Altered Carbon

I can't pretend... I think Joel is a tough act to follow.

Also, not THAT high on Mackie. I know people love him as Falcon especially but I find him good but not great in the part. On the other hand I like him more in other parts. I guess if Mackie is less Sam Wilson in this the better. And... I don't know I am feeling he is doing that in the trailer.

Also, I think it makes sense for Tak to be a bit looser. Still cynical but after season one he is probably a little more acclimated to his circumstances.

I could not tell from the trailer if the action happens on Earth or a colonized planet ....anyone knows ?

If it follows the general contours of the next book in the series (I haven't read any AC but my friend Jeremy filled me in as he has...) then the entirety if not the majority of the story should take place outside of Earth.

Spoilers follow from the books:

If they hew close to the books the planet Tak is heading to is in fact the place where he was born, the same planet we saw in the flashbacks to Tak and his sister's childhood, when their father killed their mother and Tak killed him and disposed of the body. The name escapes me now, but it was a newly settled world when Kovacs was a boy. Now of course centuries have passed and it's developed more. Again if the season is generally following the outline of the progression in the novels then there will be furthering of the alien civilization concept.

That said the first season already made significant, if understandable changes to the book. The Tak/Falconer relationship along with Tak's origin as an Envoy are quite different in the novel. So I can't for sure say 100% this is what definitely takes place on the show.

Here for this. I agree that Joel was great in season one but I think Mackie will also be really good. Though I do think Will Yun Lee was the best Kovacs and I hope that in the third season (if we get one) he'll play the central role (which they can easily make work; just say they cloned his body or whatever). Kinnaman, IMO, was at his best when he was playing Ryker. I'm not sure how long after the first season this takes place but it would be cool to see Ryker and Ortega show up again for an episode.

I liked this new season, the scifi stuff about the planet was interesting, the story fine, no dragging.
It was a nice surprise to have the actress playing the detective from Daredevil/Luke Cage, I like her, she's sculptural.
Season 1 had this Blade Runner visual feel about it, S02 continue on the same veine but this time as it was on an off world colony.

I liked the new season but think they should've used the guy who was originally Kovacs for this go around (Lee) not Mackie. I like Mackie but for this show it just seems like he was miscast. But other than that I loved the new season.

I enjoyed this season enough overall, but the first one was much better IMO. As much as I really like Anthony Mackie I honestly kind of missed Kinnaman in the role. I never thought I would say that either, because I was never a big fan of his anyways, but I thought he fit the role better. Angela Valdes was pretty good as the villain though and I still love being in this Blade Runner esque world which is why I'd be down for a Season 3.

Also, god damn is Simone Missick gorgeous.

Wow, some of you dudes really did binge right through it at as soon as it dropped, huh.

I am not sure how much I would enjoy anything that took away all my sleep, ha.

Just started this and already Anthony Mackie feels really miscast here. He just....doesnt fit this role, I cant put my finger on why, though.

Although i suppose a compelling argument could be made that given this show’s concept thats entirely the point lol

That's how I felt.

Kinnamon clearly put in the superior performance. This season so far has been a drag as well compared to the last imo

Yeah... I actually haven't finished it yet because... four eps in and nothing is grabbing me, and unfortunately for whatever reason it feels like Mackie is just going through the motions or something and there are other issues with the season I've seen so far that just feels like the producers didn't get the potential inherent in the concept.

Which is odd because season one was so very strong right out of the gate.

Yeah everything just feels off. It doesnt even have that schlocky b movie sex, nudity and violence either that season one did to pull you in. I stopped on ep 2, i think im done with this series.

You should continue when they bring in the only Kovacs it picks up mainly because from there he put the show on his back and carried every scene he was in.

Not a big Kinnaman fan so was really looking forward to Mackie in the role but... yeah. It's a definite miscast from what I've seen so far (two episodes).

Honestly, I loved Jihae in her brief stint as Kovacs. Kinda wish they had stuck with that!

That gives me some motivation to finish it if only because, yeah Joel was for sure the center of the show last season and was great in the role he played, Will Yun Lee was also really good and I definitely wanted to see more of him as Kovacs.

I've watched the first five episodes and they were... not good. Honestly it's hard to think of a worse sophomore slump; you can really feel the change in showrunners. I still don't know what the plot is or what everyone's motivations are and I've read all three books. It's kind of amazing how they took the narrative of books 2 & 3, smashed them together and churned out this mess of a season.

I don't understand why they made so many changes to the source material this time around. Season 1 was more or less faithful to the first book aside from a few major changes; most of the big alterations made sense, like giving Ortega a family and more screen time, or giving Kovacs a personal connection to Reilene. With the early introduction of Quellcrist it makes sense to jump ahead to her storyline from book 3, but the way they went about it is stupefying. Nothing in the season makes sense, and the smattering of book references are so jumbled as to be incoherent.

Now I'll admit a lot of my disappoint comes from the poor adaption of the material, but I'm just shocked by how terribly boring this season is. Even my brother who's never read doesn't like it, and he was a big fan of season 1.

I've watched the first 5 episodes and this is flat as hell. Harlan's World, the story, Mackie, and Poe are all just bland. Idk when I'll finish it.

Well it looks like we can all at least agree on Mackie definitely feeling miscast in the role, but luckily we don't have to worry about that next season if this show does end up getting renewed. Honestly, instead of getting another actor to play Kovacs I'd rather they just stick with Will Yun Lee and make him the central focus of Season 3.

I actually enjoyed his scenes the most out everyone else in Season 2 and you can tell that they definitely have more potential with his character.
