Alien vs. Predator 2 Scheduled for 2007

Same here.

I did read all those, yup, and indeed, I am a huge fan. Out of all the scripts we could've gotten, this might've been the best option in a lot of ways - however, it could still be much better. If I just accepted every movie based on what we got instead of what could've been, well, then I'd like everything! :)

Not me. I strongly prefer what we got, I didn't like those comics, especially when the woman starts living on the Predator ship and becomes a human Predator out of boredom! I also think the only real error in AVP is the sped-up lifecycle, and frankly, the gestation period of chestbursters seems to differ in all of these movies...

We saw the Alien stay perfectly silent and in hiding until Ripley was within striking distance in the first film. The Queen did the same. :)

I like Resurrection too, better than Alien 3. My only problem with AR is the ending, which is too derivative of the first two movies' endings... plus the CGI in the finale sucked.

I haven't played it... YET. :)

I do agree the later avp series got very silly but the first was brilliant. I love avp, don't get me wrong, but there are quite a few descrepancies (ie Preds love to hunt in hot , humid places, but go to antartica? And they skin trophies which they didn't here... Plus an alien doesn't attack a host unless in direct danger, and the queen was the one who pursed the predator when it could have spread the alien further). But they don't bother me that much, as I think it's a really fun movie. I'm just sayin continuity wise, it does a worse job that A3 (I still love ALL the alien movies though ).

I really want to get a mobile, just to play that aliens game. I have brought quite a few consoles for aliens games, including the psone for the excellent alien trilogy, and i had a gameboy for thantos encounter, and i got a ps2 for colonial marines before it was sadly cancelled :(

I just finished the novel...it starts off a little slow but REALLY picks up steam towards second half, once the aliens come into the picture. It's basically Alien 5, and continues on from Res, and awnsers some questions about the original alien encounter and the pilot species. However don't worry it doesn't reveal everything, so the mystery is still there. but clears stuff up in a very good way that fits into cannon. Worth hunting down for sure.

Well, the comics were the ones who first suggested that the Predators COULD hunt in cold, they just PREFERRED heat. Obviously they can survive in the cold, or the Predator in P2 would never have been getting his food out of a meat packing plant and then kicking soldier ass in there. And since the temple in Antarctica was once in a warmer climate, it's not like they could move it around or something when it froze over. To say nothing of the fact that it makes the rite of passage that much more of a trial. I dunno. The cold thing didn't bother me that much because I see the logic at work behind it, but it did occur to me.

As for the host thing... the aliens don't attack a host of a QUEEN. That's the only rule that's ever been set in stone. :) Regular old soldier-hosts aren't that important... even Predalien hosts. ;)

I really want to get a mobile, just to play that aliens game.

I played it. It's bad. Really bad. It looks like an FPS game in the screenshots, and then you play it and you realize it's not. It's just a little "timing" game where you have to hit the button to shoot at the right time when the alien is one of THREE poses. That's it. It can only strike three poses. It can't really move around the screen, and you can't move even an inch. You're stuck in one place, and each stage just has you standing still in a new background. Sad. It was also pretty damn easy.

Oh, and don't even play the Predator mobile game. I thought it sounded so cool, but it's programming so fautily that you can't even pass the first level because it somehow instantly kills you if you try. ARGH.

I have brought quite a few consoles for aliens games, including the psone for the excellent alien trilogy, and i had a gameboy for thantos encounter, and i got a ps2 for colonial marines before it was sadly cancelled :(

I never played Alien Trilogy. :( Or Alien Resurrection for that matter, which is another title I always wanted to experience. And I'm still disappointed that the announced AVP game for GBA got canned and never came out! Thanatos Encounter wasn't half-bad, though. Tough, but not bad.

Cool, I always thought they should explore the mysteries behind the Space Jockey. Although just about all the Alien/Predator comics have sucked in my eyes (except for a number of the crossovers with other companies, like Superman/Aliens and Batman/Predator and whatnot), I did like the fact that Aliens: Book One got into finding out what was up with the friggin' space jockey. I always wanted the movies to go there.

