Not trying to create a hate thread here, I just thought I'd make a thread for those of us who simply can't understand the hype of the appeal of certain actors and actresses. Here are a few that spring to mind for me:

Channing Tatum - Sorry, but this guy is just plain awful. Some actors deliver bad performances, but Tatum is incapable of delivering a performance, period. If terrible actors are considered wooden, this dude is a lumber yard. How is he getting cast in so many movies?

Sam Worthington - I know a lot of you guys love him, but I still fail to see what makes him so appealing. What am I missing here? I think he might have some potential to improve, but for now, it leaves me scratching my head how this guy is landing so many high-profile roles. So far, he's just been kind of "meh" to me.

Kristin Stewart - I thought that maybe it was just the whole Twilight thing, but I've seen people who hate those movies insist that she's a great actress. I haven't seen all that much of her, but she's been pretty bland in most of the things I have seen.

I've only ever seen her in Adventureland (as far as I know of), but I thought she was good in that.
Never seen the Twilight movies. Doubt I ever will. So I can't really say anything about her performance in those.

Brad Pitt - Maybe I believe he's been coasting along because of his looks and he's trying too hard doing that one Oscar worthy movie, he should do an action movie for once.

Leonardo DiCapprio - same as Brad Pitt, all Leo does is artsy fartsy flicks that no one except his female fans want to see.

Russell Crowe - probably best known for his temperament than his movies.

Channing Tatum - as soon as he gets older and fatter people will realize he is indeed a terrible actor.

Dude, did you see The Departed? That was probably the ultimate "guy" movie... not a movie made for chicks, that's for damn sure. Not too artsy either. He was also really badass in Blood Diamond.

He's also got Shutter Island and Nolan's Inception coming out next year, which are two of the most highly anticipated movies by people who frequent this board, and in case you haven't noticed, there aren't a lot of females here. :csad:

I agree with your statement about Tatum, however.

Well, at least we know one person here won't be watching Inception when it comes out this summer.

Its annoying when some people call every non-blockbuster either 'artsy fartsy' or 'pretentious'

Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe shouldnt be in this thread.

why? its someone's opinion on actors/actresses they never understood the hype about
However, I do that his reasoning behind those 2 are pretty iffy actually I will go to say their flat out wrong

But if someone doesnt like an actor its opinion

I think that Sam Worthington is on the verge of over-exposure, IMO. He's been rumored for every action part out there.

^^i'll agree with that. And he still hasnt shown a performance IMO thats good enough to warrant all these roles

Body of Lies, The Departed, Gangs of New York, Blood Diamond, and Catch Me If You Can are considered artsy now? Heh.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I really hate when that happens, even when its with an actor that I like. Christian Bale and Angelina Jolie got rumored for so many parts a few years back it got annoying and I think they are both great actors.

It's even more puzzling when it happens with a guy like Worthington, who hasn't even been in very much. And even if people were blown away by his performances in Terminator and Avatar, I still don't think that's enough to give you this grand insight into how "perfect" he'd before such and such character.

The only newcomer that blew me away in a film this year was Sharlto Copley in District 9, but I'm not going to name him as the "perfect" choice for a bunch of similar characters because, as of yet, I've only seen him in one movie and only have that as a reference as to how good of an actor he is.

Sharlto is in the A-Team movie, but other then that and a possible District 9 sequel, he really has nothing in the works.

Well... yeah, because... ummm... uh... Body of Lies took place in the Middle East and they have art over there. The Departed and Gangs of New York were both by Scorsese and since he's regarded as one of the greatest directors of all time that means he only makes art films. Blood Diamond was about diamonds and we all know how much women like jewelry, so that was clearly an artsy chick flick. And Catch Me if You Can had Tom Hanks, who we all know is an art and symbol expert since he played one in The Da Vinci Code.

I know that... I wasn't saying that he was being overexposed... just pointing out that a newcomer who turned out a great performance doesn't immediately lead to me speculating that he'd be perfect for a dozen other characters.

To me, it's kinda weird how certain actors can't win with some people. I'm not pointing you out or nothing; It must be their status or superstar dom.

It's like Brad Pitt or Leo DiCaprio:

"They are overexposed. They should do small indie and dramatic films!", says one group.

"They are soo pretentious! They should do more action!", says another.

this...

I dont understand hearing people saying Worthington was AMAZING in Terminator Salvation or that he "Acted Bale off the screen". He wasnt bad but in a movie where only him and Kyle Reese were interesting characters and Bale was just being a gruff one note character doesnt say much to much

Fight Club? Mr. And Mrs. Smith? Troy? The Ocean's Eleven films? Inglorious Basterds?

I think it's safe to say that he's done plenty of action movies. And plenty of movies that obviously weren't trying to garner Oscar potential.

Worthington is an action star he is not trying to be or is the studio making him out like he is johnny depp or christian bale
