Sci-Fi 'Animorphs' movie in development

Maybe this will get traction and enter production.

I was today years old when I found out this was even a thing.

Animorphs would be better as a Netflix show but I'm all for it.

About time! Here's hoping they dont water it down and keep it at or above the level of the tv show.

I don't know how they will keep things at a reasonable budget if "The Invasion" gets made and starts a franchise. It would probably be $125M-150M proper for decent VFX for the aliens and morphing sequences. And it would just grow for subsequent sequels.

The book series is 54 regular novels, plus the Megamorphs, Andalite/Hork-Bajir/Ellimist Chronicles, and Alternamorphs.

Its been over 20 years since I read the books. What were some of the transformations? Could you please refresh my memory.

The same for me. Sheesh. Lol.

But I distinctly remember Rachel’s grizzly and elephant morphs because she loved to fight. Jake was always a tiger and Cassie was always either a horse or a wolf. I’m drawn a blank after that.

Thank you.

Oh man. I remember going into Walden's bookstore in the mall and eagerly awaiting the next book. I gave away most of the books but kept a few. I never watched the series with Shawn Ashmore.

Marco's preferred battle morph was a silverback gorilla or wolf. Tobias's favorite battle morph (after getting his morphing ability back) was usually Hork-Bajir or Andalite.

I'm wary of how this adaptation will go having seen what happened to Artemis Fowl but given that the authors who have been active on social media for years and would be very in tune with the fans at this point seem to give this their blessing on this, I'm willing to give this a chance. Maybe Animorphs might be the thing that could jumpstart YA books again.

Ideally, this should have went the Stranger Things route.

It sure was. And he always had jokes. And then Ax was always just in his Andalite form.

Seriously with the right team and with the mythology this series built, they could be on to something.

Those were the days. Never left the mall without an Animorphs and Goosebumps combo.

My brother had all the mainline books. And I kind of borrowed them from him. I remember I stopped reading goosebumps a few years before they ended, but I still had a big collection. Kind of sad now that I sold them.

YA books have not gone anywhere. Granted, the big ones tend to be a bit more teen oriented, but YA novels are still big business. They just tend to be smaller, more contained stories.

Marco's banter with Rachel was hilarious. Even when the quality slipped during some of the ghostwritten books, their banter was a constant highlight.

I am curious if Feig makes "The Invasion" and it becomes a hit -- how will they condense the storyline? I assume they'll work with K.A. Applegate to work at condensing the book narrative into a workable franchise one.

I'm thinking best case scenario this is a Jack Black Goosebumps level success that can squeeze out a sequel or two. But I still stand by what I said earlier in this thread: If audiences didn't show up for Power Rangers (2017), which is a franchise that has a much larger fanbase than Animorphs, I can't see this standing a chance.

Pretty exciting news! Not sure if they can cram all of the material into a trilogy but we'll see.

That's not really comparable. Some fans didn't like how much was updated and changed in the 2017 movie -- and didn't capture the spirit of the show.

And comparing it to the childish silliness of the Goosebumps movies is rather premature, no? People are going to compare the movie to the 1990s Nickelodeon series, which didn't have the budget to do the books justice.

We'll probably get Bisexual Marco at least. Maybe Andalites are genderfluid, which kinda makes sense. Same with Yeerks.

Edit: Yup, Michael Grant pretty much confirmed Bisexual Marco

Aw yis Applegate coming to take the unproblematic throne back from Rowling.

really hope this happens, I loved the animorphs. I hope they don’t save Ax for a sequel because he was my fave even though he would be a very good sweetener as an after credits sequence
