Simple question: are DCU superheroes worth the trouble?

From both a global and a localised standpoint, is Everyday Joe better off with or without capes flowing above?

yes people would be better of without metahumans in general. Their are way to man superheros and villians running around.

Would you live in a town with superheroes?

Well, without DC superheroes, DC Earth by now would have been variously

1. ruled by Lex Luthor

2. ruled as a slave-planet under Darkseid's galactic hell-empire

3. eaten by Mageddon

or any number of other fates too horrible to contemplate. So on balance I'm gonna say, yes, the average denizen of the DCU is probably better off with Superman running around stickin' his nose in things, than he is being ruled by a maniacal supergenius death-god shortly before being wiped out of existence.

There is one constant in this universe, and that is evil. Evil takes many forms, but if there are none who would combat this evil, our existence is doomed. So no, I don't think we'd be better off without superheroes, they fight for the little man and the everyday Joe. While the politicans and beauracrats, the ones in a position to make a difference spend their time bickering on whether or not some President who was out ofoffice 7 years ago did enough to stop an attack on our soil during the reign of another. Superheroes are out there fighting the good fight and not having to deal with all the red tape is a most reassuring thing. They get the job done and keep people safe, why wouldnt you want that in a world where more police departments are more focused on how to continue their corruption and make a quick buck and and not on the safety and health of those they swore to protect and serve.

Really, if it weren't for the metahumans (good and bad), there wouldn't even be a universe, since the Anti-Monitor would've wiped them all out.

So are you saying that it´s GOOD to have superheores around and that in the end a city only has to GAIN with their presence?

Yes, whats so hard to understand about that?

Why dont you just try to make whatever point youre trying to make.

Well, the DCU denizens seem to want their heroes. We already saw how they were trying to locate the missing space heroes. It wasn't the JLA looking for them, it was people from the DCU. The question has been answered in canon.

So why Batman doesn´t want them in Gotham?

Because Batman is a psychotic control freak. And that has nothing to do with the regular people of the DCU.

You´re misinterpreting.

If DCU cities only have to GAIN from having superheroes around and in the end the pros far outweight the cons, why Batman doesn´t allow them in Gotham to help him protect Average Joe?

Because he's Batman?

More along the lines of this discussion its kind of ironic though that many of the villains in comics have some connection with the hero be it that they created them or inspired them to do evil. I mean even with batman or superman around saving lives their very existance is what drives men like luthor and the joker to kill.

Because hes a psychotic control freak.

No, I'm not misinterpreting; you're the one that's changing the perspective from what you stated at the start of this thread. Furthermore, you're assuming that Batman is correct in keeping metas out when it's just as likely that Gotham would be a better place if it had metas protecting it and Batman is WRONG.

C'mon if what you really want to say is that metaheroes bring metavillains, then do so. But I'll then use your own Batman argument to illustrate that not having metaheroes in your city doesn't exclude the fact that you WILL have metavillains in it.

I think you´re reading too much into this.

All I am doing is posing a question.
Are superheores worth the trouble?
Do the pros of having a cape around outweight the cons?

Is Bat right or wrong in keeping metas out of Gotham?

I think that the argument is a little false. The idea is that Supervillians arise to fight Superheros. Crime exists regaurdless of weather their is a police force to fight it.

Superheroes came to be because of crime, not the other way around.

So SHOULD there be metas in Gotham to help Batman fight crime?

Really? This is what you asked in your first post...

Yes.

Of course!

He's wrong. And he doesn't even kick out metas exclusively, he kicks out other people. He kicked out the whole Birds of Prey team, he didn't just kick out Dinah; he kicked them ALL out, he kicked the wheel-chair bound daughter of one of the men he respects most out of Gotham. BTW, you added this question later which is what makes us supect that you have an ulterior motive.;):D

I have to confess I do have an ulterior motive.

i want to prove that Bat´s wrong in keeping metas out but that´s an invitation for Batfans to jump on my neck
