ABC's "No Ordinary Family"

I watched the first 2 episodes online @ ABC's site and this show has already done what Smallville hasn't done in 10 seasons! (Never watched Heroes.) It was funny, serious, & dramatic all at the same time while being entertaining. I thought the teenage girl's telepathy was going to be one of those cringe-inducing season-long melodramas but was relieved to see that it got sorted out already. Definitely like the mom the most, because she's kinda hot.

I got X-Men 2 Nightcrawler deja vu from the teleport effects in that underground garage fight, geez talk about being unoriginal (or lazy, or both). Also the "telekinetic" bad guy, uh are we sure that he's actually telekinetic or is it just over metal objects like Magneto? Because his hold on the female cop reminded me a lot of the same type of scene in X-Men 2 (where Magneto suspends the security guard) and the gun thing was a lot like that one scene from X1 where Magneto catches all of the cops' guns and points them back at them.

Also the female cop is most likely dead, not sure why folks would be thinking otherwise. Just because it wasn't on-screen doesn't mean she's not - prime-time TV censors, anyone?

So far the show has been a fun slice of light entertainment, I like both Chiklis and Benz so hopefully it continues to do well.

Agreed. Its not high art, but it doesn't need to be. Its dumb fun and I'm enjoying it.

BTW, I just thought of something: It was quite subtle, but I think we saw a practical demonstration of JJ's super-thinking. He was able to win the ring-toss easily.

It was implied that he was able to do so, since he was able to calculate trajectories/gravity/whatever else you need to figure. The fact that he was able to translate all this to a muscular action is just a bit significant, methinks.

Exactly^ what I was thinking if anyone has read the avengers academy there is a girl there who is a Polymath called Finesse she can master just about any skill through knowledge, become a pool shark, championship rider archer etc all with how her mind works. Actually was pretty awesome in the second issue when they where showing the applications.

I don't think they thought it through that far. Just like Stephs road rash didn't superheal until she took off her clothes, or Jim didn't rip the bumper off the van. I don't think he's transferring anything as much as he can see the parabola in front of him and match it just like you or I would. It may take him a couple tries, y'know?

Taskmaster doesn't do things he hasn't seen before, JJ does. JJ is a Super genius. That's all. Even at the ring toss, he didn't copy anyone, he just did the math, like River from Firefly.

Okay ... how the **** is that robber alive ? Hell, what the hell is he doing walking out of the police station with his lawyer with just a scratch on the face ? His lawyer should be at his bedside in the hospital as doc tell him he's ****ed for life.

I wouldn't question a piece of fiction where people are running about with superpowers. It's not that big of a deal....

So the police woman's murder gets a casual mention? It was THE gripping scene in the second episode, and it's brushed aside in the third? Not good storytelling.

This episode was a set back. The first wedding was an opportunity for the family to realize they can operate as a super-powered team! Which they should be going for, get some action on, that's the main attraction of super-heroes! Get creative with their powers! You can still have ordinary life issues crop up without hitting us over the head with angst!

Jim is now bullett-proof....I like that, but he can only jump 1/4 of a mile, no more or even more importantly ....no less! Practice makes perfect.

Yeah it may be fiction but still, the guy he threw off the roof was a regular guy and a regular guy falling like 15 STORIES high would NOT survive that fall. Hell at the very least, they could've put him in a wheelchair.

Not survive in our world where these laws apply. Fortunately such laws aren't in storytelling. If you wanna see someone fall of a building and land on a car realistically... well i'm sure you have friends

I've always wondered how any superpowered person can punch a normal human in the head, and not have the head pop completely off, or at least disjoint the neck. It'd be different if they emphasize the "super" holding back, but everytime in most shows, they show the "super" doing a full and involved swing. I mean, normal (albeit stronger for normal) humans can break each others' jaws, at the very least.
