Altered Carbon

Then you'll be very happy

I'm about 3 episodes in aswell and I'm already hooked. Loving this so far and I honestly wasn't expecting too.

Binged the whole show.... Man... that was a good watch... and not just for the copious amounts of hot naked women.

Will wait a few days to say anything more to not spoil anyone
Does it have a satisfying ending? you know in case they don't renew it.

Never even heard of this until today. On the 3rd episode and loving it so far.

Oh damn, I forgot this already came out. Glad to hear people seem to be enjoying it so far.

Yeah. It wraps up the story and characters of season one, but sets up the next part of Taks journey.

I'm three episodes in and so far there doesn't seem to be anything special going on here. This might be down to the book, but the story's just a bunch of genre cliches, and none of the acting or character work stands out. Episode 3 in particular had some pretty ham-fisted and amateurish writing about how much rich people suck. The show's also got this weird thing for what it thinks are "reveals" that actually don't mean anything at all.

I'd also say the action and visuals are unremarkable, too. The look is standard cyberpunk, nothing new going on there. But I was expecting more from the action, especially given that Sapochnik directed the first episode (I'm not sure "pilot" is an accurate descriptor for Netflix shows). The fight scenes were very choppy and shoddily put together. It might've been choreographed and executed well by the actors & stuntmen, but the cinematography did them absolutely no favors.

The music was also disappointing, as usually cyberpunk media has good soundtracks. But I'm just not a fan of Jeff Russo and he didn't bring anything interesting to the show. It probably doesn't help that he seems to be scoring everything on TV at the moment (Altered Carbon, Counterpart, Waco, Star Trek: Discovery, Fargo, Legion, Power, Channel Zero); does this guy even sleep? The Ghost in the Shell film might've sucked but at least it had a great score.

And just a mind quibble: it was great to see Tahmoh Penikett in something again, but why the hell did they dub his voice?

All in all, I'll probably end up finishing it eventually but I'm in no rush. I actually watched Babylon 5's pilot immediately after watching this and I was amazed that a 25 year old show with a minuscule budget and a lot of bad acting was actually better than Netflix's supposed killer app.

On episode 2, i'm interested, but like Elayis said it doesnt seem "special" or have a unique hook to it. For me, though, the weakest point is Joel Kinneman. He seems miscast here, he's doing his best but, I dont know, something about Kinneman just doesn't fit this hardboiled, noir-ish character that he's supposed to play. He's fantastic on House of Cards but here he feels out of his element...so far. Perhaps he'll grow on me later.

That said, the show has charms, aeathetically, enough to keep me watching so thats a good thing.

I have not seen this yet, but I do know mexican actress Martha Higareda is in it. A bit of lame hollywood trivia for ya'll. She was originally suppose to be the love interest on the NWR movie Drive. That character was written for a latina. Mulligan used her clout to get the role, but if you go back and look at the kid playing her son and then reading the source material, it does feel like white washing. That role didn't really do much for Mulligan, so still feel like a minority should have benefited from that, but eh.

It's a shame she felt the need to use Botox.

It doesn't just feel like it, it's a pretty well-known instance of white-washing.

I'm enjoying this. Great concept.

I've watched two so far and I'm enjoying it. It's a nice change of pace from the Marvel stuff. :)

Watched the 1st two eps. I’m enjoying it, but I also agree with those saying there’s nothing special about it. It feels like a collection of genre tropes that doesn’t have a voice of its own (with some iffy acting thrown in). The genre it’s playing in just happens to be a fave of mine, so I don’t mind, lol.

It's honestly pretty silly that with all the technology that the world in this show posess;[BLACKOUT] I mean moving someones conscience into a completely new body, which can either be cloned or 3d-printed and all that. And yet, people (sleeves) still die from regular injuries and they also get scars. It doesn't really make sense.[/BLACKOUT]
Even so, I'm really enjoying it. Regarding Dimi though, [BLACKOUT]the actors are doing a terrible job making me believe it's the same person in all those different sleeves that he goes through.[/BLACKOUT]

Finished this last night and while it did run out of a bit of steam towards the end I really enjoyed it overall. I loved the world building and how it was similar to stuff we have seen before, but still its own thing. I've never been a big fan of Joel Kinneman, but he was very solid here and played the stoic badass pretty damn well. James Purefoy was great too and I liked how his character became more subtlety creepy and menacing as it went along.

Overall I enjoyed the show but I did not like the big twist midway into the season.

Takeshi's sister Reileen being alive and behind most of the mysteries was disappointing.

Felt like Matt Frewer was channeling a bit of his old Max Headroom character with his role.

I can see why the showrunner struggled to get the show made into a movie and made it into a TV show instead.

I enjoyed a lot of this series. Poe was a great character, and the central premise was very interesting. Sadly, it all gets very muddy from mid season onwards, as the story tries to throw in twists and turns that it doesn't really set up all that well.

I found the world building to be a bit lax, which spoiled things somewhat. I would have liked clearer definitions of some of the story's conceits, such as how the stacks function and how they came to be in existence. I can only presume they're saving this for future seasons, if they get made. Would have liked a better idea of how this universe functions socially and politically. It's obviously a galactic civilisation, and I would have liked to know more of how it was built and how it operated. Needlecasting is a great concept, but again, it felt a bit under-developed to me.

I'm fascinated by the idea of being able to have a main character played by multiple actors. In fact, I think that would have made for a more interesting and original premise.

The slavish devotion to Blade Runner got a bit much. There's nothing wrong with being heavily influenced, but when it starts to look exactly the same, it starts to stray into plagiarism territory.

Overall, it was quite enjoyable, but pretty rough around the edges. I will certainly watch another season if they make one.

Just finished this season and it was great. I hope there will be a second season I love the concept and would love to see where it goes next and if it goes to other worlds.

So, started watching the first episode after a friend suggested it, binged almost the whole thing in one night. Very happy with it, spreading the word, hope it gets a season 2.

Between the stunts, world building, and action... great new series. They got me.

How in the world did you miss the whole rich vs. poor plot point brought up almost every episode?

just finish watching this last night didn't think I was going like it but I did hope it get a second season and if it does will any characters from season 1 be in season 2 other then Takeshi Kovacs

Those things you are wondering about the world may be explored in the books. You should check them out.

I did not. I still have a hard time believing that regular people, the lower class that they are, basically have the same [BLACKOUT]medical care [/BLACKOUT]that our modern time has. I mean this is at least 250 years into the future. Well, I mean, they are somewhat more advanced. But not by much.
