty well known how Saints Row the Third's writers tried to be "gender neutral while still being fun"
examples:
Gender equality
Opinion - Why Saints Row: The Third is Good for Women

I'm pretty sure the writer also discussed it on the giant bomb podcast as well as other places.

Edit: While I didn't play lollipop chainsaw I did find what the writer had to say here interesting: Lollipop Chainsaw's James Gunn talks sexiness and sexism

Yeah, but I don't see that really as 'gender equality' as a statement, more that they made a neutral character so people had an empty palatte to work with when making their own character... Which is why the main character was just a generic, bad ass cool dude.

Why does a female in a game so often have to be half naked?
I was just thinking about that while playing black ops 2 zombies. The girl has an uncovered stomach and tons of cleavage.

By the way, I see what some of you guys mean by feeling inadequate when looking at most male video game heroes. That's why I love the games where you play as just a normal guy. Like Alan wake, or lee in the walking dead game. Even max payne actually. They're relatable. And not big hulking handsome Macho men that I could never hope to look like. Lol

some of my favorite game protagonists from this gen were just regular normal guys like Nathan Jake, John Marsten and Cole from Infamous (well he starts off as such)

For the same reason that superheroines in comics have to dress like hookers and pornstars. Or that any magazine devoted to car culture has to feature a hottie in a bikini splayed across the hood.

It's a "guy thing." Action games are guy-oriented, and written by guys for guys.

I'm going over the games I have, mostly the Monster Hunter games I have been playing, and in a way those games are pretty much gender and racially respectful because you create your avatar the way you want to and you can customize him or her to your preferences. Choices of what you want to do are yours. The only really important thing about those games is the level of your own skills regardless of what gender or ethnicity your character is.

You are corect. It just annoys me. Im a straight guy, but id rather women be treated as people than just sex objects and eye candy
