Predator Franchise

To really bring new life to the Predator franchise, they need to go back to the roots. No, this doesn't mean turning it into a retro-80s action movie in a jungle. Rather, they need to find pick a contemporary popular movie genre, and use the predator mythos and imagery as a tool for subverting that genre. Which would be tricky, because the most obvious popular modern genre, the super hero, is also the most resistant to being subverted this way ( "alien hunter shows up" is not actually an outside context problem in any way for said genre ).
There are two genres that could easily fit the bill here.
  • A Western. Predator vs Cowboys & Indians
  • Historic. A Predator in Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, or hunting Vikings etc
Unless someone wants to throw a Predator into a Supernatural film and see how such the alien gets along when put up against Ghosts, Demons and Werewolves.

So clearly what's needed is a team-up; Centurion, Medjay, Samurai, Viking v. Predator.

God knows what will happen at this point. I never had the faith that some did about Shane Black doing a Predator movie, I not big on him as a director, as he tries to be too smart at times and it often just comes off as him not being as smart as he thinks. Which for me a lot of The Predator was.

They should have continued what they started with Predators IMO, at least that was trying to bring something new and at the same time interesting to the franchise (the war between the 2 Predator factions). The Predator just pretty much tried to undo everything in the franchise.
