Maybe this is just me, but I was curious if anyone else felt the same way. Are there any actors (or even directors) in the film industry that you can't stand when someone really likes them or suggests they should be in every movie?

2 examples instantly come to mind for me.

1) I think he is a good actor, but Michael Fassbender. It's not that I have any problem with him, but no matter what role is out there, people think he is perfect. "Oh, they are making a movie about the Hamburgler? Fassbender really fits that part."

2) Johnny Depp. I guess I just don't like anything about him. Anytime a Batman movie is discussed, some random person in my life who I don't even think knows a thing about Batman will somehow tell me Johnny Depp is a perfect Riddler. Then I puke.

How about you?

OMG, they're making a biopic about Johnny Depp? Michael Fassbender would be perfect for that!

Most tv actors.

So crappy , yet always suggested by fans who eat their work on a weekly basis and get attached to them.

Johnny ****ing Depp, that man has worn out his very large ****ing welcome.

Oh and Sam Worthington.

Channing Tatum.

Personally speaking, I have no problem with the guy; my friend's girlfriend is rabidly obsessed with him, which fuels my dislike of the celluloid and public image Channing Tatum, that has yet to thaw me over with a performance.

There are a few directors and actors right now in the cycle that a lot of people feel can do no wrong, and I think therein lies some of the problem.

Do lots of people really like Sam Worthington? Can they remember enough about him after a film to recommend his performance? (Not counting Macbeth and Somersault, which he was quite good in.)

Channing Tatum

From his looks to his acting skills they all seem hollow and ordinary and yet ever since 21 Jump Street people seem to be ridding him hard...

When people were suggesting actors for the Riddler, every third or so choice was David Tennant. I have nothing against him and I am not having a go at Dr Who, but that is so fraking random. The actors in Nolan's movies like Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway, Heath Ledger, etc. are all actors on top of the Hollywood list. Actors that the top actors and directors wants to work with with awards and nominations, and like everybody's favorite choice was the lead from Dr Who. That was kind of annoying.

I used to feel the same way about Johnny Depp. Especially his earlier work, with the exception of A Nightmare On Elm Street. I think part of it was the attitude he developed once he hit superstardom with 21 Jump Street. I hear he was a total d**k back then. I also have a severe dislike of "prettyboy actors" who I feel tend to get their roles more on the basis of their looks than due to any actual acting talent. Earlier in his career I would have included Johnny Depp in this group. However he has won me over with his performance in Sleepy Hollow (which I watched mostly because I love the story of The Headless Horseman, it's my favourite ghost story). Ever since then I have stopped avoiding his movies. I don't go out of my way to see them, but the fact that they star Johnny Depp won't turn me off of them either.

I had a similar opinion of Brad Pitt, until I saw his performance in The Devil's Own. Now I kinda like him.

One "prettyboy actor" that I cannot stand, that everyone else seems to love, and ithat has yet to redeem himself in my eyes, is Leonardo Dicaprio. Highly over rated as an actor, IMO, has those impossibly good looks that just make you want to pound on him 'til he ain't so pretty no more, plus some intangible quality that just makes me dislike him anyway. Like that one performer that has "It", that intangible quality that makes them so damn good at what they do. He has a similar quality that just makes me want to throttle him.

Because its so annoying to think of talented actors outside of the usual Hollywood echochamber?

I don't find it annoying but I find Henry Cavill suddenly being suggested for almost every single role now hilarious. It's the classic example of an actor being suggested for everything after starring in a superhero (or any huge) movie regardless of whether he fits the role or not.

To be honest I find pretty much all such discussion to be pointless.

Its ok for somebody to suggest an actor that is very far down on the list, its even ok if everybody does it. But when almost everyone picks the same guy, thats when its weird. Like if every 3rd or 4th person here would call Ferris Bueller's Day Off, their favorite movie.

Johnny Depp has worn out his welcome for me. I'm so tired of his shtick.

Paul Giamatti.

Never seen this guy in a half decent movie, let alone a good one. When I have seen him in something, he just shouts.

I'm sure there are more, but he's the first that came to mind.

Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider are like nails on a chalkboard. It's a little beyond me who would pay to see their movies.

I've never been able to figure out why, but I've never liked Guy Pearce.

Do people really suggest Rogen or Sandler for things though?

Yeah I really hope Depp can turn things around with what seems like a more serious role with Transcendence.

Andrew Garfield
Anne Hathaway

Really? I haven't noticed anyone suggesting him for anything really.

Ryan Gosling isn't as God-like as some would like to make you think. He's not that great looking either. :o

Bryan Cranston.

I am quite tired of hearing/reading him fan-cast for everything.
