Airport sued for not having menorah?

if the airport is owned by the city of seattle, then it was the right thing to do.....because its "encouragement" of religion by the state...violates the constitution

I like holidays for the days off work. I don't care about silly trees or candleholders

* by "right" i mean within the bounds of the law....i'll leave the moral debae to another

this thread title is ridiculously misleading. did you even read the article?

Where is Mel Gibson when you need him?

Does a Christmas tree have anything to do with religion, really? I see no crucifix on the tree. Only lights and ornaments. It just looks festive. I don't know about you people, but I know people who are not Christians who celebrate Christmas because to them, it's a couple of days off from work and a time to spend with family and friends.

I don't understand why they just didn't put up a menorah. Is it that hard to do? It's gotta be easier than removing trees.

My family isn't even Jewish and we have a menorah.

Unlike Christmas witch really isn't religious (not even going to try to spell it) is. So why do you have a menorah?

You spelled 'religious' correctly.

And the menorah was originally gotten as a goof for one of the cats, but the cat has since died, and we just keep putting it out each year. Mom has about three Nativity scenes in the house, along with the tree, but nobody in the house is very religious, so it doesn't matter.

The Rabbi threatend to do it, I'm pretty sure he would have.

from The Seattle Times
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003471726_airport11m.html

Port staff members were first contacted in October by Mitchell Stein, a consultant to the Port for the past five years, who wanted to install a menorah this year. Stein is also affiliated with Chabad.

"We thought the Port was going to make the right decision to support diversity and Hanukkah," Stein said. "The lawsuit was only a way to get their attention."

this is why religion, politics, and science (which wasn't mentioned) will never co-exist....

The difference is that a Christmas tree is not religious. For god's sake many athiests observe Christmas. Hanukkah is only practiced by Jews, while my Buddhist friend comes over for X-mas every year.
