Alcohol thread

No it brings the blood to the surface of the skin and makes you feel warmer but it has the opposite effect.

I may actually stop drinking except on super rare occasions. I always get incredibly tired afterwards. :/ I hate that.

Your body's core temperature is cooler because the blood is flowing away from it so I guess you can say that. It makes heating your body up that much harder when the blood that warms it is not where it should be.

That's why drunk people tend to freeze to death outside when they feel so warm. They think they're too hot, they go outside and fall asleep from the alcohol and freeze. Happens way too often in the winter up here, especially with the homeless.

In other news, I've been drinking about a litre a week of booze for the past three weeks. It's the most I've had in a few years. Go 7% apple cider! $6.50 for 1 litre is way cheaper than what the local stores have. Tastes better too.

damn, so it's all just a psychological thing. it really doesn't help you out in the least.

It's a physical thing, thermodynamics ( I think ), you really feel warmer, it's not a mind trick, it's just not helpful if you are caught in a deep freeze.

Meanwhile, I'm sipping on a glass of Talisker Storm. Any whiskey amateur know this stuff ?

well you're also intoxicated. but if you are truly warmer then that means it does make you warmer doesn't it?

Not where it counts as Teelie explained, it's superficial and the effect of alcohol also clouds your perceptions which doesn't help.

Ok. i thought with mentioning thermodynamics that it wasn't just psychological but that you actually are warmer.

I am not expert but if I'm correct, your skin is warmer because of the blood flow but your inner body and organs become colder and colder.
Thermodynamics can explain how it works, I think.

That is close enough. I don't know how exactly to explain it but with the blood on the surface of your skin where you feel the heat gives the illusion of being warmer even as your inside of your body is actually getting colder.

I don't have a problem with pumpkin beer any more than I do other flavored beers except so many of them are only vaguely pumpkin tasting or are not a good combination.

Probably b/c so few of them actually use pumpkin at all. They just dump in some pumpkin spice and call it a day.

I hate pumpkin flavor.

You can hate on me, but I'm gonna drink an Angry Balls tonight and feel good about it.

I prefer nice cold refreshing macro brewed beers (that's where the real parties at right?:yay:). Nothing like sipping on an ice cold can of Natti Ice from a wino bag on a warm summer day (although to be honest I haven't actually sported any wino bag around my can lately but who knows rent aint cheap).

However, I don't think variation hurts. While I don't feel great about it, I have spent a lot of hard earned cash on some of the monastery brewed (trappist ales) Belgium styled beers lately. I highly recommend looking for a bottle of Rochefort or Westmalle. Both are top rated beers meant to be drunk out of a special glass (although I just use a cheap cocktail one).

i drank a few nights ago, got really really drunk and had a mini-hangover, I think. it wasn't a terrible headache but felt slightly dizzy when I woke up. still no vomiting.

This is a good time of year for beer, Octoberfest from Sam Adams is out right now and that was always a go-to of mine in my drinking days

Rochefort 10 is my favorite beer. 6 and 8 are good, but 10 is amazing. I want no parts of any macrobrews though.
