Horror Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire | AMC

Now that you mention it I do recall Louis still being derogatory towards Lestat at the point of the first interview, referring to him having twigs in his hair....or maybe that was Daniel's recollection of the first interview. Now I feel like both of them in my confusion. :oldrazz:
They played the tapes in episode 3 or 4 and Louis's words about Lestat were straight out of the book and very derogatory towards him. Daniel challenged Louis about which version was true, the previous one calling Lestat and unfeeling cretin or the new one portraying him as a soulful artist and star-crossed lover.

But still

There could be the possibility that Lestat possessed Rashid's body, with Louis being none the wiser about it. But again I haven't read 'Body Thief' book to know more about how it works in the Anne Rice world.
Been a while since I read the book but

Lestat couldn’t take other people’s bodies. The villain of the novel was the one doing all the body hopping and Lestat was just his victim.

After an overall marvelous first year, the writers made some choices in that season finale episode that put a bad taste in my mouth.

And again without any spoilers, Louis is the most frustrating character, no one throws shade as effectively as Daniel Molloy and Claudia is the only one with a brain LOL.

I'm okay with it because we really don't know what changes are real and which are not right now. Armand is a master of the mind gift in the books and it was pretty clear to me this episode that Louis' memories, mind, etc. are all being heavily manipulated. I don't think we can truly judge the potential "changes" until we see how things shake out next season.

I get that some will be upset about Armand not resembling his depiction in the books, but that was all out the window when we got a black Louis and Claudia. I think Rashid's slight, youthful appearance is much more reflective of the literary Armand than Banderas despite the darker complexion.

You might have a point about Louis being manipulated, but at the same time, it could just be him talking out of both sides of his mouth like he has been doing the whole season. You should've seen how hard I rolled my eyes when he introduced Armand as 'the love of his life', yet the whole time you've been reminiscing with fondness for Lestat. Then how could you still be with the vampire that killed your daughter back in Europe and you're going on the whole time about how you failed her, and you're still shacked up with him.

But as far as them race swapping Armand, that doesn't bother me at all (I'm sure it will be a problem for those kind of fans), but I just wish they went with someone a little bit more attractive. Hell I would've even went as far to make Armand some kind of Creole as well, but seldom do we get power couples on these shows that are black.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see Lestat and Armand fighting over Louis next season LOL.

I really don't think that it is just Louis talking out of both sides of his mouth. The end of the last episode made a big point about Daniel remembering Rashid's presence at their original meeting. Daniel is completely distracted by that revelation this whole episode, much less concerned with the actual content of Louis' story this session. Daniel as the incisive investigative journalist is our best compass towards what to believe and he was having nothing of what Louis was being told this episode.

There have been a lot of hints of Rashid/Armand's manipulations. Louis referring to the penthouse as his coffin, aka prison. Rashid trying to dissuade Louis from doing the interview. The pages from Claudia's journals not ripped out as suggested with Lestat, but rather perfectly cut out with a ruler. Louis being a big reader but the important books being kept out of his reach high up where only Armand can reach them with the Sky Gift. Louis referring to Armand as the love of his life was clearly meant to be the cherry on top and not to be believed. Jones referred to the end of the episode meant to invoke The Graduate, where the happily ever after is all an illusion and meant to be unsettling.

Yeah, when you break it down like that you're on to something. It's going to be a long damn wait to find out how this pans out.

Luckily we'll have the Mayfair Witches in the meantime.

I'll have to think about this episode first before giving a full take, but one comment for now.

I did find it comical how much Lestat botched his attempts to spy on Louis and Claudia through Antoinette. Book Lestat in that period yes, because I could see him doing it half assed in his supreme arrogance, but show Lestat has been portrayed as much smarter albeit with the same temper.

It just felt like a contrivance to get to where they wanted to go, but then there's the aspect of is that really how it happened. Can we believe any of Louis' recollections? That's to say even if they are his recollections. My head hurts. :oldrazz:

Other than that, taking the episode in itself they did a great job with the suspense.

I thought the finale was really solid, but I can understand why some people would have issues with certain choices they made and I'm someone who's not very familiar with the source material at all. The acting in this episode was still as phenomenal as ever though between the main three and it had some great tension.

I honestly couldn't be more excited for Season 2, especially after that ending.

Definitely great tension and suspense throughout. Can't fault them from a technical standpoint and, even if I don't agree with some of the choices, making more bold and interesting choices than you'll see in most media nowadays.

As an overall piece these 7 episodes have been pretty good to excellent.

I know we live in busy times, but if you ever get the opportunity, read Interview bro. It is a lavish, chilling and fun literary experience.

The show is so good and the wait is so long, I’m gonna do my best to try to read the books after Queen of the Damned.

I'll definitely try to do that although I have to admit a part of me also wants to go into this somewhat cold since I don't want to spoil too much in terms of all the twists and turns for Season 2 and beyond. I see they have the audiobook available for free on YouTube though which makes it even easier for me.

I loved ALL the books, especially Memnoch the Devil. :D You won't regret reading them.

They've changed enough things it's still a bit like going in cold. I'm curious to see what else they will do -- so long as the storytelling still makes sense.

I've stop started a few on Audible. I love IWTV and have read/listened many times but the accompanying books seem to always start slow. I'm liking TOTBT right now with the relationship between David and Lestat.

Wow everything about this finale and series was brilliant from acting, direction, set design, costumes and music were just all on point. I can’t wait to see where they go next season. Also that feast…. savage garden indeed. Well on to Mayfair Witches in January and we’ll see if that series keeps up with the quality of this first installment in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe.

Geez this was a good series. It’s lovely to see gay relationships seen instead of just hinted at
You should watch American Horror story:NYC. Nothing hinted at there either. :p

It really is. Anyone know how the show did in the ratings for AMC?

I haven't seen anything, but I know that AMC renewed it for a second season even before this season aired and are building a cinematic universe based on Rice's writings. They paid a pretty penny for the rights to all of her books, so the show should be safe for some time, especially with these sort of reviews.

I hope so. This was very well done. :)
