Okay so he is dumb and makes terrible decisions in the overwhelming majority of his films. Also he is very articulate and calm...this thread isn't about literally playing yourself. Thats impossible. Its about playing a variation of yourself.i disagree that he is wise and smart
Seconded. I remember once Howard Stern joked that all you need to do to be an actor is talk somberly the whole time. Did a segment about it. Now every time I watch Bale I think about that segment. Bale's a good actor because he does get into his roles, but I've never seen him really change his character per say. Take Mark Walhberg for example. You have The Departed Mark, Rock Star Mark and The Other Guys Mark. You don't see that from Bale, he's really locked into very angsty dramatic roles. I don't think you'd ever see him do a comedy like we've seen from Eric Bana. He also doesn't make that transition to tough guy as well as Leonardo DiCaprio. He seems to really be locked in that one mode.
