Am I the only one who prefers the Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League version?

I have some very fond memories of the first year or so of that version of the League. :)I don't know where I would put it exactly in my top 3 favorite lineups/versions, but it is up there.

it was great because it seemed to be so "real worldish" they had REAL interactions that were 100% believable.
Yes, the DCU functions on a fundamentally "real worldish" level, doesn't it? ****, I saw Superman flying over Main Street in Metropolis just last week. And Batman totally busted the ******* who stole my computer.

Even if Guy Gardner was your favorite character you can't TELL ME you didnt crack up when batman knocked him out with one punch.
I didn't. I applauded.

This was a great run on JLA, it turned me into a JLA fan again, and gave me renewed interest in Blue Beetle and put Guy in a new light, this was a great run!

There run on Defenders was also pretty funny and good, they got the Hulk laid

All dumb humor was a bad thing for a League book. I'm all for books like Battle Pope and whatehaveyou, but not in the Justice League.

JLI wasn't much like Battlepope at all.

Which issue did J'onn fight off a zombie apocalypse?

Early on. They weren't zombies in the classic sense (rotting flesh and whatnot), but victims of a sentient virus that took control of their minds. Because of his constantly fluctuating cellular structure, J'onn, along with Nabu (who's noncorporeal) was one of the few remaining creatures on Earth that was self aware.

That's not what he meant and you know it. Just because a fictional universe has events and people that didn't happen/don't exist (they are fiction, you know), doesn't mean the people shouldn't act like real people.

The first JL Annual (I don't even think it was JLI yet)

My favorite run as well. It was so great to see super people act like real people. All the quirks and infighting made it absorbing reading.

I wish they collected more of Justice League International and some of the Justice League Europe stuff. Giffen did that too didn't he?

Yeah, it kinda does. Who the hell do you know that has even CONSIDERED dressing up like a leather bat, crawling on skyscrapers and fighting injustice? Can you imagine ANYONE truly being the same after discovering they came from a dead alien planet and had the power to fly, shoot lasers from their eyes, and breathe frost? You think someone from the mystical island of Themyscira is REALLY going to be similar to the rest of us? Superpowers would change a person.

No, it kind of doesn't.

Personally? None. But there actually are people who dress up in costumes and patrol their neighborhoods looking to help people in need. It's actually becoming a bit of a fad.

Actually, Superman's powers had been developing all his life. He new he had super powers long before he knew that he was from Krypton. In any event, yes, it would be a major adjustment, learning something about where you come from like that. But it wouldn't change who he had been up until that point, and while there would obviously be a pretty lengthy adjustment period, it wouldn't necessairily cause someone to cease acting like a human being. Of course, it depends on the person, as everyone reacts to big news differently.

I don't understand what you mean. Of course Diana comes from a different culture, and that is adressed quite a bit.

Superpowers would change a person.

That doesn't mean that they still wouldn't be people.

I'll be sure to let the police know.

If being real people means cracking wise instead of doing what needs to be done, running away so you can be "witty" some more with your buddy Booster, and not treating serious matters with the appropriate level of caution, then count me out of reality and humanity.

They probably already do.

I don't recall JLI being like that at all. Yes, Ted and Booster did their fair share of cracking wise, but they were doing what needed to be done aswell. One can make a few smartass jokes and still do their job. In fact, in the first issue with Booster in it, he saved the entire Justice League from a robotic assassin. And I certainly don't remember them failing to aproach serious matters cautiously. Yes, they were sometimes caught unaware, or found themselves in a situation more dire than they anticipated, but that's a standard in most action oriented fiction, and hardly an example of them not being cautious.
