Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

This fell more in line with the 90s/10s Alien films then the OGs for me quality wise. It had this schlocky feel and opened up rushing to just get into the action while disregarding character and actually nuanced set up. Everyone was fairly one-dimensional.

But it’s mostly entertaining. The whole Holm situation worked into the story well enough, but it could’ve been any old android. It’s just an odd choice to try and connect it to a 40 year old film for no reason. The last 45mins felt like an entirely different film pacing wise. It felt so long. Needing to have both the OG Alien design and creating a new one felt a little unnecessary and kinda dragged it along imo.

Jonsson was quite good though, and the rest of the cast were fine enough. I liked Merced and Speaney’s contributions.

I swear, it's like he saw my post and said, "You know what? I'm not going to mention Cailee Spaeny at all. I'm not giving him the satisfaction." :o

Jokes aside, I'm glad he seemed to like it. Otherwise he would've just said "Watched Alien: Romulus" and left it at that.

Ok saw it last night and loved it. I really love that it did with autistic people what the original film did for women action heroes.

I think they “get your hands off her you *****” line could have been skipped. It was a bit nostalgic and didn’t quite work well. But the ending, wow. I’ve never heard all the women in the audience retch before”

Did you know who really die at the end of this movie after injecting themselves, & getting on munched at the end of this movie? No body of that person was shown at the end. Will the person come back to life on the way to that planet? Left open for a sequel?

There you go, all those people who said you had to dumb it down to make it profitable are eating s**t now

And Grace Randolph said they should sell the Alien franchise lol.

Are they punishing me for still buying physical? I’m tired of these long waits. Hell hopefully the 4k are at a reasonable price. Inside Outs 4k was being sold at $60 at my Walmart and they only got one copy which I left on the damn shelf lol.

Blu-ray just in time for Christmas. Nice.

Disney's recent trend of only putting the 4K in the steelbook and then not releasing the steelbook here is becoming very frustrating.

So Romulus made something happen I didn't predict. I now no longer hate Alien: Covenant, even somewhat enjoyed it on my re-watch.

Actually, I hate Covenant more now. Romulus was perfect with its scares and decent characters. Covenant was the opposite.

Whilst I agree Romulus is the far superior movie, it also debunked the fact that David was the creator of the Xenomorphs, which was an idea I hated.

If they reverse Engineered the black goo from big chap in Romulus, then David didn't create the Xenomorphs, so Covenant is more bearable to me now.

And that made me happy. Plus Covenant takes place 15 years before Alien starts, so the Nostromo's already out there. And it's established the derelict on LV-426 was there for millennia. So why try and retcon that anyway, Ridley?

Yep. That's why I can tolerate Covenant now and even enjoy some parts of it.