I'm thankful that Alien vs. Predator answered another one of my questions about the first Alien, though, which is "How did the Company know that it wanted this alien so badly?" Well, obviously because it had heard about the aliens hundreds of years earlier, through Lex's account of the events in Antarctica, and they've probably been trying to get their mitts on the alien as soon as they could get into space travel. And sure, her story may have sounded pretty wild at first, but she has one of the Predator weapons... which, as we know from Predator 2, are made from elements not even found on this planet... so that should damn well verify her story.

Damn its good to meet another hardcore aliens fan

I loved AVP. The only thing that kinda bugged me is that I always assumed the Bishop in A3 was the real, human Bishop, it kinda struck me as a desperation move the company would use, but oh well. I mean it wouldn't be that hard to color a synthetic's blood. I loved that final scene in alien 3 especially (along with the equally awesome funeral scene and dillions 'i aint never been much for begging' speech...)

Did you ever read the colonial marines technical manual? sadly its out of print now but its brilliant.

That sucks about the mobile game :( I thought it was a fps like you said. It looked damn good too, for a mobile game. Was the mobile AVP game any good?

I LOVED that you got to use powerloaders in Thanatos encounter. In some ways it reminds me of avp extinction, which is definitly worth hunting down. If you can find alien trilogy and resurrection for cheap, too, definitly get them. Alien Res still looks pretty good, considering, and both are some of my favourite movie games ever. They are doing a new aliens arcade game too, but id prefer something i could own :(

I LOVED the first 'trilogy' of aliens comics (earthwar, female war and nightmare asylum). They started to go downhill after that, with the odd gem here and there, but those stories were awesome 'alternate' sequels.
I was surprised how good the Superman/Aliens combo came out though, I was expecting them to suck but it turned out really good.

You know I watched Predator 2, and it's amazing how much that vision of the future did come true, with more heatwaves and gang crime and what not...just thought it was interesting, despite the comic book nature of the movie.

I never read many Predator comics...love the movies and games (concrete jungle had aliens in it :D), but my heart always belonged to aliens.

I collect aliens figures and stuff too, they did a pretty sweet army men type set of the lv4-27 colony with plastic marines and aliens and promised more sets, but sadly the company seems to have gone under :( they were also gonna do mini figures of marines and aliens too so that sucks :( us aliens fans cant catch a break, i tells ya

And there never was, but than again I am an athiest.

Well, I think God is much more complicated than you atheists all realize. We are all made up of nuclear particles, which are invisible. Who's to say there isn't a supreme being comprised of atomic material that's not a concrete, tangible thing we can grasp? There are alot of mysteries in this world that atheists and our current scientific competencies cannot even begin to fathom.

I don't see why we just can't get an awesome Predator 3 movie....?

Back at ya!

Yeah, the final scene is the highlight. As for "Bishop II"... I still choose to say he was human and the true designer of the Bishop android. I refuse to change the continuity because of AVP. *lol* I just figure that he's a descendant of Weyland. After all, they look alike, but not identical due to the fact that Lance Henriksen hasn't really aged that well in the face, heh.

Did you ever read the colonial marines technical manual? sadly its out of print now but its brilliant.

Yes! Stumbled across one copy in a Barnes & Noble in Chicago a few years back, great read, full of info.

Was the mobile AVP game any good?

I actually didn't play that one... yet. I was kind of afraid to after the Aliens game and the Predator game were both so bad. *lol*

If you can find alien trilogy and resurrection for cheap, too, definitly get them. Alien Res still looks pretty good, considering, and both are some of my favourite movie games ever.

I'll need to get a PS1 first, unfortunately. Never had much reason to own one of those. But today they're probably cheap enough that it could be done, at least.

I also wonder about the old AVP game for the Jaguar. Never owned one of those things either!

They are doing a new aliens arcade game too, but id prefer something i could own :(

I highly recommend you download MAME, the arcade emulator. That + the ROM files for the Alien vs. Predator and Aliens arcade games have given me a lot of joy on my PC. I bought a controller for my PC just so I could use it with MAME. And on top of playing the awesome AVP game and the Aliens game, I also get to play through some of my other old arcade favorites, like The Simpsons and X-Men. Check it out. :)

I LOVED the first 'trilogy' of aliens comics (earthwar, female war and nightmare asylum). They started to go downhill after that, with the odd gem here and there, but those stories were awesome 'alternate' sequels.

