AMC orders 'Preacher' pilot.

The sex scene at the very end of the first episode which establishes the shocking revelation of incest, the scene of King Joffrey gloating while Ned's head is resting on a stick, the scene involving the charred corpses of children, etc. etc....really? Do I need to recap the numerous graphic moments in the show that help make it so intense that wouldn't be possible to show on AMC?

The stuff with Jesus DeSade has a lot of perverse and graphic language with nudity. This is the kind of stuff that will be hurt by the watering down of it for AMC.

Well I am excited...to a point. Regardless of what some others may think I believe Rogen is going to be good for the project. But potentially seeing something I love for it's edginess, cynicism, and graphic nature watered down makes me worried.

I think the inevitable casting news coming this year will definitely be an indicator on where my hopes should be. Let's just say when the rumored movie was in the works and they had Shia Labeouf rumored for Arseface I was ecstatic when it was canceled.

Hmm. I agree with you to an extent, perhaps they won't directly show certain things (although most of the Game of Thrones examples you gave, I believe they would- just think of the violence they already show in The Walking Dead) but that doesn't mean AMC can't depict them. No, the orgy at De Sade's won't have full on nudity nor (probably) the heavy language, but there's no reason they can't still have the scene. I mean heck, CSI's depicted an orgy and outright shown at least one dead baby before.

That said, if I understand correctly what you're saying, part of the main reason you loved Preacher was because they showed all that stuff, the nudity, the same amount of swearing. AMC will back off on those areas to some degree (though probably not the violence), no doubt. Personally that doesn't bother me, Preacher's graphic nature was highly entertaining, but not why I loved the series and I don't think it's necessary to tell the story or stay true to the characters -more of an added bonus. Will that much really be lost if we don't see Tulip naked?

Regarding Seth Rogen, people seem to flip out about his involvement for the same reason they flip out about anyone being involved in anything that doesn't mesh with their idea of who that person is. Heath Ledger playing the Joker? Good lord, we're going to get a laid back California Surfer Joker! Seth Rogen is involved with Preacher? It's all going to be jokes about weed! I'm not worried, he seems like an intelligent fellow and from what little I've read, a genuine fan of the series, which is encouraging.

Damn, after reading up about this a bit I REALLY wanna check out some of the trades. This sounds ****ing awesome

Well I hope you have a strong stomach. **** get weird and totally ****ed up. Hilariously dark humor though.

I imagine Fox news will probably have their usual tantrum about Preacher because they can't deal with satire especially in regards to Christianity.

Jesus secretly not dying, marrying Mary Magdalene and their descendants being inbred poop slinging idiot isn't going to go down well in the bible belt.

I'm so excited for that

I'm so excited about this series. I have high hopes for this, and Constantine, and GPD (???) and the Netflix Defenders and The Flash. These are good times.

I could give a s**t less about what Fox "News" would think about this show.

It's gonna be a massive ****storm when they get to showing that. It's going to be AMAZING!

It's gonna be amaze-balls. :o

Me and my old roommate still make jokes about idiots we see by saying "Humper de doo Changed it into wine."

But who shall play the most holy Allfather?

Yeah but who would be good for him?

"Fetch me a bucket." :barf:

I'm still waiting to see who they are considering for the main characters at this point to even see the direction they are taking it. Certainly with Rogen being involved James Franco for Custer seems like a possibility.

I think James Marsden would make a good Jesse.

He was supposed to be Jesse in one of the many adaptations they had planned, like, a decade ago.

I think James Marsden would make a good Jesse.

Well you do know that when they were going to make the film years back he was actually set to play Jesse Custer. Thank god that didn't happen though I think that is back when they were aiming for a PG-13 rating and Preacher would be near impossible work as a film anyways.

I'd be fine with unknowns for Jessie and Tulip, actors that looks mid to late 20's. Cassidy could be played by someone older.....maybe someone in their 40's.

From what I remember Jesse was in his 30's in the comics no?

Jesse was in his early/mid twenties, according to the blurb on the back of the TPBs. Makes sense, born in the early 70s, adventuring around in the 90s. (perhaps another reason the show should be set in the 90s -his father's Vietnam timeline)

Regarding Marsden, I didn't know the details but I did know someone at some point a gillion years ago had mentioned his name. That said, I'd have to agree with runawayboulder completely, unknowns is definitely the way to go.

Anybody else notice the couple shots of Preacher comics in last nite's episode of Comic Book Men? No way that's a coincidence

Evan Goldberg Talks Preacher TV Series

Following several rumors, it was confirmed last month that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg would be bringing Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's classic comic title "Preacher" to the small screen in a new AMC TV series. Speaking with Collider in a recent interview, Goldberg laid out his hopes for the series and their desire to not change very much from the source material.

"We just had a meeting with AMC and Garth Ennis, who's the writer, and we all kind of seemed to agree that we're going to stay as true to the comic as we can. We need to change some stuff but we're not going to change much, I hope. We're just going to do a little more of the preamble instead of doing flashbacks and restructure how we dole out the information a little, but we're going to do the same characters, same story, same ending. We're going try to stick to Preacher as best we can. We're making it with Sam Catlin who did Breaking Bad, and so he might tell me I'm wrong about all of this and that the real way to do it is different because he's much smarter and better at all this than I am. But we're going try to stick to what it is as best we can."

There have been several attempts in the past to adapt "Preacher," though they've all mostly been in the form of a feature film. Goldberg explained why he thinks it's best to go in for the long haul with a series saying:

"We're beyond excited, we've tried to make it for 10 years. The big difference is everyone else tried to make it a movie and it shouldn't be a movie. It should be an AMC show, that's the proper way for it to get done… It's too big; you can't do that in a movie. It's just too big. You've gotta learn the characters, it's all about a love triangle and you need to grow with them and see the woman swayed one way or the other, and in a movie you just can't accomplish all that."

Created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, "Preacher" tells the story of a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher, teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire, set out on a journey across America to find God — who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven — and hold him accountable for his negligence.

"Breaking Bad" producer Sam Catlin will be the series' showrunner and will also executive produce alongside Rogen, Goldberg, Vivian Cannon, Ken Levin, Ori Marmur, Neal Moritz and Jason Netter.

I. Need. News.

Something during SDCC, maybe?

Wouldnt mind James Marsden, who was gonna play Jesse in the movie, starring in this

I'll say it again, I think Jack Huston would be PERFECT as Jesse. That dude can seriously act.
