AMC orders 'Preacher' pilot.

I'm hoping they have subtitles for Arseface.

I'm actually kind of hoping they don't.

In the comic, barely anyone understood what the hell he was saying. That's what made his time as a mega rockstar so comical. If other people (except Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy) don't understand what he's saying along with the audience, it could work well when the main characters relay it for him. It could make the audience rely on the dialogue more and be more attentive overall. At least that's how I would look at it.

That would be fine too. I'm mainly just hoping they don't make him speak clearly enough that he's easily understood by all.

I was thinking earlier today that they should do subtitles, it would actually accomplish what the comic did on screen.

AMC was the worst possible thing to happen to Preacher. This is a roadtrip comic and AMC has them spending the entire season in Jesse's hometown. Reminds me of AMC forcing Walking Dead to spend the whole 2nd season on that god awful farm due to cheapness.

Language is another issue. Preacher without f bombs just feels so very very wrong.

I'm beginning to understand the rationale behind having the entire first season on Texas.

If you look at the entire comic run, the NYC Si arc and the Jesus DeSade arc are not necessary to the story. Jesse's first encounter with Starr and The Grail can easily be changed to flow better on the show. The only important thing to come out of the Si arc was the first hint of where Cassidy goes as a character but they can still cover that with the New Orleans stuff which is much more important to Cassidy's past.

So I'd say the first season starts in Texas then ends with the All in the Family story culminating in them hitting the road at the end of S1.

I'm hoping we see DeSade in some capacity, although I'll agree the business with Si could be skipped over entirely.

R.I.P. roadtrip story.

I see some action movies(for fight scenes), Westerns(obviously an influence on the Preacher comic) and some small town dramas. Pretty much confirms that AMC has no intention of this show ever leaving Texas.

Where's Wild at Heart of True Romance? Those two are, by far, the closest thing resembling the Preacher comic(violent road trip love story full of pop culture references). True Romance even has the protagonist losing an eye and talking to his imaginary role model for guidance.

It literally does not confirm anything. You're leaping to conclusions with tremendous effort. There are so few details at this stage it's impossible to tell where the show might go beyond the pilot episode, and a stack of DVDs Seth Rogen was watching six months ago certainly doesn't count as proof of anything.

If Kevin Durand ever gets cast as Jody, I'm going to do a backflip off planet Earth and float away into space.

Technically I would classify True Grit and 3:10 to Yuma as being road trip type films. Both contain groups of people traveling together over long distances with a goal to achieve.

Thats the farthest I've seen anybody reach here, and I've seen people reach pretty far.

I seem to recall one character in particular bringing down a chopper.

I always hoped he'd be played by William Fitchner.

EDIT: ...who instead is busy filming Ninja Turtles 2. *sobs*

They haven't named an actor for the Saint of Killers yet, have they?