I always felt like the comics try too hard to be "rated R." They introduce a ton of drugs and sex in an attempt to be "edgy" and really, the movies were never like that, so it kills the feel for me. Very interesting direction to take Newt and Hicks from what I've read, though, and I did love how they brought back the Space Jockeys, like I said. I didn't think Ripley acted in-character in Book Three (Female War) at all, though, which hurt things in my eyes. She was too cold, too hard.

Didn't they end up going back and reprinting those comics after Alien 3 came out so that Newt was now some chick named "Billie" and Hicks was now some generic dude named "Wilks" or something? I think I read about that somewhere.

So far, I think the best Aliens comic I've ever read (outside of the crossovers) is Aliens: Sacrifice. Damn good story, and it's only a simple one-shot.

As far as crossovers go, though... that's really where it's bad. If you haven't read them all yet, check out Superman/Aliens I and II, Batman/Aliens (but definitely not the horrible Batman/Aliens II), Batman vs. Predator I, II and III, and Green Lantern/Aliens. All great stuff, although Superman/Aliens II does require you to be up on your Darkseid/New Gods history. :)

So true. I was heartbroken when Palisades announced they were going bankrupt and shutting down. Their Alien and Predator statues and bust were exquisite. Still are, frankly. I mean, you can get a bust of the Alien's design from each film in the series, how sweet is that?

*Crosses fingers*Please 20th Century Fox, if you're smart you won't let Paul W.S. Anderson near this movie!

I wish I could get an emulator :( my computer is so crappy...it can barely do stills with full resolution :( but when I get my new computer though, I will definitly try and get hold of it. I don't know if you have a psp or anything but apparently there is going to be 1000 ps1 games for download from sony, and I'd bet on one or both aliens games being part of that.

I don't buy busts :( too expensive...but we have had quite a lot of good alien merch so I can't complain too much...the original hasbros, the alien res figs, mcfarlane, playset, micromachines, so its not all bad...but damn I wish McF would have made a vasquez and hudson figure.

Oh I don't know if you have been to this site, its not a videogame, but an 'interactive story', and it's actually really cool

You're right about the Billie/Wilkes thing, to 'mainttain continuity' with alien 3 (of course it still didn't explain how Ripley was alive, but they said in the novelisations that she was an android).

Yeah I had the same thought about Bishop being a descendent...but he seems to shrug off the blow easier than he should have, so I'm not too sure ....but part of me definitly hopes it was (but then Charles Weyland was closer to the 'benevolent' Bishop....grr head trauma trying to work this stuff out lol).

Wanna know what would make an awesome AVP movie? If they followed the AVP and AVP2 games. I spent the better part of 2 years playing AVP2, and AVP is still a classic. I want to see numerous styles of aliens, preds as well as marines and corps. That would be the best movie ever made, period.

Alas, it will never come tobe I fear, for budget constraints and poor writing are too large an obstacle. But still...

Ironically, one of the biggest complaints people seemed to have about AVP was that the "different styles of Predator" were "stupid." Siiiiiigh.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=14906

Well, it looks like the movie has a director. Or rather, a couple of directors.

They have no feature film experience and have only directed a number of music videos like Powerman 5000's "Bombshell" and Godsmacks "I Stand Alone," or commercials like the ad campaign for the PS2 game "God of War."

Great. Totally unproven unknowns. Somehow I expected them to at least hire a guy who'd actually made a movie before. This just further proves that Fox plans to rush this thing for a quick buck... :\

I LOVE that Godsmack video! And the God Of War commercials rock!! LOL!

I want to like AVP2, I liked the first, but hiring two directors known for special effects work mainly? Sounds sucky. I hope I am wrong though.

I enjoyed RE Apocalpyse in a trashy bad movie kinda way, but I dont want the same to happen to AVP2 which could be a good movie.....but hiring pretty much a non director hindered Apocalypse, and I get the feeling this will hinder avp2

You saw it on the front page, so we might as well discuss it here...

New release date: December 21, 2007. Merry Christmas!

New title - Alien vs. Predator: Survival of the Fittest. That's pretty cool.

Plus it seems confirmed that they're using that script that AICN reviewed... damn.

Fox is playing alien and predator for a dumb horror franchise, and its sad.
