Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Movie in the Works

Source:Dead line

That was fast! Author Seth Grahame-Smith's follow-up to his successful Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has already been optioned for a movie version. Deadline reports that Tim Burton has teamed with Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov to produce a movie version of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which was released today to book stores. Burton, Bekmambetov and Jim Lemley produced Focus Features' 9 together as well.

Lionsgate has picked up the movie version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, with Natalie Portman attached to star and David O. Russell circling as director.

Check out a teaser trailer for the novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter at our previous news post right here.

The following is how publisher Grand Central Publishing describes "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter":

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness."

"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.

Does this mean the South leaders are gonna be blood sucking vermin which now is more or less red rep states. Even though Abe was Rep himself.

Good question. The book was released two days ago and I gave it a quick glance and I liked what I saw.

And please, for all of those who have read the book, please use spoiler tags. Thanks.

The book just came out and its already being made into a movie?

Yep. The author released a similar book: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Apparently it's had a good reception. There are also plans for a movie of PPZ. Natalie Portman will lead.

Yeah, I know about the other one. Whats with the guy and the weird subject matter. People don't normally think Abe Lincoln and vampires or Pride and Prejudice and zombies.

What next George Washington and Werewolves?:o:oldrazz:

Maybe Liam Neeson will play Abe in this since it's doubtful he'll ever play Abe under Spielberg.

Ha! I read somewhere that Ben Franklin will somehow get his shot at the Frankenstein monster.

I wanted Spielberg to do the Abe bio pic but I agree, I don't think it'll happen. Nesson as Abe would be awesome.

I think Washington should be a Demon Slayer or Werewolf killer. It be cool to see George cutting down a Cherry tree then killing some Werewolf as a boy with his ax. Also seeing Washington true reason why has wooded teeth

Sounds awesome. Anyone see the trailer to the book? Abe with an axe fighting vampires. I mean if you don't think that's awesome, something is wrong with you.

Ha! believe it or not, there's a demon hunter already and SHE is: Queen Victoria.

Hot on the heels of this news item focusing on "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," comes A.E. Moorat's "Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter" (on sale January 26).

Synopsis: London, 1838. Queen Victoria is crowned; she receives the orb, the scepter, and an arsenal of bloodstained weaponry. If Britain is about to become the greatest power of the age, there’s the small matter of the undead to take care of first. Demons stalk the crown, and political ambitions have unleashed ravening hordes of zombies even within the nobility itself.

But rather than dreams of demon hunting, Queen Victoria's thoughts are occupied by Prince Albert. Can she dedicate her life to saving her country when her heart belongs elsewhere? With lashings of glistening entrails, decapitations, zombies, and foul demons, this masterly new portrait will give a fresh understanding of a remarkable woman, a legendary monarch, and quite possibly the best demon hunter the world has ever seen.

I loved the trailer. It was very well made.

I'm glad to see Tim Burton is doing something like this! I'm getting a Sleepy Hollow feeling form this!

This gimmick is starting to wear old on me...

Next thing you know, some studio will be working on a big-budget remake of Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter...

It depends how well done it is. We haven't even seen the Pride and Prejedice zombie on yet. Let's give them a chance before we dismess them as gimmicks. You have to argree it's better than the constant streak of remakes and reboots these days.

I would rather have an adaptation of a book or video game than a reboot or remake of something.

None of the movies have been released yet. . . . .

I agree.

I guess this movie is what happens when a "writer" smokes a bowl while the History Channel is on.

My moneys says Depp will play the Vampire Booth or lead Vampire against Lincoln.

Christian Bale needs to play a vampire like yesterday. Christopher Walken too.

Hmmm...did I just cast this movie?! :D

tim burtons too lazy to direct something original and ballsey like this lol

Johnny Depp wasn't involved with 9, which Burton also produced. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if he wasn't in this movie.
