Air Algeria Airlines Flight AH5017 Goes Missing

I already have anxiety issues about flying. A few years back, I actually ended up cancelling a trip I was supposed to take cuz my anxiety got so bad I couldn't get on the plane.

One of my friends is the same way. His solution, he gets fairly drunk before boarding.

This sucks that there's another plane problem. What the hell is going on lately.

Weirder and weirder.

Why the constant need to make up or imply sensationalism. this isn't something, new or that weird/odd going on just "lately"
Sometimes i think it's the media, that plays up the sensationalism and imply some imagined weird/odd connection, but I see people do it to themselves, just prefer to ignore what might be known and focus on the imagined.

The plane sent its last message around 0130 GMT (9:30 p.m. EDT), asking Niger air control to change its route because of heavy rains in the area, Burkina Faso Transport Minister Jean Bertin Ouedraogo said.

Observe giant cloud^

They likely went around towards Niger.

- Burkina Faso air traffic control handed over to the control tower in Niamey, Niger, just across the border from Mali, at 1:38am local time [02.38 UK time].

The missing Air Algerie flight AH5017 was checked "two or three days ago" and was "in good condition", France's aviation watchdog has said.
Patrick Gandil, head of the French civil aviation authority, said the McDonnell Douglas MD-83 "passed through France in Marseille two or three days ago. We examined it and we found almost nothing, it was really in good condition."

Something new? Of course not, planes have crashed before but 3 incidents within a month is kind of random and we don't hear or get that happening as often.

Did you look at the link I provided, it happens often enough.
I even posted a hype link of someone here discussing three close proximity plane crash incidents a few years ago. It's common enough for people to "randomly" have discussed it here before, there is nothing spooky or new about it.
This is not something so sensational completely out of the ordinary, or weird that is just happening now.
Why sensationalize it. Just because they happened close together means nothing!

It's no more "weird" that they happen close together than they do far apart.

But whatever, I guess people need to sensationalize, as evidenced by the thread. Go ahead I guess it's human nature, not sure why it bugs me

Another meteorological map shows the conditions in Mali at the time:

Or maybe some people just have certain feelings toward flying in general that come to the surface in situations like this, and have nothing to with sensationalizing the issue.

Natural fear of flying (going fast being up in the air etc.) I get, and sure any crash would exasperate that.

That these events happened close together, doesn't mean there is anything "odd" or "weird" or a "ploy" as people have said here, . It's not something "new" suddenly happening to planes now, or even that unusual (again check the links). Acting like planes weren't crashing within a span of a few days of each other before. - That I don't get, and strikes me at this point a bit of feeding fear from willful ignorance and sensationalizing.

Which comes close to lending itself to superstition, which i guess is what bugs me.
If there is no connection, why sensationally invent one?

AP reports. We recently heard from the President of Mali who has said wreckage was spotted in two northern towns in his country.

President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said the wreckage of a missing Air Algerie flight had been spotted in his country's desert north, Reuters reports.
"I have just been informed that the wreckage has been found between Aguelhoc and Kidal," Keita said

I looked at that link. Since 2011/2012, I noticed 2 or 3 times where planes crashed two days in a row. Probably more, but was just scanning it.

wtf man...another crash. My family is traveling to Asia in less than 2 weeks...This sort of **** has to trouble people

Moondragon is correct: this isn't that unusual statistically. At least not for smaller flights. The MH ones are a big deal because they are major commercial flights with high passenger counts and specifically sensational circumstances.

If you're flying on a major carrier you should be fine.

They are flying Ethiad Airlines to Abu Dhabi and then from there to India

I don't know much about the airline, but that's a pretty common route to take to India, so it's probably going to be a huge aircraft flying very established routes. I mean, it ain't Qantas, but I'm sure it's fine. Just something to put your mind at ease if it helps. :yay:

Fear is getting the best of people.
Some are looking at three random planes events spread over a period of over 4 months, and now inventing spurious connections that are not there to form a conclusion that it's now become more dangerous to fly.

Every day around 48,000 planes take off and land safely at their destination.

Right now there 9,000 to 12,000 planes in the sky that are fine, getting to where they are going. - Look at them all - http://www.flightradar24.com/44.8,-46.26/3

There is nothing weird, or odd or unusual, or new going on here, they are up there flying safe as always, look at those numbers.

Yeah, I know...Alot more people are flying too...I just hate seeing this news, even though I know more people have a higher rate of getting killed on a car. Just these crashes its hard not to think about it every time one flys now

four random plane events

MH370
Russia missile hitting plane
Taiwan crash
Mali crash

four random plane events
Now calculate how many planes land safe in that same over four month time period.
The safe number is outstanding!

Last time I flew, I ended up sitting next to a rather attractive woman, and sharing a drink or 2 with her, and having pleasant conversation the duration of the flight.

That certainly helped ease my anxiety lol
