An absolutely epic marijuana rant

And he doesn't even touch the hundreds of medical and industrial uses for weed and hemp.

Whenever I bring this up, or see it brought up, in an area of public discourse such as this, the consensus is usually that weed should be legal.

So what is it?

What's wrong with politicians?

Because it wouldn't surprise me if they DO actually make money off the illegal drug trade.

They get paid off by big alcohol and big pharma. Plus they're obligated to seem pro-family and pro-police or get slammed when it's time to get re-elected.

62% of Americans support legal medical marijuana and it's only a matter of time before the vast majority support legalization for recreational marijuana.

It's so crazy that its taking this much time to get it done.

If you look at the chart it's obvious that Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No", DARE and possibly the crack epidemic in the 80's set back marijuana legalization a decade or two.

I agree with everything he said, but I wouldn't really call it "epic", I've heard every single one of those exact same arguments for years.

What about how much prisons, court systems, police, etc get from money used for the Drug War?

Without the Drug War you don't need to finance the extreme size of the prison system and police force.

Bingo! You are so right, brother. This is the prison-industrial complex...and it's the modern day answer to Jim Crow. Nothing allows them to lock up more black men than the War on Drugs. I think there is a connection between the War on Drugs and the assault on the middle and working classes, in this country. The WoD came about around the same time that the Reaganomics/neo-liberal/"free market" economics ideology began to rise to primacy. I think that the powers that be decided it would be best for as many poor and lower middle class young men as possible to be locked up rather than be on the streets to be angry and cause trouble over the massive transfer of wealth to the top we have seen.

Honestly, I wish marijuana was legal just because I like it and I don't want to have to keep an eye out for police or nosy upstanding citizens.

Marijuana should be banned. Along with smoking nicotine.
Hell, alcohol should be banned. Look at how much pain and suffering thats caused.

Or we can respect state rights and everone like you can end up is some small, vice-free town in Utah, alone and miserable.

I actually am beginning to think that you post the contrary to opinion to what others are saying on the forum in order to argue for the sake of it.

13 years isn't long term. Culture and generations did not change within that time.
The consumption of alcohol has persisted for thousands of years. What makes you think a law would do anything? Making it illegal would just increase the number of imprisonments in our country.
