A review from AICN

From the way it was described it sounded like a relatively quick and cheap scene. something that would look cleaner than the unfinished post-production shots of the dragon...

It's just a guess, a theory, a possibility... i'm not saying i know for certain, because i won't until the movie comes out.
like a FOX movie?

after elektra, fantastic four,x-men 3,..... and its going and going.looks like they wont do it.

on the other side: IMO i would from FOX expect a dragonball movie with a dragon and no monkey(oozaru). but from this review it looks like the monkey is in there and no dragon. i think its more freaky to have a gorilla then a dragon. since the title is DRAGONball. :o

again DRAGONball :whatever:

didn't he say it was like a baboon or something, not an ape? either way:

YES... like a Fox movie. BUT, we can always hope they've learned from the dismal response to the scenes with Galactus and the Sentinel, and will put the title image in there, in all it's splendor and glory...

ok, i'm just wishing out loud.
it's Fox. it'll be FUBAR.

no we can not. sorry that this sounds so bad. but we really can not.
lets use some logic here. let FOX ''FIRST'' make something that is very fithfull to the source material. let them first let a director finish hes movie and edit himself. let them first do this.
after that ....AFTER THAT when we will have evidence that they are trying better then we can have hope .

but now after Babylon a.d. and may payne they still havent learned.
andt FOX are lyed to the people on the internet to promote the movie so i wont belive anything untill i dont see it in the trailer and after watching the movie .

Apologies if this has been posted: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38877

I suppose it sounds better than I expected, but still not great. I don't understand what the deal is with Fox and things like Shenron, Galactus, and Sentinels. Do they seriously not understand that this is the kind of stuff people really want to see? And not just fans--the general audience, too. It's not even debatable. A Shenron appearance--a real appearance, handled by capable filmmakers, not this nerfed behind-the-clouds Shenron--would be something to behold. The potential for true artistry in such a scene would be staggering. Very disappointing. The DragonBall franchise is weak in many aspects--mainly storytelling ones--but can be incredibly strong visually, and it needs that advantage. Nerfing the visuals will not serve the film; they should be enhanced, not diluted.

Thanks Saint! This is exactly why I loathe Fox.

I will point out that this guy is reviewing an unfinished product. he even states that there are unfinished Special F/X, and no scoring...

So there's still some (not much, though) hope for us getting to Shenron.

But, here's what has me laughing my ass off...
Everyone is up in arms about the lack of a Shenron sighting... and yet no one is complaining about the fact that Goku will be changing into a 8-9 foot tall -BABOON-!!...

it's called "Great Ape Form" for a reason... because he's supposed to be like a 200ft tall APE!!! AAAAAAPE!!
not baboon.
Let's just call him "Rafiki" and give him a Bruce Lee scene, yeah?

OK... point conceded... But baboons are not GREAT apes. That would be like...
oooohh... i dunno...
maybe...
GORILLA!?

but, Saiyans don't look anything like -BABOONS- in G.A.F., is all i'm saying.

From what I know it is a cross between a monkey and werewolf so ya kinda like baboon.

AICN told me he is legit, but he's indeed a "plant"

Anyone who believes he's a plant, is a complete moron. This is just a fake review some kid made up or someone that got a very very very very rare chance at seeing a private screening of a film, which just doesn't happen unless this guy works with the studio or knows someone that works on the film.

i think the positives of this review totally out-weigh the negatives. as much as i'd love to see shenron in all his glory, i'm happy enough that we'll get to hear his voice. they can show him in a sequel, if they have one. i could actually care less about chichi. i'm happy with the review. i hope they touchup a few things and finish shooting whatever additional scenes they need to.

a disguise guy that the studio hires to review.... so he made have seen the film, but he isn't honest...

AH! So he's basically paid to blow smoke up our asses.
so either he's hyping it up to make it sound better than it is...
or he's getting paid to 'leak' misinformation...

well...
damn.

Rates it a 6.5, then says it would be a 9 if

1) Roshi was perverted
2) We saw the dragon

2.5 points for that? Something tells me not to trust his score....

i thought that was weird too. to me, the biggest negative is removing the perverted version of roshi. they basically completely changed his character, in my eyes

If he was a plant itd be more obvious, a Fox plant doesn't say

"Hopefully they will fix shenron as they still have 5 months to the movie's release but if not well then **** you fox and james wong"

Right, while we as fans want to see a perverted Roshi and seeing the actual dragon would be cool, it hardly effects the overall quality of the film. I would drop the score no more than half a point for what he said.

Plants usually gush about their movies like this: "I just saw Disaster Movie and it is truly a work of art that will be studied in film classes all over the world forever."

This dude seems to have seen it. We know that the movie was screened recently and is beginning licensing events. But something about the way he writes seems off to me... Who says there's nothing better than a well made geek movie with a straight face? It seems like this person needed to put effort into sounding like your average guy off the street who just happened to waltz into a dragonball screening.

After careful consideration of all the evidence, my verdict: PLANT.

I hate when companies do this. It just makes them look sleazy and dishonest, but that's really to be expected. So no big deal. I feel slightly betrayed is all.

so the debate isn't whether or not he's seen the movie...
it's whether or not he's sincere in his words...

wasn't there an interview with Chow Yun Fat where he said he enjoyed playing a perverse character like Roshi?

Maybe he's still perverted... just not uber-dirty old man perverted...?

and damnit. i wanna see the dragon, and a giant monkey.
and vegeta.
but i can wait until the next movie for the Prince of Saiyans.

If he was a plant he would have been so negative he wouldnt have said Mai was useless, Jamie Chung played a bad a part as Jessica Alba in Fantastic Four another Fox movie. And he definitely wouldn't have said the Dragon was hidden like the Sentinal or Galactus 2 things Fans hate about there respective films.

However the swearing, bad grammer etc is fishy.

don't expect a smart, well-educated, well-organized, mature, Rotten Tomato review from a site like AICN....

They are mostly known for fan boy reviews, and a lot of their reviews contain swearing, bad grammer...etc....
