Another Reason why Activision Sucks

Why? Not that there is any chance of it, IW is amazing.

Like I said, it's the only series with any crediblity left that Activision has going for it. So hopefully it sucks, along with their two other big, sure to be crap, tentpole games, and forces them to rethink their current buisness plan.

Well Tony Hawk is going to suck, it's sucked the last several releases and I doubt a board full of technology will help.

Tony Hawk has sucked since Tony Hawk 3, and even that was the beginning of the end with it's gimmicky unlockable characters. The entire idea behind the new one is so dumb that it's mind boggling, really, but I'm sure the casual crowd will eat it up.

By the way, how many new Guitar Hero games are coming this year? I know we've got GH5, Band Hero, and DJ Hero, and Guitar Hero: Van Halen, but that still seems light for them. Shouldn't they be pumping out some crappy handheld game with the license too? And maybe announcing the next GH: Band That Doesn't Deserve It's Own Game title sometime in the near future?

Hey guys, welcome to what I was telling you like, a year and a half ago. I'm kind of shocked it's taken you all this long to figure it out. They've been doing their whole "Let's run this s**t into the ground!" thing since the Tony Hawk series, and when they put a different developer onto CoD 3 so they could crank them out on a yearly basis. Guitar Hero is going to be the death of music games, thanks to oversaturation. And Bobby Kotick is a guy who has admitted that he neither knows anything about, nor does he care to, about video games, and is running the company like you would any other corporation. "Find product that sells, keep making it and making it and making it, as it will never go out of style." He doesn't seem to realize that video games aren't f**king Cheerios or whatever, and that flooding the market with subpar products like the last few Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, and non-Infinity Ward CoD games is going to hurt his company, and his companies credibility, in the long run. I honestly hope that Modern Warfare turns out to be terrible, along with Tony Hawk: Useless Piece Of Plastic, and Guitar Hero: 18 Good Songs on a 85 Song Set List, and it finally wakes everyone up to how f**king terrible Activision is.

By the way, I'd join any ******ed Hype group that commits to not buying any Activision games...except maybe MUA2....But I'll be getting that used.

Well you can't join if you're going to call it ******ed. :(

Anyway, well done, we've all known for a year and a half that Activision sucks, but this is the first completely outrageous thing that they've done in my mind. That's why I'm so annoyed now. MW's the only Activision game I've bought in the past 2 years.

Anyway, so yeah, they blame the current economic climate on the price hike, but this is ******** because around the start of the year it was posted that Activision were the only game publishers making money atm, they are well off easily. They just know people are going to buy MW2 in the UK whatever the cost.

The Prestiege edition is exclusive to a shop and costs £120, which is a LOT more than the US price.

Ah well.

Eh, they're a business, whose sole purpose to make money. People love to hate on them for doing just that, but their product still sells by the droves. They are not the only company that run franchises into the ground for money's sake. The one two punch of constant streams of Guitar Hero/Rock Band games are killing the industry...don't dilude yourself into thinking only one of them is to blame.

Every company has those franchises that they continue to go to yearly or every other year because people continue to buy them.

Heck Capcom nearly was responsible for killing the fighting genre back in the nineties.

Do people still buy Tony Hawk games? The last one I got was released on the N64. I thought that trend died a while ago.

I don't really see the problem with this, Rock Band releases new songs every week for download. Rock Band is basically iTunes to Guitar Hero's CD service. I'm happy with the games, but not enough to pay $60, so I wait until the price drops, which happens a lot more quickly with a shorter release window to the next installment. I got Guitar Hero: Aerosmith in the Spring for $10 new at Gamestop with a guitar, why, because Guitar Hero: Metallica was just released and Gamestop thought they'd get a couple more people buying the Metallica version with the Aerosmith version and I'm sure they did.

At this point, Activision IS worse than EA.

Activision seems to have replaced EA has the "dick of the industry".

They're probably going to kill the peripheral gaming bundle themselves too. They're oversaturating the market with useless ****, and any other developer might have a good concept on a peripheral-based game will probably be killed before it gets a chance.

Not to mention overpicing.

How much is DJ Hero going to go for? And Tony Hawk?

Add that with the rest, and I can see alot of huge boxes just taking up space at stores.

A cheap new game in my country is $85. So Activision is going nuts!

$85 .. holy ****! I'm being 100% honest with you all right now.. Ready for it!?

