So, basically, Coulson knows that SHIELD is telling him not the whole truth.

In the previous thread there was a little bit of discussion about the lack of characters from the comics. It's been said before, but it would seem it's worth reiterating: this lack of comic characters thing is a flawed argument. Episode 1 had Maria Hill (totally logical in a show about S.H.I.E.L.D.), episode 2 had Nick Fury (pretty much THE guest character one would expect in a S.H.I.E.L.D. show), episode 3 had Graviton (setting up a villain that's somewhat prominent without being an expected villain in a movie), and episode 5 had a take on Scorch (the mutant version in the comics is likely unavailable, making the "original" Scorch a decent compromise). The only episode to date that had no comic character cameo was episode 4, which featured Skrull writing (and maybe a lawyer friendly nod to Deadpool's hacker buddy Weasel). You are getting comic book cameos of some sort in every single episode. You're just not getting the Avengers versus the Masters of Evil in every single (free) episode.

Episode 04 Eye-Spy spoiler? :D

When Skye used her Rising Tide tricks to decipher the video whatever she typed ended with "WEASEL". Sometime maybe we get a Weasel/Jack Hammer cameo?

Ha. That's pretty neat stuff. I'd love to see Jack Hammer on the show. He's a fun character without even referencing Deadpool.

It may have been a lawyer-friendly reference, similar to the Spider-Man one in the pilot episode.

The most interesting thing is that Coulson knows that he really died and stayed dead for quite some time. That might be a significant clue as to what happened to him. It could point to his consciousness having been transferred into another body, perhaps a clone. Or it could mean that one of my favorite, off-the-wall theories is true: Phil Coulson died and was taken to Valhalla for a bit before being returned to Earth. In the Marvel Universe people don't go to heaven so much as to other realms, so a trip to Asgard's hall of the honored dead isn't so far-fetched.

People on SHH seem to have difficulty distinguishing the difference between knowing something and speculating something

So I've missed the last 2 episodes and probably will miss this weeks too. :csad: The last one I seen was the first half of the girl in the flower dress.

Without anyone having to go into too much detail, have I missed anything real significant?

Sky's got a redacted SHIELD file that hints that her origin is pretty complicated.

Yes. Without spoiling, I'll say that we've learned more about Skye. Do you live in the States? If so, you can watch those episodes you missed on Hulu.

I don't mind being spoiled. Unfortunately, now that I've gone back to work, I'm not gonna have time to catch up. I'd just like to know so I can be caught up on some stuff....like the Skye storyline. From what I read above I gather Coulson's story hasn't evolved immensely...yet. I may be able to watch this weeks episode. Or at least catch the episode Wednesday night after work on ABC's website.

I think you're actually up to date... last week was a rerun

Okay, then, here are the highlights of the latter portion of the episode you missed.

-Centipede has platelets from Scorch's blood to stabilize the Extremis portion of their powers cocktail.
-The doctor from the pilot got burned to death.
-Skye's secret is that she's looking for info on her parents. S.H.I.E.L.D. redacted information on the documents she's obtained. Of note is that some of the redacted information relates to Skye's medical records.
-Reina (the titular girl in the flower dress) talks to a man in some sort of prison about a clairvoyant. This group seems to have a connection to Skye.

Hey thanks, I appreciate that. Are you talking about the guy from Barney Miller...the one who was talking about Coulson with Maria Hill?

It was the lady doctor that died, the one who gave Mike powers.

It's cool that Thor 2 is going on during Shield, and Winter Soldier ties into the end of the season.

Anyone here look at the date on the newspaper that the kid holds up when Stark is presumed dead?

That could've told us if the show is before or after IM3...
When Maya jokes with Tony about him knocking her up, she corrects him and says the kid would be 13... My eyes are bad but if there's a screenshot online that's blown up and you look at the newspaper in Im3 it almost looks like the date says Dec. 23 2013 :)

I think Coulson may know something about Skye parentage because of his matter-of-fact tone when he said "There are some things you may not want to know." or whatever in response to Skye's questions. Or he may have been supporting SHIELD's choice in redacting the information without any knowledge of the information.

I do think it is interesting how quickly Coulson was to trust Skye even though he said "We know nothing about her. Do you know how often that happens?" to Ward in EP. 1. I think Coulson knows something about Skye that has not shared with the audience to this point.

100% pure, concentrated, delicious speculation.

I think people are close with thinking she's Jessica Drew.

IMO Jessica Jones is more likely. Maybe Skye went into a coma and was exposed to chemicals when she was young and her parents died. She spent a long time tracking them down after operating under many aliases and Jones was her adoptive family so that's not even her real name... She has at times used the name miles, and skye, because Jessica Jones has limited flight capabilties she hasn't mastered...
She hoped she could fly out the window like before and gave herself those names/aliases, is good at finding hidden backdoors and tracking down info, more so than hacking. Good at operating under fake names.

Wants to find out more about her dead family. May have ended up in a coma or something and now the info is redacted. IMO she's A.k.a. Jessica Jones.

Marvel was planning a Jessica Jones show, I think they mixed it together with Shield.
And that Jessica Jones could have a way of erasing people's identities. She said she could do this in the first episode and said money could be made. In the comics this Jess has some connections to Heroes for Hire. Jessica Jones would have powers that were caused by a chemical spill, like Daredevil... Except her parents were killed in the accident, she was in the car, survived, ended up in the coma, with no recollection of them and was adopted by the Jones family. The only thing I can't figure out then is what her parents were up to that's so secret, maybe manufacturing the chemicals or something?

She can't fly very well yet and uses multiple aliases, eventually splits off from Shield's team to form Alias, her private investigation firm. She would work more with the Heroes for Hire, once they get started.
