Am I The Only One Who Thinks Steve Martin Is Totally Wrong For The Pink Panther?

Martin hasn't done a comedy that wasn't a big fat stinking piece of s#!t in about ten years.

he's a has-been and should just retire. specially if he keeps choosing his projects as badly as he has for the past few years...

i dunno about that, Jack... i really enjoyed Cheaper by the Dozen (though i haven't seen the sequel yet); and while i didn't care much for it, my wife really liked Bringing Down the House; Bowfinger, Prince of Egypt, and Sgt. Bilko were all decent (though not great), too, IMO... and if you go back to the early '90s, L.A. Story, Father of the Bride 1&2, Housesitter, and Mixed Nuts were all quality work... he's missed the mark his fair share of times, i'm sure, but i still like the vast majority of his work... ;)

To answer the question, no, you´re not. I remember someone said something brilliant about it... Problem is, Martin´´s Clouseau knows he´s in a comedy. Sellers´Clouseau never knows it, he acts like he´s the most serious cop who´s ever lived, that´s why he´s so funny.

as I said, he hasn't done anything worthwhile in about ten years. before that, he was still making some good movies from time to time.

but from Sgt. Bilko on it was all downhill. Pink Panther and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 were just the cherry on top of a turd sundae.

and sorry to say, but if you not only liked Pink Panther but also Cheaper by the Dozen, you have horrible taste.

My problem with remaking classic characters with new actors, is they never have the balls to try and do something different with the character and usally become lame charcitures of the originals... See the Producers for a great example of this... I have not yet seen the new Pink Panther.

well i'm sorry you feel that way, but everyone's entitled to their opinion... i've been a Steve Martin fan for years, and i guess if i can find something to appreciate in The Man with Two Brains, i can find something to like about almost anything... ;)

i'm not joking, though, when i say i nearly fell out of my seat laughing the first time i saw the new Pink Panther movie, and while the film had plenty of room for improvement, i admit, anything that can make me laugh that frequently and that hard is A-OK in my book! as a matter of fact, this was the one and only film that i've ever actually gone back to see more than once while it was still in theaters, which says a lot to me!

I couldn't stand the PP the old movies are fantastic this movie was not. Steve Martin hasn't been funny sense the jerk and im angry this movie made money hopefully there won't be another one.

the movie was okay. However, I found Martin's performance as Clouseau, at times, annoying.

i thought martin was funny . it worked for me . not really a clouseau purist and never saw the original so it didnt bother me .

Steve Martin is set to play Peter Sellars role in a new Pink Panther movie. I like Steve Martin, but I can't say enough of how totally wrong he is for this part.

even though this question was asked about 4 years ago, I would like to give my wise ass two cents

you probably are the only person who cares that he is in the pink panther

So...here's what I thought 4 years ago when I first heard this.....My thoughts were that Steve Martin was wrong for Clouseau....I thought the perfect actor for the Part would be Kevin Kline......and then low and behold they cast him in there.....but I still feel that he should have been the inspector.

three people i can think of that would have done well
Geoffrey Rush
Sacha Baron Cohen
Johnny Depp

Well then you're an Idiot......Rush is the ony decent choice on that list but he's too old.

well i picked 3 character actors, and thats what a Pink Panther movie needs. Sellers was a character actor

If it was my choice, I'd cast in the role. Who? That's right, NO ONE, because I wouldn't have remade the ****ing movie in the first place!

Yup pretty much.

I also thought Kline was terrible in the movie as Dreyfus. He's no Herbert Lom. Herbert Lom doesn't get enough respect as Clouseau's British foil.

Steven Martin is evidently a grade-a isiot. I mean who willing puts themselves up for trying to redo the most well known and iconic roles of Peter Sellers (The aforemntioned Pink Panther bit) and Phil Silvers (Sgt. Bilko). I mean seriously what idiot comedian would ever belive they could top either of those two greats. I mean Sellers was classic and Phil Silvers was so good a cartoon cat even imitated him. Don`t you try and tell me Top Cat wasn`t a blatant Bilko ripoff. lol.

i just had to laugh at that! :woot:

Aren't they filming a sequel right now?
they sure are! with John Cleese taking over for Kevin Kline as Dreyfus, and co-starring Alfred Molina, Andy Garcia, and Aishwarya Rai!

i, for one, am excited! :word:

coincidentally, you can keep up with the latest news about the sequel (or put in your two cents about any of the Panther films or cartoons) at the link in my sig... :cwink:
