AMC orders 'Preacher' pilot.

I'll be cautiously looking forward to see how they'll be handling this. I'm just worried about some kind of future behind the scenes drama but even then, TWD manages to right itself despite of that.

I said it once before and I will say it again. Rogen being involved is not the problem at all. He is obviously a huge fan otherwise he wouldn't be doing it. It being developed for AMC though...that is what worries me.

Hey, if HBO was too ***** to handle it in the first place... :o

Ennis sounds pleased at this development. For the meantime, so am I.

That and [BLACKOUT]The Grail were planning their man-made apocalypse to coincide with the year 2000[/BLACKOUT]. But neither is a big deal that can't be tweaked slightly for modern times.

Yeah, the apocalypse can be done at any time.

The Grail's plans never really meant anything at the end of the book anyway. Starr's mad thirst for revenge derailed all of those plans with a significant amount of issues left in the book. It all came down to 2 friends fighting it out over their problems with each other. The Saint, Grail and God were all just loose ends to tie up at that point.

It seemed right up HBO's alley...I have no idea why they turned it down. Oh well. I hope that AMC releases Unrated cuts of the episodes on Blu-ray & DVD because there is a lot that is going to have to be cut/censored.

After crafting the bible for a potential series, HBO -- under new executives -- passed on the project. The network, Johnson said, thought Preacher was "too dark and too violent and too controversial."
Says the network that now airs Game of Thrones. :funny:

Yeah I know what they said the reason was but I replied with exactly what you just said. This is coming from the place that is running Game of Thrones which contains nudity, incest, rape, murder, gore, sex, etc. etc.....lol. So it might have been something else going on that they didn't want to publicly say but like I said oh well...AMC now.

Beyond excited about this.
Can't ****ing wait.
Really excited for when casting news starts coming in.

I saw somebody suggest Clancy Brown for the saint of killers....that would be so perfect

AMC gets away with alot in shows like breaking bad and TWD,
So I'm not worried about that.

Well, look at it this way. Game of Thrones is a completely fictional thing, fictional stories, fictional world, fictional people, etc. But Preacher deals with some straight up controversial religious views on things, and that is something that, unfortunately, many of the overly religious types might get quite up in arms about.

That's true. But if any network shouldn't care about that kind of reaction, it's HBO.

One thing is for sure, the controversy is bound to be outstanding to watch. Those idiots that always make a fuss whenever a same sex couple appears on their TV screens will be like ".... what were we even complaining about?!"

Definitely. Like I said earlier in the thread, Preacher was never really about religion, it was about friendship.

Yes they do but when it boils down to it what they get away with is a hard PG-13. While Breaking Bad is an amazing show and probably ranks up there as one of the greatest ever you can't help but watch it and think "Wow. If only this show was allowed to go that little extra and not be restricted by any rules it would be even closer to perfection."

Also I don't care how much AMC is able to get away with now. Seriously go back to a character like Jesus DeSade or look up examples online concerning that character and tell me how that character will not be completely neutered for AMC.

Soooo one of the main characters is a vampire...so...yeah....

I never once thought that. You don't have to be as extreme as possible to achieve greatness.

That said, if you're adapting something that's already extreme...

I'm interested in seeing this. I enjoyed the books and read them several times. I had the first volume for years and never got the second one until my old roommate read it and demanded we get the others, so we wound up getting a few volumes each payday until we had them all. He'd watch this as well.

Maybe it is a personal bias and living in an area where I am actually accustomed to drug addicts. Let's just say I always thought the language Jesse and his friends had or even a character like Tuco was very tame just as one example.

But yes Preacher has some very NC-17 moments which I am not eager to see how they are handled.

I think that there's many things that they just wouldn't do at all. Even for the comics it was incredibly graphic.

I don't think I'll be able to watch it if they have that scene from the first volume with Arseface and his dad in the ambulance. 'Everything's gonna be all right now!' That's just the worst thing they could have possibly done to him.

I'd like to see if the go all the way on what happens to Starr and his constant stream of abuse to his minions.

Other than nudity, what else could Breaking Bad have done? They swore, they were as violent as they wanted to be -I don't see what difference a less stringent rating would have made.

I'm not worried about PG-13 effecting Preacher. I mean, other than lightening up the language here and there and not showing boobs, there's not really anything that can't be done. When you consider what some of the more 'tame' shows, CSI, Law and Order, can get away with in terms of subject matter, even characters like Jesus De Sade won't be restricted.

If anything they'll be toning down Ennis' usual juvenile humor. I like the guy but at times he's like a talented Mark Millar.

Well Breaking Bad is not the best comparison to get the point across. It was just the best comparison I could make considering it is the show that pushed the limits the most on AMC. Maybe a better example would be Game of Thrones. If it were on AMC it would still be a great show yes? But it would be neutered. No arguing that.

Well I would post a screencap from a page from Preacher showing a single scene concerning Jesus DeSade that would beg to differ that opinion but ironically I would probably be banned or suspended from here if I did. :cwink:

Hey don't get me wrong. I said AMC is probably the best network for the show outside of a pay channel like HBO or Showtime. AMC is pretty much HBO-lite. The show could still be amazing...BUT...it will be a much tamer version in comparison to the comic which is personally disappointing for me considering the controversial aspects of the series are a big part of why I love it.

Arguing it? No, there's no arguing Game of Thrones would be toned down on AMC...but in what way? Other than the nudity, what couldn't AMC do?

No need to post a picture, just hint at it or something. I've read Preacher many times, every panel is practically burned into my brain :woot:

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you that AMC may have to pull back on the throttle, but how much they'll pull back is where we seem to differ. I don't think they'll be toning it down quite as much as you do. Then again, we won't know anything until the show airs...which, and this we both agree on completely, is very exciting!

The sex scene at the very end of the first episode which establishes the shocking revelation of incest, the scene of King Joffrey gloating while Ned's head is resting on a stick, the scene involving the charred corpses of children, etc. etc....really? Do I need to recap the numerous graphic moments in the show that help make it so intense that wouldn't be possible to show on AMC?

The stuff with Jesus DeSade has a lot of perverse and graphic language with nudity. This is the kind of stuff that will be hurt by the watering down of it for AMC.

Well I am excited...to a point. Regardless of what some others may think I believe Rogen is going to be good for the project. But potentially seeing something I love for it's edginess, cynicism, and graphic nature watered down makes me worried.

I think the inevitable casting news coming this year will definitely be an indicator on where my hopes should be. Let's just say when the rumored movie was in the works and they had Shia Labeouf rumored for Arseface I was ecstatic when it was canceled.

I imagine Fox news will probably have their usual tantrum about Preacher because they can't deal with satire especially in regards to Christianity.

Jesus secretly not dying, marrying Mary Magdalene and their descendants being inbred poop slinging idiot isn't going to go down well in the bible belt.
