Horror Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire | AMC

Man, the performances in last night's episode were on another level. The acting in this show really has been pretty phenomenal so far, especially from Sam Reid and that ending absolutely broke me.

I'm just loving this whole twisted family dynamic they keep showing us and it sucks that Claudia is pretty much stuck in the middle while dealing with her own messed up problems.

Anyone know if this show is available in the UK?

Just started this, watched 2 episodes. Really enjoying it.
Finally! Now you will see why I have been teasing you relentlessly about watching Rings of Power! Why watch that trash, when you can watch this excellence! :oldrazz:

I was quite surprised to Alan Taylor's name as the director for episodes 1 and 2... I didn't realize he still had some of his Sopranos/Mad Men era magic left.

You say this, but will be back on my case when Warrior Nun releases.

Still trying to take in the latest episode. They're definitely portraying Lestat with more nuance with the benefit of knowledge of the books, as I actually felt sorry for him until he started being violent. He's definitely been given a more sympathetic take compared to the book and 1994 film.

Tonight's episode was particularly brutal. :(

There was -- I think -- a substantial deviation from the book here with Bruce. Louis and Claudia in the book never met other Vampires until they went to Europe. I'm starting to wonder if they actually do go to Europe in this series at all. Are we skipping the Theater of Vampires? That would be a shame. In the book Louis and Lestat never had this big fight so what is that about? I don't mind changes so long as they mean something. I'd really like this not to go too far off the rails. :(

I took Bruce to be their tool for keeping Claudia dependent despite aging her up. He makes it clear that she can't go out on her own.

They are going to Europe next season. I'm pretty sure this season ends with them killing Lestat and fleeing to Europe. I think the big fight was their way of making Lestat's controlling, possessive, abusive relationship physical/visual. Show/don't tell in accordance with the change of medium.

Oh, okay, good. I guess some of this is filler, then? I guess I had in mind they might do a book a season or so, considering there are what, nine books? The Dubai palace/island did come in quite late in the books. I was expecting Europe to have happened by now. I do hope the domestic violence changes don't turn off viewers and the show doesn't last. I was hoping to see a decent rendering of Queen of the Damned. The movie wasn't so great.

To use a version of my words from my post of the first episode. That end was Beautifully tragic and horrifying. This series has been fantastic and and the acting gets elevated each episode.

The cast was well chosen especially for Lestat. Tom Cruise n the movie wasn't my first choice, it wasn't even Anne Rice's either. :p

I honestly believe the creators of this show put some kind of mystical crack in this, because I am addicted. I haven't been this obsessed over a show and rewatched episodes so much since WandaVision.

I am going to be so hurt when AMC+ uploads the season finale on Sunday.

This season went by fast. Yikes. :(

Do we only have one more episode left?

I'm not sure I like the idea that Louis and Claudia will work together in an attempt to murder Lestat. Claudia isn't quite working for me either in terms of how they're using her. They've taken the nuance out of the relationship between the 3 in favour of a more blunt force trauma approach.

Also based on the ending here I assume the speculation is correct and Rashid is in fact Armand? Not sure how I would feel about that either as he's one of the most visually striking of all the Vampires in the books

I'm still enjoying the show but I can see it increasingly diverging from the material, with decreasing results.

As someone who thought the preview images and trailers were terrible I'm very surprised by how good this show turned out to be. I'm a big fan of the movie (haven't read the books) so it was an uphill battle to match Brad Pitt & Tom Cruise but somehow they did it. I'd already seen Sam Reid in a few things so I knew he'd be good, but I always thought Jacob Anderson was one of the weaker performers on Game of Thrones so his performance here caught me off guard. D&D really did him no favors as Greyworm.

The differences from the movie almost make it seem like a completely new story, which is great. I don't know how people stomach endless Shakespeare adaptions when it's the exact same story every time.

It's a relief knowing it's already been renewed. It kinda killed me when The Time Traveler's Wife was canceled, leaving the story unfinished.

Yeah, I don't mind a change so long as it works. I'm not sure the Louis/Lestat brawl worked for me. I am curious how :

They are going to show the Lestat attempted murder, unless they are planning something else. I hope they don't make so big a change that it ruins the story line. :(

I also heard a theory about Rashid that...

He might be a body swapped Lestat? I never read 'Tale of the Body Thief' but some people were pointing to that as inspiration for that choice. But I hope he's not Armand, that would be a letdown.

Awful early on for Body Thief. That's like three books away from this one. I myself would be disappointed if Armand doesn't look like he's supposed to. As much as I love Antonio Bandaras, he was as far away from what Armand was supposed to look like as possible, lol.

Holy crap, if Rashid is Lestat that might be a deal breaker for me. I might have to buy TOTBT on audible now to make sense of it.

I doubt it... In the newest episode on AMC+ (we are a week ahead of the broadcast TV episodes)...
we see a flashback to when Daniel first met Louis in the 70s and Rashid is there. Him and Louis are all friendly. He can't be Lestat because the show makes very clear that at the time of their first interview, Louis was very negative about Lestat, as he is in the book. That makes no sense in the context if they were hanging out and being friendly.

Now that you mention it I do recall Louis still being derogatory towards Lestat at the point of the first interview, referring to him having twigs in his hair....or maybe that was Daniel's recollection of the first interview. Now I feel like both of them in my confusion. :oldrazz:

But still

There could be the possibility that Lestat possessed Rashid's body, with Louis being none the wiser about it. But again I haven't read 'Body Thief' book to know more about how it works in the Anne Rice world.
