Yeah same,I only actually purchase a few a year with most of being being replaced,I don't even rent no more and just get games I know I'm going to enjoy for a long time

I guess I would consider myself somewhere in the middle. I mean I definitely have periods throughout the year where I won't even touch my PS3 for weeks or months, but then there are times when I can't seem to get away from it. Plus I am definitely a trophy ****e and will commit hours and hours of gameplay for the recognition of meaningless accomplishments.

I would consider myself more towards the hardcore side just because I've been gaming for over 20 years, but at the same time, there are so many classic games on all of the consoles that I've never played and probably never will.

I'm casual, but I'd really like to play a lot more. Responsibilities and all...

So how long do you all think you'll continue gaming?,I'm 28 yo,so with me getting older and seeing myself as a casual gamer now this will probably be my last new generation..unless I ever have kids

I'm 24 and finally got my first job and earlier this year and the first thing I noticed was that my time for gaming dropped significantly. Part of it was because I got out of my job late and had to be asleep early, so my only free time was on the weekends, but since I had so many things to take care of, I really couldn't get into it consistently without feeling like I had wasted time, which is why it took me 3 weekends to finish GTA V.

I'm quitting soon and plan to take a month off which will include lots of gaming, but I can easily see myself falling away from gaming once I get a new job that I plan to stick with as a career, assuming that the hours are similar. For me, I can't play a game for an hour and then move on because gaming has always been a form of escapism for me and I need to get immersed in a game in order to enjoy it.

Same here, and with prices of consoles being high I don't think I could even afford one let alone getting the games.

I mean, I play for fun and all, but I'm not casual. Casual plays CoD all the time, and maybe Madden. I wouldn't say I'm hardcore in terms of getting all the trophies/achievements, playing on the hardest difficulty, leaderboards, but I buy a lot of games a year, I play through the storylines, get invested in the game, but I'm there to have fun overall.

Gaming doesn't have an age limit.

I think the industry has aged with the players, really.

I mean when I started, most games were obviously geared towards kids (or at the very least kid appropriate). And a lot of that was technological limitations, but you did have a few controversial ones out there even in the early days.

The average gamer is now thirty, and the most popular titles really reflect that. GTA, Halo, Call of Duty, etc.

I am curious to see what it will be like another twenty years from now.

Personally, I imagine I'll be gaming as long as I'll be watching movies, and reading books.

I guess it depends on your personal definition of what constitutes Casual and Hardcore, but I consider myself a casual gamer and I don't play COD, and I've never played Madden.

Yeah true but I just don't see myself still gaming over 10 years from now unless I have kids and age is just one factor,Although there is still a chance I may get pulled into the next generation like I'm now wanting the new consoles and game trailers will probably still get me curious.

Definitely casual
Only a few games push me to complete them 100%, or as near as I could do

When I was younger, I was considered hardcore haha. I'd ALWAYS play the original Xbox and N64 and to be honest still do. But I'd be somewhere in the middle. Currently, I'm still obsessing over: Bioshock: Infinite, GTA V, WWE 2K14, Batman: Arkham Origins, Mortal Kombat, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Killer Instinct etc. My favorite genre of games has always been the Fighting Games.

My gaming time has significantly dropped over the last year. With school taking over my life, having other interests, and the price of games, it's no wonder I'll go weeks without touching my PS3. When I do play it's strictly to have a good time.

I also felt that the casual gamer only played 1-3 games a year and or spent a majority of their time playing games on their smartphones.

Til either gaming or I die. If gaming dies I can just play catch up.

I'm 33 and see no point in stopping something that gives me that much enjoyment just because it isn't the cool thing to do.

This is one thing that I was always aware of, but really got illustrated to me after playing GTA Online -the amount of people who play a game for the sake of achievements, rankings, various other rewards (in-game money), rather than actually having fun. Each to their own of course, people can play video games for whatever reason they choose, it was just a little surprising (perhaps it shouldn't have been) the sheer amount of other gamers who referred, quite seriously, to their time playing as "work".

Ahh, then it's definitely down to personal definition. I play much more than that, but don't consider myself hardcore. Perhaps we need more than two levels, because I'm definitely somewhere in the middle. Casual Hardcore?

In terms of time and being broke as a student, I am a casual gamer. I have an earlier model of the 360 - the one without the built in WiFi-so in terms of DLC, I splurge on the GOTY edition, as it is a royal pain in the arse hooking up to Xbox Live with ethernet. I usually pick up somewhere from 3-5 games a year; two of them I pick up on release, and the other 2-3 I acquire on Black Friday or when the prices are randomly slashed on Amazon.
Next year, when I have a job, I will invest in a One, as well as picking up a Live subscription, as my spare time will not be taken over by homework.

I think the casual/hardcore reference is related to multiple aspects of gaming and many people fit both definitions for different aspects. I'm very much a casual gamer in terms of approach to multiplayer games and being competitive. I can have a great time on a multiplayer game without needing to do amazingly well as long as everyone is playing fair and not being a dick or giving out abuse. Although I do plan to one day get as good as I can possibly be at FIFA, all beat’em ups and a future Gears of War game (horde & MP). Battlefield and Halo to a lesser extent but I enjoy just being involved with those.

But in terms of exposure to gaming my plan at least is hardcore in terms of time commitment and financial expense. I plan to play and have at least bought nearly every half decent game in the last generation that's at least a year old (about 500 altogether) plus every console (some with multiple versions) and a dedicated gaming pc. It’s become my main entertainment hobby ahead of films, 100 miles ahead of TV shows and even ahead of reading which used to be my favourite.

I’m very much into achievements but I consider it again in a casual rather than hardcore way despite having a high score given how many years I’ve had Xbox live and having 100% on some very time consuming or difficult games. I'm not at all competitive and couldn't care less about someone else's achievements beyond seeing if we have common interest in games played. To me it's all just a way of increasing the amount of fun and utility I can get from a game and keeping the equivalent of a gaming diary with timestamps for different activities across many years and hopefully generations.

Is there a way to edit polls?,I'll add a new option for people in between
