Alien Abduction: Incident at Lake County

Anyways, if you guys liked this, you should try tracking down this movie called Ghost Watch. (it's one word, but hype censors it). It was a Mockumentary made by the BBC, using actual reporters.

With the possessed girl?
And if I remember, the studio documenting what was being shown was suddenly taken over.

Got thousands of people across the UK scared s***less, and I actually remember watching this Top 100 Scariest Moments on Ch4. Apparently the BBC received such letters as,

'thank you for scaring my dear husband. during the show, he was so frightened that he accidentally excreted in his pants'

Ha-ha, lovely.

Yup that's it. I've never been able to watch the whole thing, but I've seen bits and pieces of it and it has some really unnerving moments.

So many people are trying to shrug this (Incident at Lake County) off like "ITS TEH FAKE! LOLZ PWNED!" But I argue it doesn't matter. For a made for UPN mockumentary, there is something special about it. It is incredibly atmospheric. Like Superman4ever said, It really does invade one's comfort zone.

Oh no, I agree that it doesnt matter. I was watching it as a movie. I will say that the two creepiest parts were Tommy in his room with the alien and the ending. Its pretty well done for a tv movie, but I can't overlook the bad dialog, acting, and special effects. Also, I don't know if anybody else felt this way, but some of it reminded me of Signs.

Guy, Curt, was being a dick when they were passing around the candle. If no one's gonna believe you, one might as well resign himself to enjoy a quaint dinner before the aliens arrive to lobotomize one self.

actually the aliens took over their minds first before getting to Tommy.

the spaceship was truly laughable.

also what's funny is that at the end when we see the red light on the wall before the aliens enter, there's no reaction from the family, I mean you can clearly see the red light flooding the room...but no reaction.

Well I think the only other person to react to seeing the Aliens was Tommy's sister, the others already seemed to be unphased, so it's possible they didn't see it till coming to the very last second.

I also agree with an earlier poster about how silly it was that the family didn't react at all to them running into the house screaming about aliens even when one of the brothers was hurt. I can understand being a little skeptical, but the way they blew them off made it seem like they do this sort of thing twice a day.

I think an important point you guys are missing is, some of that stuff could've been intentional. By the end, when the red light was coming in (as Swifty pointed out) the family had clearly already been under the alien's thrawl to some extent and were experiencing missing time (as they did not discuss any of the previous events).

As to them being skeptical and not alarmed at first...maybe on a subconscious level, they were as you suggested, used to it. Throughout the movie, usually through the little girl, it was heavily implied that this was not the family's first experience with the aliens.

Curt would make a great protagonist if we could get inside his mind, Lovecraft style.

Are we really going to go into an in depth debate about the characters of a crappy movie?

From what I saw, it wasn't too bad. I admittedly skipped a few parts, was watching something else on the television set...but, it seemed better than the Blair Witch project.

Wish the final scene lasted a bit longer, with the arrival of them.

No one is forcing you to take part in it.

"We" meaning you guys. Its just funny to me thats all. I bet the filmmakers never would have thought a discussion like this was going to be held.

I actually feel bad for the filmmakers. I do not believe they ever intended for UPN to portray it as real. Quite the contrary. Imagine if this were done on a slightly higher budget. I firmly believe people would be saying "Blair Witch who?" and this would be the classic.

I wonder if Abrams has checked this out?
Anyway Matt, if you haven't seen Ghost Watch, do so somehow. If you enjoyed this, you'll probably like this mockumentary too.

I saw Ghost Watch. Considering the hype around it, I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed.

Probably due to the ending, where it all seemed to go too far, I'm guessing.

so what's the big deal about Ghostwatch?
can anyone elaborate?

The aliens parts were pretty cool, but the dysfunctional family went over the top quite a few times.

The racial tension between the black boyfriend and his girlfriend's brother (all conveniently captured on video) seemed to come out of left field to me and was kind of forced. However, as this was originally aired on UPN, I'm guessing that the writers needed it as a way to awkwardly shove some diversity into the otherwise lily-white plotline.

I remember seeing that a long ass time ago and I thought it was real, scared the dog **** out of me.

^^ See the problem that most people who are watching it now, 10 years later, and disregarding it as crappy (and kinda don't understand what all the hype is about) is the fact that when it originally aired it was advertised as a true story. Hell, some of us even thought that it was intercut with actual footage and/or the whole thing was real footage. :O

It looks low budget, cause that was point.
