Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

And Grace Randolph said they should sell the Alien franchise lol.
Are they punishing me for still buying physical? I’m tired of these long waits. Hell hopefully the 4k are at a reasonable price. Inside Outs 4k was being sold at $60 at my Walmart and they only got one copy which I left on the damn shelf lol.

Blu-ray just in time for Christmas. Nice.

Disney's recent trend of only putting the 4K in the steelbook and then not releasing the steelbook here is becoming very frustrating.

So Romulus made something happen I didn't predict. I now no longer hate Alien: Covenant, even somewhat enjoyed it on my re-watch.

Actually, I hate Covenant more now. Romulus was perfect with its scares and decent characters. Covenant was the opposite.

Whilst I agree Romulus is the far superior movie, it also debunked the fact that David was the creator of the Xenomorphs, which was an idea I hated.

If they reverse Engineered the black goo from big chap in Romulus, then David didn't create the Xenomorphs, so Covenant is more bearable to me now.

And that made me happy. Plus Covenant takes place 15 years before Alien starts, so the Nostromo's already out there. And it's established the derelict on LV-426 was there for millennia. So why try and retcon that anyway, Ridley?

Yep. That's why I can tolerate Covenant now and even enjoy some parts of it.

Didn't Prometheus already debunk David creating them? Like there was a mural or something depicting the xeno.

Yeah pretty much. The Xeno obviously existed before. But after Covenant many believe David had created them.

A lot of this is pure speculation and assumption on my part but we've heard that the Engineers had different factions among them and with Prometheus there's also a lack of xenomorphs (not just the creature but no eggs or anything). That combined with the mural made me speculate that the engineers found the way of creating the xenomorphs but due to the fact it requires hosts it was probably something controversial and they probably realized the danger it would pose too because this creature can multiply quickly and take over. So I just assumed that it was probably forbidden and wiped out by the 'main' engineers but then you probably had a subgroup of engineers who worshipped it (hence the mural for example).

Maybe there was some fear on the engineer's part that the xenomorph could be their own demise whereas with David he sees them as the ultimate lifeform and he doesn't care if it means wiping out some engineers or humans in the process.

I think Prometheus mentions different factions of the Engineers. Covenant really should have gone into it more rather than focusing on David, as fascinating a character that he is.

But Romulus took away any doubt that the Xeno's existed before David and that's why it such a breathe of fresh air for the franchise.
