AMC orders 'Preacher' pilot.

Been reading through the comics, up to about issue 10 now. Loving it. It's what Supernatural should have been or something. Hope they really go balls out with it on AMC.

Deadwood alum W. Earl Brown is the latest regular cast addition to AMC’s drama pilot Preacher, based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic. Brown will play a character from the comic in the project, from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, Sony TV and AMC Studios, which centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a smallamclogo4__140305172543-275x125__140516202144 Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God. Brown will play Sheriff Hugo Root, the mean-hearted father of Eugene Root aka Arseface (Ian Colletti), a flinty-eyed, conspiracy-credulous redneck who is not a fool and has a vulnerability to him. Lucy Griffiths also co-stars.

Arseface is in this? Awesome, I was wondering if they'd keep him. I still love his line "EVERYTHING'S GONNA BE ALRIGHT!!!" *BLAM*

It's just such perfect comedic timing when I first read it I had to put down the book because I was laughing so hard I was crying.

Damn it, I'm on issue 18 now and Arseface still hasn't shown back up. It's been great, though. Seriously loving this book.

That's too damn long!!

TBH he's not a major character in the comics. His role on the TV sounds to be a lot larger than what it was in the book. He was only in the initial arc, then returned when Jesse and co headed to New Orleans before becoming a rock star. He only made a few more appearances later on that were one and done scenes. He had no more bearing on where the book was heading. I think Ennis just loved writing the character and would go back to him every now and again.

That, kinda sucks. I thought he ended up becoming a part of the team, so to speak. Oh well, this book is still freakin' great regardless.

I wonder if they'll whitewash Arseface's culpability in his misshapen state and lay the blame squarely on his father. I've always loved that scene where his friend's sister lays onto him for what they did to themselves.

Areseface showed back up in 29. I'm on 35 now. It's really gotten on my nerves what they're doing with Cassidy. I loved the character and now he's tryna break him off a piece of Tulip behind Jesse's back? Really do not like it at all, guess they had to provide some conflict between the main characters, though. If this does in fact go a number of seasons, I really can not wait to see Herr Starr and Allfather come in. I am a little worried about what they will be able to get away with, though. Every other word in this f this and f that.

In regards to Cassidy, you ain't seen nothing yet. The real juicy stuff happens more on the back end of the series but it's pretty f-ed up.

And, totally comes around to give us a fantastic story. It's unexpected and jarring on the first read, but the pay off is excellent.

Yeah, those origin issues of Tulip and Cassidy were some of my favorite issues at that time. Tulip's was particularly heartbreaking but Cassidy's was flat out disturbing. All the while in the background, Ennis started putting the pieces in place for the final run.

Jessie's brief reunion with Cassidy in NYC was a very exciting moment. The wait between that last panel when Cass showed up at Amy's door until the following month was agonizing.

Lucas Neff from Raising Hope and The Good Dinosaur posted a picture of the table read script cover on his Instagram. So I assume he's in this as well.

The part where Jesse stuns everyone by stopping Cassidy's punch cold was riveting.

I wonder if they'll have the balls to go down that rabbit hole with Cassidy though, especially if he completely takes off Daryl Dixon-style.

I'm at 39 now. Herr Starr getting captured by cannibals is just too great. I love seeing this dude just get put through hell.

Just finished the series. God damn. It felt a bit rushed but man, it was close to perfect. Every character got great resolution and while the last couple pages left me wanting more, especially to see some of the characters reunite after all that happened but, god damn. I teared up bad at the end of issue 65. Ain't even gonna front about it.

The series feeling rushed probably had more to do with you reading half of it in two days :oldrazz:

Those last pages do get you right in the feels!

I always hoped that one day Ennis would bring them all back for a one shot. I'm surprised it never happened yet.

It would be great to see Jesse and Tulip years down the line with a family possibly living in Salvation with his mom and by some twist of fate running into a now human Cassidy again. I think it would be great since Jesse and Tulip were unaware of Cassidy's deal with God to let him live. I'd love to see Ennis examine the characters years later since the book ended.

See, that's what I'm saying! It's crazy there has never been anything. These characters were just too damn good for us to never see them reunite. Damn it, the Cassidy stuff hit me in the feels like nothing else.

It was the whole last few issues for me. Just, wow. As for the feeling rushed part, I think it felt that way because you almost feel like there should have been more ground to cover before the big showdown and the end kind of subverted expectations totally because, in the end, it was more about Jesse and Cassidy and their relationship with each other and how they had changed each other more than it ever was about the bigger picture with God and Genesis. At least, that's how it felt for me. Wasn't really expecting it to all go down like that but, when it did, it was just so perfect. I want more, damn it. :csad:

I agree completely. The story was always more about friendship than it was God and the big quest. Ennis is a master of creating meaningful relationships between characters (although I felt The Boys left a lot to be desired)

As for revisiting the characters, I guess it's possible -Ennis did write new Hitman stories after it finished- but I'm happy with Preacher remaining as it is. I feel like we won't ever see anymore of Jesse and co, but if we did at least we know Ennis wouldn't muck it up.

It's not like, things didn't feel unresolved. That's why I'm so worried about this show now, the story as is in the comics was just near perfect the way it was and the way everything came full circle. It's just hard when you're on that last couple pages not to want Jesse to find out about Cassidy's deal. I'm about to tear up just thinking about it still haha, even through all the juvenile crudeness of everything it was still just masterful storytelling and the characters were just so incredibly well developed. It's just hard not to want to see more of it.
