I have lots of questions about accents, which will be the subject of this thread, hence the title which suggest accents will be involved in some way, which in fact is the way in which I have already indicated.:)

Actually, it isn't entirely accurate. I had many questions about accents, but I've since forgotten them since i was too lazy to make a thread asking them in hopes of getting responses that provide true answers. :csad:

However, I do remember one, which I thought about while I was on the bus earlier:

how come most British people lose their accents when they sing?

also, to those of you who aren't American: do you read American characters with American accents, or native ones?

Thank you for taking the time out to read this thread. i only wish I could've come up with a more clever title.:cmad: :word:

Didn't one of the Beatles say that singing with a British accent is almost incomprehensible?

If he did,he was spot on. The other day I heard those McFly people singing Little Saint Nick in the heaviest British accent ever.

Christ it was scary. :(

I heard it has something to do with the way the vocal cords work when a person sings. But I heard that a long time ago and I don't recall the details.

That's true...You don't usually hear it. Although there are some bands I've heard a little bit of it on certain words.

*Ponders*

I almost forgot I made this thread. Thanks for all the support.:cmad:

What do Americans speaking Chinese sound like to Chinese people?
Is the accent as goofy?

I don't think it has anything to do with comprehension. When one sings, there is no accent, there is only melody. The only discerning difference is the way some words are pronounced such as 'can't' or 'dance'. On that note, I have heard some English songs employing the pronunciation of British English of certain words and they work just fine.

Americans make fun of other languages (like Chinese...ching chong chang). How do Chinese make fun of english? Do they all think we still talk like John Wayne?

you know. not all Brits lose their accent when they sing.
just look at Phil Collins... :o

I prefer the Brit accent. It's the original English as how it should be spoken. ;)

Well I heard that originally, they talked like we do now (without "accents"), but since we broke off from England, they tried seperating themselves from us accent-wise and adopted the higher class Cambridge form or something like that...

Strong accents of any kind are pretty bad...

blended accents are usually the best, i love hearing people talk although an american accent for long periods of time tends to bore me...

you guys seem way to eager about things when you talk.

ha...

Whever I am, I pick up the accent within days. When we moved to England, I had an english accent by the time I started school [about six weeks]. When I moved to Plymouth, I picked up the devonshire accent by the time I got a job [four days]. We watch an american film, I've already got hints of accents running about.

Everyone in college is wondering what I'm gonna sound like after two weeks in Canada.

First of all Britain has a million and one different accents just like America does. Just like someone in Queens New York doesn't sound like someone from Alabama, Someone from London doesn't sound like some from Liverpool.

Only a hand full of British people speak in High Class Cambridge accents. The average person you meet in Britain doesn't sound like that. Its only in your Holllywood movies that everyone talks like that.

The English language and accents are always changing. How people speak and use words from 100 years ago is different to how people speak now.
In london the tradional cockney accent is dieing out. Most young people speak in jamacianized english as influenced by immigation over the last 50 years.

Lots of British bands in the past most likely sing in American accents as the music they growed up was by american singers and bands. The Beatles and Rolling Stones listened to Chuck Berry and Little Richard so tried to sound like them.
Some American bands like The Killers Sing in British accents.

Not all bands and singers do sing in american accents. Its more noticeable to you guys because the bands that make it big in the states may sing that way.

I can give some likes to British bands music viedos that do sing in their own regional accent.

Actually...Americans speak English more closely similar to what English people spoke 300 years ago than what Brits do today!
Similarly, Icelanders speak a language more closely similar to what vikings spoke moreso than any other Scandinavian.

You're kidding, right? I have never met ANYONE with a Cambridge accent. Around here, the marines would throw 'em off the harbour and piss on em. You don't wanna go sounding like that anywhere in this country really, unless you live on a manor in the country.

I wish more English people did speak with an upper class tone, I'm so sick of every teenager talking like "Knaaa wha Ah meen, yeh blud innit."

...? What does that mean?
Try singing with a Russian accent, you sound like you got sponge cake in your mouth.
