ABC's "No Ordinary Family"

I really liked the second episode like someone said having limits on their powers was a very good touch. The mom with superspeed having a supercrash and needing GPS to travel over long distances is something I've never seen before in superhero genre ever. I don't know about the cop yet either dead or not but either way I think it opens up all kinds of possiblities moving forward.

Are the Motion Comics actually a tie-in to the series? Because, if so, then the Watcher will most likely be capturing Daphne and JJ sometime.

Did they really just kill off the hot cop? I thought she would stick around for a while. I feel sorry for JJ and his crap teacher. He seems to really have it in for him just because he wasn't the brightest student before. I just realized why the kid looks so familiar though. He played the young James T. Kirk in Star Trek!

Not that it was the reason for her demise, but it does solve the problem created by Jim's confession to her. BTW her ID of Jim at the crime scene and Jim's wife admonishing him with......"What if somebody sees(recognizes) you?" is the super-hero requisite for a disguise...Hmmmmmm?

Geek discussion material.......Jim can leap 1/4 of a mile, but how fast does he cover that distance?

BTW - we can now confirm accelerated healing for Mrs. Powell. Though I'm sure it will be limited, and won't come near Wolverine or Claire levels. She can simply heal from what normal humans can heal from, just at a faster rate. Though then again, super-healing might explain why she doesn't age faster.

I really like how they opened up the show's universe so quickly, on first glance you'd think the show would purely be about the family's trials and tribulations dealing with powers but it's surprisingly much more.

It seemed like they were setting her up to be somewhat of the Jim Gordon type, though more hostile. If she is dead, it ain't that much of a loss. The wife's assistant and Romany Malco already know about their existence, so not every single civilian needs to know what's up.

^That's what I was thinking too. I thought she would later come to realize that they need Jim to battle others with powers and she would become the liason between the Police Department and Jim. Oh well. It was only the second episode anyway so we weren't that much invested in her.

Did the pilot that aired on TV feature scenes not in the online pilot?

That girl detective seemed like a ***** from the start. When chiklis said "hey amy" or whatever her name was and she just gave him that look. Then he said "sorry, detective cho."

I like it. It's growing on me pretty quickly. I wasn't bowled over the by the pilot, I was kinda like "Well, it's better than nothing." But the second ep is slowly reeling me in. I feel like the show has a lightness to it that Heroes didn't have. It's the Fantastic Four to Heroes' X-Men, and that makes it easier to enjoy without scrutinizing. Why didn't Steph's injuries speed heal before we got to see them? Who really cares, it's not that serious.

Detective Cho was one of my favorite characters, believe it or not. Seeing her get killed, and going out like a damsel in distress was a little bit off putting. It seems that our new TK bad guy also hands out the idiot ball like Sylar did. That said, I respected the thought they put into it of having him shoot her with her own gun, no odd questions about sourceless neck-snapping.

I fear for the kids. Daphne especially. JJ's Super-intelligence almost writes itself. Today it's math homework, tomorrow it's super computers, in the season finale it's advancing his mother's research. No problems. I'm not... 'sold' on the high school drama, not by a long shot. It'll take a sure loving hand to make those characters appealing. But who knows, maybe kids are loving those characters.

All in all, it's growing on me, I don't actually *like* any of the main characters, and am a bit displeased with how they responded to pilot testing (Julie Benz is hot? Take off her clothes, no one likes the Detective? Kill her off) trumping story, but, hey, that's the business.

I guess I have a lot to say about it, but the most important thing is: keep up the good work.

I like the show, but I worry that story wise if it will become like Heroes where it runs out of steam after the first season.

**BTW, note to mods, I think this series deserves is own thread under the main of TV Series because of it's superhero theme.

I can't believe people are already claiming that this is better than Heroes. Heroes season 1 was almost perfect. This is show is 2 episodes in.

But i do like it, i just don't really connect with the main characters yet. I think Jim and the mom are the most likeable characters. I'm glad the daughter got over her "i'm a freak" issues. I don't know why JJ can't just tell his parents he's got super thinking powers. Even if it is a power, it still makes him a genius and what kind of parent wouldn't be proud of that?

I'm 50/50 on the villains. The telekinetic guy seems powerful and i have always said that telekinesis is the best power to have. I just hope he has a good backstory and motivation. People need to stop comparing him to to Sylar because Sylar was a relatable villain with a good backstory (at least in season 1) We don't know anything about this guy yet.

Personally, I never got understood why people loved Heroes so much. Even season 1.

BTW, I just thought of something: It was quite subtle, but I think we saw a practical demonstration of JJ's super-thinking. He was able to win the ring-toss easily.

It was implied that he was able to do so, since he was able to calculate trajectories/gravity/whatever else you need to figure. The fact that he was able to translate all this to a muscular action is just a bit significant, methinks.

Same here.

I'm glad the daughter got over her "i'm a freak" issues. I don't know why JJ can't just tell his parents he's got super thinking powers. Even if it is a power, it still makes him a genius and what kind of parent wouldn't be proud of that?

Idem. I have a "hard time" with teen issue in TV/shows movies and I am glad that the girl issue was quickly resolved.
JJ wanted his parents to be proud of him by his own merit not the help of a super power that is why he hides it to his parent.

Im really digging this show so far. They've brought in some mysterious elements i really like, and was that Callum Blue playing the telekinetic guy???
