I did find it comical how much Lestat botched his attempts to spy on Louis and Claudia through Antoinette. Book Lestat in that period yes, because I could see him doing it half assed in his supreme arrogance, but show Lestat has been portrayed as much smarter albeit with the same temper.
It just felt like a contrivance to get to where they wanted to go, but then there's the aspect of is that really how it happened. Can we believe any of Louis' recollections? That's to say even if they are his recollections. My head hurts.
