Although i grew up in the 80's and saw a bit of Transformers, but not a lot, and I am really looking forward to the movie, BUT, I am wondering, did they have those PRE-Earth forms before?

The psuedo comet like ones that they seem to come to Earth in and are not like their post vehicle forms even their robot forms are different.

Was it like this before the movie?

Thanks

the Original Transformers did have cybertronian vehicle alternate modes, but they looked identicle in robot mode to they way they do on earth, which is silly.
they also did not come to earth in comets, but all together on a giant ship called The Ark, which crashed into a volcano on a prehistoric earth where they lied dormant for 4 million years. once the ship was reactivated by a volcanic eruption, the supercomputer that ran the ark rebuilt the transformers with earth vehicle alt modes. :trans:

Wow, that sounds so cool.

Considering the rumour about it starting with a frozen transformer being found in the arctic they might have something similar.

it's possible that the decepticons may have gotten to earth that way in the movie, but the autobots arrive in pods in the present day. i wish it was more like the toon origin, that was such a cool scifi idea. alas, it was not to be.

I would highly recommend that you check out the Beast Wars series on DVD if you haven't already :)

Awesome series and its great story/characters could help answer the questions you have regarding this particular subject :)

Plus it's a nice time filler until the movie comes next year.

Worth every penny :]

In the 80's their PRE-Earth form looked exactly the same as their Earth Forms. Which made no sense whatsoever. Bumblee would be a strange looking Cybertronian vehicle and retain his VW feet in robot form.

I don't know about all the other incarnations of Transformers on TV, but as far as I'm concerned they were shown in their PRE-Earth forms for the very first time in the Armada cartoon. Prime's PRE-Earth form looked alot like the G1 version before he chose a Longnose truck as his alt mode.

I would not put to much credit into that rumour...it's part of a plot to an old G1 season 1 episode called "fire in the sky" witch was the introduction of Sky Fire [Jetfire] being found frozen in the arctic by the Decpticon's.

it's in the script.

explorers find Megatron frozen in the arctic in the 1800's

I do like the fact that they look different in the film after they take on a vehicle mode than when they first arrive. Personally, I think the idea of them crashing here thousands of years ago in a huge ship is far less appealing than the concept of arriving randomly as space turds.

while i do like the origin my only concern would be why would Teletran one give the Decepticons alt modes instead of just rendering them inoperable

Wasn't Teletran one bust up too? I always thought it couldn't tell which bodies were autobots and which one were decepticons.

In the toon, doesn't it fire up when the volcano erupts and accidently reanimates a seeker (Skywarp?) He then goes about re-animating only the Decipticons.

I suppose they could have used that in the film...

Which script?I have personally seen about 7 of them at the Transformers convention's I've been to this year alone...and that's not counting the different script's from over the last few year's or the one's that have poped up at the different Transformers fan-website's.I'm not sure if your a fan of the G1 cartoon so here's a brief over view of the episode

The Decepticons are draining the earth energy through a crystal found in the artic. As that happens the earths temperatures change dramatically and the Autobots alerted by Telatran 1.While diging in the Ice the Decepticon's find the frozen body of Skyfire [Jetfire] in the ice then in flash back we learn more about Starscream and his past as we learn he was a scientist along with Skyfire [Jetfire] and they were the best of friends, and how together they discovered earth over 4 million years before and set out to reserach and exexplore it,however Skyfire [Jetfire] was lost in an artic storm.
When found Starscream start's Skyfire [Jetfire] working for the Deception's but by mid episode we see that he does'nt like working with the Decepticons and later becomes an Autobot after being shot by Starscreams.By the end of the episode Skyfire [Jetfire]risks his life and buries the crystal and himself inside an avalanche and is buried and believed to be lost but is rescued from the ice in a later episode.

Ahhh. The eco-tinged sci-fi stories of yore. What happened to that overriding theme of Transformers? To me, that was the heart of TF.

I bought the first 3 DVD sets (leading up to the movie) and I'm in love. It did bring back lots of memories, there were a number of episodes I missed when I was young so that was a bonus, but to watch the whole series in its entirety was bliss.

Same here. But if they keep up with the Masterpiece series my wife's understanding of me spending 100 bucks a pop might dwindle to an understood...meaning past tense.

HeHe - it's been a while since I've watched that episode but after reading this, I think I'm gonna go dig out the box set and watch it.
