Alex Cross

Apparently it did worse then the two Morgan Freeman films. Those came out so long ago. Take inflation into account and it is downright horrible.

This movie was very meh and not to mention short! I commend Tyler for trying to branch out and I respect what he has achived and the fact that he gives black actors work, but he just felt out if place in this movie. From his acting to his action scenes it was just meh. Matthew Fox was a decent villian but I. Would have like to have had more backstory on the character. But the movie is just lacking something, I can't really put my finger on it, it feels more like a straight to DVD/ redbox flick 6/10 for me.

If Idris Elba were playing Cross in this I probably would've seen it, not much interest in Madea vs. a serial killer though.

It looked awful and apparently it is awful. Pass. Poor Fox. He looked like he put a ton of prep into this film....then they cast Tyler Perry.

I would put the blame more on director Rob Cohen.

Yeah. Even though I really didn't like Tyler for the part, a good director and a solid script could made it work.

Alex Cross is not as bad as some critics have stated ,but its no suspenseful masterpiece
either. It has always been hard for me to view Tyler Perry as a romantic lead but
Perry is okay as Dr Alex Cross who is able to define a crime scene in seconds
and i have always liked Edward Burns who portrays his partner Tommy Kane
their banter is one of the highlights of the film.
The villain Picasso who likes pain is interesting,Matthew Fox got into shape for the part
and adds odd wide eyed and facial tics to the character but even with all of this
Picasso is underwritten.
There are some good family moments with Cicely Tyson as Cross's grandmother, Nana Mama,
but other moments that are supposed to be emotional and moving fall flat due to some muted acting.
The early action sequences are fun, some unexpected turns in the script are good, but im not sure why
Director Rob Cohen decided to shoot a major fight scene so murky and shaky its as if it was shot
during a brownout and an earthquake.
There is a rumor that the next Alex Cross film is in pre production if so i hope the villain is more fleshed out
and the Director actually wants the audience to see the action sequences.

Scale of 1-10 a 7

Seen and I pretty much agree. It's not horrible, and it's not awesome either. It's a mild movie. I don't agree with most of the critics on this movie either. Tyler wasn't bad at all in my opinion, he played the role correctly. I hope he decides to do more versitile roles to prove he has the ability. This movie is just the start.

I don't know much about the director but yeah his action scenes are lack luster.

He's gonna have to build that star power up.

I actually think Chiwetel Ejiofor (However you spell his name) would be best man for this role. Even better than Idris Elba. That along with a better director and script.

What sucks for Perry is that movies with much bigger and more popular African American actors are coming out within the next several weeks, starting with Cloud Atlas (Halle Berry), followed by Flight (Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle) and Django Unchained (Jamie Foxx and Samuel L Jackson).

In other words, he's going to be crushed in the box office by Hollywood's A and B List African Americans, a group who I don't think Tyler Perry is popular with (and too expensive to boot).

Tyler reminds me of M. Night in how he is unable to take advantage of his success and make something special out of it. What I saw with both M. Night and Tyler is a lot of pandering despite their position in Hollywood as filmmakers who aren't white.

Alex Cross, with this script and direction, would have tainted Idris' career.

Pandering in what way and pandering to whom? As for Perry he has built a successful formula-whether you like it or not-so I don't call that 'pandering'. He has cultivated an audience over years and largely given them what they wanted.

And he has been tweaking that formula and with Cross went in a different direction. And despite the questionable content or messages of some of Perry's works, I think he has made something special out of his success by giving a lot of people of color jobs and opportunities that they might not have gotten otherwise.

Really? Even with with the terrible script and terrible director you still think Elba could have saved them film

Why is everybody blaming the failure on Tyler Perry?

Because people are salty that he became popular from doing traveling plays as a cross dressing grandmother. In all seriousness, it is unfair to blame Tyler Perry for the film's failure. He wasn't the problem, but he was an easy scapegoat...not Rob Cohen or a dookie ass script.

Plus it's not like the source material is exactly great American literature or anything... Take off the Morgan Freeman blinders, and ask yourselves "Were the first two Alex Cross movies really that good?" :o

Ok.... care you tell why? or give us your review?...

Yep, that is true. I wonder how many people even knew the character by name let alone knew that it was a film series.
