Aliens Vs Predator

As bad as the 1st film was, I can safely put together a list of what was good about it (no really):

1. Aliens were well-designed and portrayed
2. The 1st fight scene (the only one ) had a few good moments...Grid tripping Celtic, Celtic cutting off Grid's tail, then tackling him followed by Grid getting swung into columns
3. When Celtic and Grid faceoff, the music + zoom ins were a nice touch, music helped too
4. Scar blasting away at Aliens
5. Celtic swatting that guy down the tunnel and grunting while he did it...he's like "B I T C H, take this"

Ya, that's all I can think of actually.

Compared to what I liked about AvP:R:

1. Leaner, more athletic Predator from 1987
2. Bigger and better fight scenes
3. Predalien
4. Aliens were even better this time round
5. Original sound effects
6. Original music
7. Sense of dread (at least relative to the first film)
8. Badass Predator
9. Gorier
10. An ending that worked (c'mon, in the first AvP that woman just walks off and we never see her again)

What do we learn about AvP's characters? They're researchers and expeditionists (made it up), that's about it.

The Predator in P2 was the real deal, not some WWE embarrassment pumped on steroids.

P2 had no action?! Where was the action in AvP?? Relatively speaking, AvP was mind-numbingly boring compared to P2. P2 had tons of action.

One major problem that I've had with the films featuring Predator after the original, is that Arnold was really what made the original for me. I mean, the Predator itself was cool and all, but it was the fact that you had a larger-than-life hero going head to head against it that really got my blood pumping. Danny Glover is a great actor, but in Predator 2 he was kind of under utilized, and I certainly wouldn't peg him as the black equivalent to Arnold Schwarzenegger. And in the AVP movies, there really is no "dutch" type character where you think "Yeah, I want to see this guy take on the Predator, mano-a-mano." That's probably partially because the movie is Alien vs. Predator, not "big tough guy" vs. Predator. But even so, when you take a big tough dude out of the equation, Predator loses some of it's magic, for me at least.

And with the first two Alien movies, what made them great was largely the human element as well. You saw a whole lot more of the human characters than you did the monsters, but they were interesting and well played enough that they naturally were the focus of your attention. When you start using un-likeable, un-defined characters, you simply stop caring, and it turns into just another stupid monster movie.

Basically, the Alien and Predator series are becoming just run-of-the-mill monster movies. What made the originals good was the humans, but with the AVP series, they've been treating it more like "All anyone cares about is seeing the monsters. Let's give 'em what they want." And as a result, it's only a shadow of what the two franchises were in their early years.

hmmm let me see...how about he's a dedicated cop who wants to clean up his city and this Predator running round ripping his teams heads off and killing his best friend A) really p*ssed him off and B) makes him look bad to his officials.

Danny Glover was brilliant in this film because he wasnt some action junky muscle man like Arnie. He was an over weight cop who had to struggle with his fear of heights and fight something he'd never encountered before...i have as much respect for Predator 2 as i do for Predator 1.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA???!!!! Did you miss the part where Pred 2 started in the middle of a gang war that ended w/ the Urban Pred taking out an entire group of coked-up bangers armed to the gills?! What about the scene on the subway where the Pred takes on about a dozen cops? Predator 2 had more action, violence and gore than the original because it didn't have the collective star power.

As far as Glover's character, you didn't think it was cool to see Glover playing a character that was so close to Martin Riggs?

Well they probabley didn't want a black Arnie as it would be the same character only black. The reason they cast Glover probabley becuase as well as being a good actor he wasn't Arnies Dutch. Glover suited his role as a urban cop up against a predator and Anie suited his role as a black ops commando againsta predator in the jungle. Different approach to the same villian. To many sequels are just rehashes of the orginal movies.

Me two..Although I did "like" pred 2 I think pred 1 was better because of the cast and surroundings..
but we didnt get to see much o predator in 1 so thats why I also like predator 2..Nearly straight away you saw the predator..

just saw the movie. finally
I loved all the battle scenes, but didn't give a damn for the characters and it was all a lot dark. couldn't see things sometimes. the final is a ****, too. Wolf is the best Pred so far. the aliens and the predalien were pretty cool. it was worth.
8/10.
