watched the 1st episode and was bored...... couldn't bring myself to watch other episodes.
Does it get better ?
I think the fact that the producers came out and addressed the "whitewashing" issue kind of quieted any backlash over that. And like you said, that's how it was in the book.
Anthony Mackie (Captain America, Detroit) has been cast as the lead Takeshi Kovacs, a role originated by Joel Kinnaman in Season 1. Behind the scenes, Alison Schapker is joining the series as executive producer and will serve as co-showrunner alongside creator/executive producer Laeta Kalogridis who was showrunner on Season 1 of the Skydance TV series.
The recasting of the Takeshi Kovacs role was expected. In the world of Altered Carbon, which is based on the science fiction novels by Richard K. Morgan, the journey of Takeshi Kovacs spans hundreds of years, many different bodies, and planets.
Because of the structure of the books, each taking place in a different time frame at a different location, Kinnaman, as well as the majority of the cast, had one-year deals. Kinnaman already has booked his next series, Amazons Hanna.
Mackie will be the new embodiment of Kovacs, as the series continues to delve into the themes of identity, mortality, and the human soul across longer periods of times and different worlds throughout the universe.
I'm glad they are going forward with it too though I also see why (even if I don't agree) they might have gone with Mackie instead to avoid another asian actor. They will almost certainly be using Will Yun Lee in flashbacks again and wanted someone different to play the role that was distinct from him.Awesome; glad its been renewed and Mackie is a great addition. Though its a bit disappointing tht they still didnt cast an Asian actor in the lead, given that Asian male actors are greatly underrepresented in films outside of Asia. Especially since Will Yun Lees Kovacs was arguably the best part of the first season. I liked Kinnaman too though and I hope he shows up for at least an episode or two as Ryker.

I also like they are right off the bat choosing a completely different actor from Kinnaman as it lets him be a Bond type in he literally can be anyone without any question as to why he looks different. He doesn't even have to be a male sleeve in future seasons if they choose to.
I liked this show. There was far too much sex/nudity, but the women looked great so I could get past it. Glad to hear it's getting a 2nd, but I wonder why they're not staying with Will Yun Lee. I thought he would be center seeing as that's how the show ended.
Set in the same universe as the Netflix-live-action sci-fi series — which is currently in production — Altered Carbon will explore new elements of the story mythology. The series comes from the animation studio, Anima and will be written by Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and Tsukasa Kondo.