This holiday season I will be purchasing Halo 3: ODST and nothing more. If Activision wants to woo me with MW2 I might rent it. I'll have my online gaming in the bag already. ;)

i havent paid 60 bucks for a game in a long time. Maybe im cheap or something and not in as big as a rush as all of you, but look around the internet for a bit, seriously you know theres things called deals from certain stores. I got cod4 2 weeks after its release for only 40 bucks from Sears because i took the time to look for some deals on the game. People are running around paying 60bucks for madden 10 when there are current deals out there that'll save u 10 bucks on the game and get you a subscription for sports illustrated as well. Even the new Halo game for 360, i've seen pre-order deals on that game as well that'll get you a 15 dollar gift card.

I get $10 off instantly with my Big-Box-Retail discount. Games are marked up $10 for retail. Win for me. :)

I read this thread awhile back but just finally getting around to responding. I agree it's a jerk move by Activision, but it also hits me as surprisingly stupid as well. A lot of stuff gets held back in European regions after it's US or Japan release dates anyway. A lot of European gamers seem to feel jaded enough as is. Why raise the price only on them, and say you'd raise it more if you could. I'd be afraid to do that as it'd hurt sales of what should be their big seller this year.

I wasn't planning on buying MW2 anyway as it looks like a regular vanilla FPS with prettier graphics than most. However if it costs $20 than any other regular game on top of that...you can believe it'd be a definite no on my purchase list. The only $80 games worth it to me are the special editions of games I love that come with cool extra swag. There is nothing about MW2 that screams to me that it warrants a premium special edition price for the normal version of the game.

Yeah, Activision is definately testing the waters with this game. If it still sells well, I imagine $80 will become the new $60 across the board. I hate to say it, but I really hope that no one in the UK gets this game and sends Activision a message. If any of you UK guys have friends that are excited about Modern Warfare 2, do anything you can to convince them to wait one month to buy it. One measly month.

eh i think rockband/guitar hero are ******ed games anyway. i can care less what they do to that stuff. Im glad i never bought into those games.

Personally i dont get whats so wrong with including him in the game. Unless ur saying that u dont like the idea of suicidal role models performing with a little kid on stage, then alright

Rock Band is a great game, and shouldn't be mentioned anywhere near an Activision thread, or even in the same breath as dreck like Guitar Hero.

My problem with it is Kurt Cobain was pretty much the voice of a generation, and there he is, playing with a skeleton drummer, an angel, and an xbox avatar, lip syncing Flava Flave songs. Or an entire band of Kurt Cobains playing invisible instruments to Megadeth. That's insanely stupid, and in the poorest of taste.

Imagine if in The Beatles: Rock Band you could have John Lennon sing a Bon Jovi song, or an entire group of George Harrisons sing Fame by David Bowie while playing invisible instruments. It's so bad that it's offensive.

Sad to consider a suicidal person a voice of a generation, i dont really feel sorry for him for being depicted like that, he killed himself so he obviously didn't care about himself. Id find it more offensive to be Bon Jovi and see Kurt Cobain singing my songs.

I duno maybe only people really into music find that offensive to have Beatles members singing other songs, i personally dont think its offensive. Most likely their families are getting paid for that, im sure theyd be happy to know their families are getting some support from their work after they've passed away.

If Courtney actually cared about Kurt, she'd wouldn't want his likeness to be misused in this way. If this was the Beatles, you can bet your ass Yoko would murder everyone in the god damn building if this was John Lennon.

And you need to get over the whole "oh, he killed himself, so he's not realy important" thing. If you knew anything about Kurt you'd see why he did it, and you'd also know that there's a huge ton of evidence pointing to him being murdered, really.

LOL

No one thinks that. No one other than crazy stoner grunge conspiracy theorists.

For the record tho, i think what GH is doing is in bad taste, just having him in there is pointless. If this was GH: Nirvana and they were doing what Rock Band was doing with the Beatles then itd be different but Activision is just trying to one up Rock Band...and they are going to fail.

u contradict yourself. You see why he did it but you think he was murdered.

I never said I think he was murdered, but there are inconsitencies with the situation. I believe both are plausible. If he killed himself, it was the pressure of fame, and being married to the type of woman who would license her dead husbands likeness off to sing Flava Flave songs that did it. If it was murder, she killed him. I think either way she's responsible, and now she's essentially letting Activision piss on his corpse.

I'm renting MUA2, and my brother is wasting his money on Modern Warfare 2, so that's when I'll probably play that one. :/

Please. :whatever:

Yes you are correct, Activision are jerks for getting the rights to use a dead musical figure from an opportunistic wife, while Harmonix are completely innocent for doing the same thing.

It's like you have stock in Harmonix. Give it a rest. Your adolescent blubbering won't change anything.

Oh, and GH5 so far is pretty fun, but I'm not too wild about the track list. My wife can't wait for RB: Fab Four either.
