Actors that annoy you that other people like/suggest?

Ryan Gosling he's suggested for every role imaginble around here.

i am sorry but i hate this phrase on the hype it is the equivalent of this

it is an excuse to fan cast mediocre actors

No I just mean does a person have to be standardly Oscar worthy in order to play that role? There are different brands of acting and a number of different ways of writing Batman. If written correctly actors like Armie Hammer can do just fine as Batman. Its not looking down on the material but rather wishing super hero films could aim for Die Hard and succeed rather than aim for Heat and fall short.

Is anyone throwing around Chris Evans name for Oscars? No. But that doesn't mean he doesn't do great work as Captain America. Such a role just requires a different kind of performance than Daniel Day Lewis being Lincoln. But the latter seems to be what people wish for a lot of the times.

Jonah Hill.

I'm no Jonah Hill fan, but you missed the point of the thread. I have never heard him being suggested for anything.

A lot of people like Rebel Wilson.

I am not one of those people.

There's another word before the slash. Someone, somewhere likes this guy.

Antje trau or whatever her name is from man of steel. I mean she was alright in that but not good enough to play every super heroine ever!

Ryan Renolds and Depp were the first two I thought of

Do. Not. Get.

The only 'next' thing Armie Hammer should be is the next Judge Reinhold.

LMAO!!!!! That's hilarious. He DOES look like a 'roided up Judge Reinhold.

Quick, someone cast Armie Hammer and that kid who plays Carl on the Walking Dead in a remake of Vice Versa!

Yeah, like another poster already said, this isn't just about actors people suggest for various roles. It's also about actors who are liked/praised. For whatever reason, some of Hill's roles have received a ton of critical acclaim.

Two other actors I can't stand & simply don't find their acting credible are Ashton Kutcher & Justin Timberlake. :down Neither could act their way out of a paper bag.

Anne Hathaway
Ryan Gosling
Jennifer Lawrence
Luke Evans
Johnny Depp
Benedict Cumberbatch
David Tennant
Christian Bale
Armie Hammer
Nathan Fillion
Kaya Scodelario

I don't dislike them (Well, I dislike a few) but I am sick of seeing them fancast for every role going.

Oh God.... And Chloe Moretz. Ugh.

We seem to be on the same page with this stuff. I can't stand either one of them as well.

OMG agreed wholeheartedly.

Most tv actors.

So crappy , yet always suggested by fans who eat their work on a weekly basis and get attached to them.

I'm not the type that gets overly attached to TV actors if I really like the character/s they play, but I wouldn't consider most of them necessarily crappy. Some you can tell right off the bat can't act, but a lot of them I think are pretty good.

Also, when you watch enough television and enough movies, TV acting has it's own style not seen or used in movies much like how they film them as well. I have a hard time explaining this in detail to friends, but it's incredibly noticeable, and I'm not talking about silly sitcoms like 'Friends'.

oh, okay. I thought it was about actors that regular people like, not critics.

There are plenty of TV actors who are just as good as anyone else. I don't really get this snobbery toward "television people".

I'm glad you guys agree. I mean seriously, Timberlake should just stick to music & Kutcher should just fade away into obscurity.

Kutcher is a one-note "actor" (if even that), and a moron with the eternal mind of an 18 year old college frat boy (and even an immature frat boy), but I think Timberlake is a decent actor.

I agree.
I have one name for people who think TV actors all have less talent than big movie stars...Tom Hanks. Started out on a silly sitcom(Bousom Buddies)...look at him now.

It doesn't matter the role or character he's playing, Kutcher always seems like Kelso to me. I can't get past that.

Johnny Depp is definitely one. It always irritates me when he is suggested for every role, it doesn't even matter if he fits or not. Just like the suggestion for the Freddie Mercury biopic recently.
But I was never impressed with his acting, not even back then when he was considered arty and daring and all that stuff. He is not THAT great and chameleon-like IMO and a bit limited and superficial. I always think about him as the lesser Gary Oldman, or Gary Oldman for kids.

Haha, so true! :woot:

Yeah. It's embarrassing that Timberlake gets a damned Emmy nom every year for hosting SNL. Considering how many great shows are on TV now and how many of them have had outstanding performances by guest stars, I can't believe they actually think that Timberlake showing up for a week and acting like his usual *****ey self is somehow better.

As for Kutcher... I wish I could be interested in that Steve Jobs movie, but I just can't because Kutcher is playing him. I doubt that Kutcher's performance, even if it's not his usual "smile a lot and look confused" routine, will even come close to Noah Wyle's performance as Jobs in The Pirates of Silicon Valley (a TV movie, but probably a better film than this one).

Christian Bale
Paul Giamatti
Chalize Theron

Nathan Fillion, basically

I used to feel the same way about Johnny Depp. Especially his earlier work, with the exception of A Nightmare On Elm Street. I think part of it was the attitude he developed once he hit superstardom with 21 Jump Street. I hear he was a total d**k back then. I also have a severe dislike of "prettyboy actors" who I feel tend to get their roles more on the basis of their looks than due to any actual acting talent. Earlier in his career I would have included Johnny Depp in this group. However he has won me over with his performance in Sleepy Hollow (which I watched mostly because I love the story of The Headless Horseman, it's my favourite ghost story). Ever since then I have stopped avoiding his movies. I don't go out of my way to see them, but the fact that they star Johnny Depp won't turn me off of them either.

I had a similar opinion of Brad Pitt, until I saw his performance in The Devil's Own. Now I kinda like him.

One "prettyboy actor" that I cannot stand, that everyone else seems to love, and ithat has yet to redeem himself in my eyes, is Leonardo Dicaprio. Highly over rated as an actor, IMO, has those impossibly good looks that just make you want to pound on him 'til he ain't so pretty no more, plus some intangible quality that just makes me dislike him anyway. Like that one performer that has "It", that intangible quality that makes them so damn good at what they do. He has a similar quality that just makes me want to throttle him.

we must be the same generation. I hated those actors with a passion when they were younger. Then Depp won me over with Ed Wood. DiCaprio is slowly getting there. it seems his skills get better from movie to movie. he still isn't someone whose name on the poster draws me to watch a movie, but I can envision a future when this might happen. Pitt on the other hand, a couple of good performances but still just a pretty face I can't stand.

Ryan Gosling isn't as God-like as some would like to make you think. He's not that great looking either. :o

He's a one trick pony. His 'great' performances in Lars and the Women and Drive are basically him looking bored and emotionless for two hours.

Now say that about Cumberbatch and wait for the cascade of torches and pitchforks. :oldrazz:

On that note, I do dig the guy and he does exceptional work, but I am a tad sick of hearing his name. And once Hollywood wants to throw him in everything it will really get bad. Dude is deserving, but meh.

really? speak his name out loud. It is pure poetry: Benedict Cumberbatch. This name is just great

Karl Urban as Batman.

Not sure if he could make a good batman, but his Bones and Dredd were astounding. He'd be my second choice for Dr. Strange if Cumberbatch is somehow unwilling to play the character
