Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Movie in the Works

Finally saw the movie, it wasn't spectacular but I still enjoyed it.

This was one of the worst movies I have seen in a long while. I went in expecting it to be bad (but entertaining enough), yet they somehow managed to lower the bar and get under it. It was just a complete and utter mess of a film with almost no redeemable qualities.

Instead of being 'so bad it's good' like what it should have been, it was strangely boring and tedious.

Lots of fun and enjoyable i should say, the book is better i should say.

Even though we're getting Spielbergo and DDL's Lincoln later this year, I have to commend Walker for playing old Lincoln completely straight, with the vocal inflections and everything well into his 50s. The makeup needed a little touch up, but he played old Lincoln very well.

My bad if already posted.

Haven't seen the movie yet but I was flipping through the premiums and the actors were showing some clips on Cinemax. The visuals looked terrible and tremendously fake. And not in like a good, artsy visual type of way like say 300 or Sin City. It all looked 100% CG animated.

A missed opportunity.

This film was begging for some old fashioned film making - with lots of attention to details, building tension, old style FX and atmosphere.

Instead we got a anti-gravity, super strength axe twirling, jumping and spinning action flick.

^ I'm sick to death of this trend of film making.

The mere idea of this story is just insulting and irritating. I am upset at the author of this book, and Hollywood for making it a movie. I blame this trend of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and AB and Vampires on Stephanie Myers and Twilight.

Is this film comparable to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

I mean that was bad too, but entertaining

Actually the same writer wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and another Jane Austen riff called Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. He also did a take on the nativity scene with baby Jesus and the three wise men/kings called Unholy Night.

I have a feeling though Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter might certainly cause the other ones that had movie deals to stall if not directly die in development hell.

For whatever reason, executives were snatching up all this guy's materials because I guess it was hot at the time doesn't mean it works as movies though.

I'm guessing it's because it didn't do so well at the B.O. :o :

It's only been 3 weeks since Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter began axe-chopping Confederate bloodsuckers at the box office, but we have to wait just 2 months before our 16th President emancipates our Union from the undead on DVD/Blu-ray.

Blu-ray.com just announced that 20th Century Fox will be rushing the Tim Burton-produced, Timur Bekmambetov-directed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to DVD and Blu-ray as early as September 18th. No specific details, artwork, word of a 3D Blu-ray, or anything else regarding the release has been revealed yet other than the Blu-ray will also include both a digital and basic DVD copy.

We'll have more details when they become available.

I don't care, it may garner a cult hit, like most of them do via home viewing.

Well, this was disappointing. The action was fairly creative, but with the exception of Walker's facial features and occasional good acting, almost everything else, especially the pacing and the general execution and tone of the film...were pretty subpar. That final train fight/disaster sequence starts off as an interesting concept, and ends up being almost laughably bad. I keep hearing how the book is much better, but given that the writer of the book wrote the script for this film, I've got no desire to read the book now.

I liked it myself. Not great, definitely, but something I'd enjoy watching again.

The direction was definitely the weakest part of the film. Despite a pretty talented cast, the director definitely did lack the ability to convey proper tension, pacing and emotional investment to the audience. Plus the action scenes were odd. They worked in a laughably over the top kind of way, but set against the extremely somber tone of the rest of the film, they were kind of jarring; like they couldn't decide what kind of parody to make; subdued and tongue in cheek, or outrageous and over the top.

What annoyed me about the movie is that it made up it's own rules as it went along and the gladly threw them out of the window.

How do you mean?

I'm not disagreeing, just curious!

When I first went to see the movie called ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER.....I didn't expect any rules and really didn't care if it adhered to any.....I was going to see a kick ass Abe "freakin" Lincoln Kung Fuing vampires with his rail splitting axe.

And that's what I got.

Dominic Coopers character states that vampires can't kill other vampires but at the end he offers to turn Abraham into one.

Vampires have super human strength and speed yet a lot of ordinary humans were able to go toe-to-toe with them.

I guess once he turned Abraham into a vampire, Abe wouldn't have been able to kill vampires anymore...it is a little odd!

Abe was able to go toe to toe because of that hate-technique Henry taught him...but I don't know about everyone else! You're certainly not wrong there.

Dah well, I still love it! :woot:

He offered to turn Lincoln, because Lincoln then wouldn't be able to hurt him because a vampire can't hurt its maker. He could also make Lincoln do whatever he wanted. Least that is what I guessed.
