Aladdin sequel in the works

I don't know if the movie is about Jasmine so much as it's just Jasmine completely stealing the movie due Naomi Scott making the Aladdin actor look like amateur hour.

Yeah, that was probably it. She acted rings around him in every scene.

Personally I don't know why so many people disliked the live-action remake. I personally loved it.

It really felt like a set instead of a lived in kingdom. Jafar was pretty bad, Will Smith was playing himself, and it should have just been called Jasmine as others have said because she was clearly the main character.

I effing love jasmine though. It would be cool to see more of her hanging out with Rajah and siccing him on baddies

I like the set look, though.

Well good for those that enjoyed the live action remake. I'll just quietly skip it. Though I will hope they can do a better job when not 'trying' to re-tell the original story.

Really liked the first one. Doubt they would replace Smith though.

Yeah, no. They ain't firing Will Smith. Have you seen what happens to blockbuster sequels without Will Smith (Independence Day, Suicide Squad)? The Rock is still not even close to the draw Smith is in the right type of role.

I wouldn’t count Suicide Squad in there but agree about Independence Day. Even then I blame the writing more than the lack of Will Smith.

I’m talking more financially than critically. I think he (along with Joker love) definitely helped that first Suicide Squad get to like 750M worldwide and why the better sequel never really had a chance.

I mean, outside of known IPs, Will Smith isn't bringing in numbers, and hasn't for awhile. He was not responsible for the Aladdin box office. That was Disney. Not the star of After Earth, Bright, and Gemini Man.

If anyone was going to fire him, it would be Disney. The family brand doesn't want anything to do with the dude who thinks it's okay to assault another person, because he lacks self-confidence.

As I said, he’s (or was) a box office draw “in the right role” when he’s being his charismatic funny self. Those three mentioned, he’s dower and uncharismatic. His presence definitely *added* to the Aladdin box office. More so than say the Rock would’ve in the role.

Smith just needs to lay low for a while and let this blow over. While I think his “punishment” was laughable, I don’t think he should be outright fired either.
Agreed. The incident at the Oscars is really the only time to date he's ever had a public blow-up in his 30 plus career. YES, it was unprofessional, but I've seen worse things happen outside of events like the Oscars. I'd say let's deem that a first-time offence and move on. It's not worth destroying the man's career over.

Exactly. There are other stars and people behind the scenes that have done MUCH worse than what Mr Smith has done and still stay employed.

They can never make a live action movie that comes close to the quality of the first animated film. So stupid to make all those classics into live action versions. Its all about the money with those ones.

In the case of Aladdin, I do think that Smith playing the Genie did at least play a part in being as successful as it was. You can't deny that the Fresh Prince playing the Genie was a '90s nostalgia bomb guaranteed to attract millenials. If it had been someone like James Corden in the role I don't think it would have played as well.

You know everyone likes to hate on James Corden, but I was a fan of his work pre-Late Late Show.

Agreed. Hollywood be working with known (physical/sexual) abusers left/right so Will should be the least of their worries.

Even though I'm not a fan of Corden's, I didn't mean that as a dig at him. I actually only used him as an example because of his boisterous persona that basically fits the Genie (see also: Josh Gad). But Robin Williams was so beloved in the role that there were really only a select few that audiences would actually be okay with filling those shoes in live action, basically a major A-lister like Will Smith.

Will's got most of the punishment already.
I would not totally Cancel him now with not casting him for a long time.

Love that The Rock is replacing Will Smith as Genie...Will Smith deserves to have his roles taken away one by one
