AMC orders 'Preacher' pilot.

I like Cooper but he doesn't strike me as a Jesse type. Unless there's something to him we haven't seen yet.

Mullet or bust.

I don't get the point of this character. Tulip and Cassidy are there to be Jesse's right hands. If they're talking about his stint in Annville, the character's description sort of goes against the idea of Jesse's one man stand against a den of sin. IMO she's there just to introduce a needless emotional pretext to Jesse's quest when Genesis comes calling.

Cooper seems like a great pick to me still even when it was just a rumor. The "original female character" addition sounds annoying, redundant and pointless to me on the surface. Sounds like a forced "We gotta get more hot females on the screen" deal. Hope it is a very minor role.

Same here. Jesse was a beaten man during his time as a preacher. He hated everyone in his congregation and eventually flipped out on them after a night of drinking. The next day Genesis arrived and they were obliterated.

I get they're trying to expand on them a little bit but I honestly don't see the point of the character in the long term. Once they hit the road there's not going to be room for a single mother of 3. It seems like a waste of good casting.

Poor Lucy Griffiths. She seems to be the go-to girl for "unnecessary character in Vertigo adaptation that will probably be written out of the show by episode 2."

I hope that's not the case. Honestly, she would have been a perfect fit for Amy, Tulip's friend that used to run with her and Jesse back when they were younger.

It's a shame, because she actually is a good actress. I hope that she at least has her real accent in this.

We have Jesse Custer! @dominiccoop is gonna save our souls. #Preacher

Good casting is good. :jd:

I hope not. :csad:

What's this show's tagline going to be? "No Americans Allowed"?

The announced cast for AMC's "Preacher" pilot has grown once again. Deadline has word that Elizabeth Perkins has been cast in the role of lead character Jesse Custer's mother, Vyla Quinncannon -- which would be a name change from the source material, as Jesse's mother was Christina Custer in the comic books by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

Here's the description of Vyla Quinncannon: "A genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville. Ambitious, strong-willed and terrifying, Vyla shares a past with Jesse’s father which gives her a singular hold over Jesse."

This news comes the same day as official confirmation that Dominic Cooper, rumored as the frontrunner for weeks, has been cast as the show's lead. The cast also includes Ruth Negga as Jesse's ex-girlfriend Tulip, Joseph Gilgun as his vampire friend Cassidy, Ian Colletti as Arseface and Lucy Griffiths as Emily, a character created for the TV show.

Seth Rogen, his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg and "Breaking Bad" alum Sam Catlin developed "Preacher" for AMC, based on the seminal DC Comics/Vertigo series and with a pilot written by Catlin.

I've been buying the paperback reprints of the series from the last year or so, six volumes total. Amazon gave me the last 3 the same day Cooper was announced. Coincidence? I mean, yeah. But a neat one.

Um... What??

I'm with you, man. This production is becoming more and more INO as more news comes out.

I have no idea why they are deviating so far from the source material. So now Jessie's mom is basically Odin Quincannon....? WTF for?

Quincannon? It's been a while since I read Preacher but Quincannon? THE MEAT****ER? He's his grandson now? If they have Granma the same as the books then Jesse has an even more ****ed up family tree than even his inbred cyclops best friend.

Speaking of which, I'd love to see him in the show.

I love the books, read them a dozen times easy, and I really want this series to be great. I am, as always, reserving judgement until I see a trailer, at the very least. All that said, it is becoming increasingly difficult to not think this show is going so far sideways by the time they're done we'll be wondering why they bothered using the comic books as a source to begin with. After a certain point you may as well just create an original property that's not associated with anything else.

Still, I will wait. I will not condemn the TV series, nor praise it. But with each new slice of information...it isn't looking terribly promising.

I find it weird that you guys are already freaking about little character changes when I fully expected there to be some. I have feeling people are going to be even more pissed off if they already are. Stating the already obvious but it IS a hard R rated comic series being adapted for AMC.

This isn't "little character changes". We're talking about a complete reimagining of characters here.
