Alcohol thread

Any cider drinkers here?

I like Kopparberg but that's about it. Normally mixed fruit or strawberry and lime but for some reason I can't drink pear or apple flavour.

I drink the occasional Angry Orchard.

I decided to give Miller Fortune a try. It really was like drinking water. Not much flavor, so it's like mildly alcoholic water. The positive being it doesn't taste bad.

I tried it a few weeks ago and was pretty bleh about it. Not a Miller fan so don't know why I thought it would be different. Tasted like every other Miller I've ever had. For cheap beer with a kick I'll stick with Bud Black Crown or Platinum

Never had that. Any good?

I liked the ones I've tried. There are several flavors including seasonal ones. Although I should warn you some of them have a very strong taste. Some people liken it to candy such as Jolly Ranchers.

I've had their Crisp Apple, Cinnful Apple, Apple Ginger and Green Apple. I hear their new Muse is especially good but I haven't bought any yet.

Me either. I almost never drink Miller, Bud, Coors, etc. I thought I'd give this a try instead and it didn't impress me but it didn't disgust me either. It was bland like I said before and I drank it like it was water. :funny:

Not sure what you mean by "fancy", but I love Doorly's XO. Appleton 12 year old is also lovely, but I rarely find it over here.

By fancy, I mean something higher than the typical Bacardi ********.

For some reason rum always does this thing to my stomach after a few drinks were I will get almost cramp like symptoms and then I will have a taste similar to grass in mouth for a few minutes. Then it goes away and I can drink till I blackout. Only with rum though, very odd. Never meant anyone that said they have this problem either and it doesn't matter what brand, cheap or good stuff. Always the same effect.

Usually just stick with a good 12 year single malt scotch these days. Would kill for a good bottle for later tonight but don't feel like going to the store

I picked up a 6 pack of Rogue's Mocha Porter the other day. It's alright but it's too bitter for my liking. Today I got a 6 pack of their Dead Guy brew and that stuff is much better IMO. I can drink it like water too but it isn't lacking in flavor. Nice smooth taste. A little on the pricy side from what I usually get ($14.00 to the usual $8-10 I usually spend) but definitely worth it.

Also grabbed a bottle of Grey Goose vodka. I haven't had vodka in years but I remember this being good.

Grey Goose is lovely, but in my humble opinion, this stuff can now claim to be the world's best vodka.

I don't remember seeing Chase at the store but the next time I go I'll look for it.

I'm not a huge Vodka drinker, but I had some of this at my mates house last weekend and it absolutely floored me. :funny:

There's a new rum line called Topper's Rhum. Bought a coconut yesterday, not bad. The bottles are pretty.

I've been wanting to make my own daiquiri for a while, never had one before.

I don't usually drink, can't remember the last time I did, but when I'm buying for someone else as a gift I usually go to a friends family who have been selling alcohol for decades from their orchard/winery. I buy a bottle of ice wine and I tell them to pour some out over some vanilla ice cream. It tastes amazing and you get drunk off ice cream to boot.

I don't wanna buy simple syrup. Do I just dissolve the sugar in cool water?

Having my first Dark and Stormy, Goslings' of course. Pretty refreshing after a hot day.

Angry Orchard and sometimes Blue Moon. Depends on my mood, thanks to my medications I can't have anything harder then that.

Drinking a little glass of Jack Daniels right now. Not the world's finest, but it's doing right by me. :yay:

Any cider drinkers here?

I come from Somerset in England... we DEFINE cider drinking :p

Here's a little ditty from a Somerset based band called 'The Wurzels' that should sufficiently prove my point.

But seriously though, yes cider is my drink... though sometimes my stomach just isn't feeling it :funny:

Most of these I either already knew or suspected were myths but it was still a good read.

Hmmmmm... some of these I feel are not myths... as in my vast VAST experience of drinking, i've found them to be true.

For example, i've definitely found different alcohol's hit me differently.

There may not be an scientific studies that PROOVE it... but I definitely have an entirely different night if I just stick to my usual cider, than if I try something else... Champagne makes me giggly and bubbly. Lager makes me tired. Tequila makes me flirty. Vodka makes me blackout... there is a definite pattern with these alcohols for me!

More alcohol - it's not that it 'cures' a hangover... but it delays it. Your body can't process a hangover while it's processing being drunk...

The breathalizer thing - I don't know about actual 'tricks'... but I have known people who've been breathalized after way too much to drink... and gotten away with it. Now, I don't condone this, because I think it SHOULD show up and people should have to pay the price... but it's not as simple as 'you've had the drink, therefore you will come up over the limit'... unfortunately :(

The break the seal thing - yeah, obviously if you didn't pee it wouldn't miraculously mean you wouldn't have to pee all night. But tbh I think it works the same as a urine infection does... once you've peed, you feel like you need to pee all the time... even if you don't actually suddenly have to pee more in a miraculous way.

As for the coffee thing... well I just plainly disagree.

Yes, you're still not 'sober' and therefore still capable of making the same bad situations...

But you ARE more 'compos mentis'... you are less speech slurry, you are less likely to pass out, and you are more likely to be able to communicate.

Just my food for thought :)
