Another Reason why Activision Sucks

Please. :whatever:

Yes you are correct, Activision are jerks for getting the rights to use a dead musical figure from an opportunistic wife, while Harmonix are completely innocent for doing the same thing.

No, dude, its two COMPLETELY different scenarios. Rock Band is actually paying some sort of tribute to the peoples likeness they are using, Activision is ONLY trying to steal some of Rock Bands thunder by grabbing another popular musician and just slapping him into their game. They arent being delicate with the situation AT ALL. They are having Kurt Cobain be portrayed in the game the way he would NEVER want to be portrayed in real life. As Joker said, having Kurt Cobain sing along to a f'ing Flava Flav songs is deplorable and just spits all over the individual. Activision should feel no less than ashamed for what they are doing. Like i said, had they of done a GH: Nirvana and captured who Cobain was, the way RB is doing with the Beatles then there would be no problems.

Meh, it doesn't bother me anyway. If I said what I thought of Cobain and his wretched band, Joker's head would explode. :p

As far as using dead guys, it doesn't bother me. Both Cobain and Lennon had wives who have used their husbands name to continue to fund their high lives (and in Love's case, literally high). But having said dead guy doesn't ruin the experience for me.

I think having a Flava Flav song in the first place is a worse offence.

Haha yea i understand where you are coming from.

I dont have a problem with them using a dead musician, but how they are going about it is in horrible taste. Like i said, they are just trying to take some of Rock Band:Beatles thunder. They arent paying any kind of tribute to Mr. Cobain.

But what do you expect? Its Activision and just about everything they do is in horrible taste.

Well, yea, Harmonix is definitely doing their tribute in a more classy way. In fact, even though I'm not the biggest Beatles fan, I'm looking forward to playing RB: Fab Four with my wife.

But GH5 is also a blast. In fact, Smells Like Teen Spirit, although not my favorite song in the world is pretty fun on the guitar. Of course I sing the wierd al version if I'm singing though. :ninja:

The one thing I will say is:

[BLACKOUT]
The best thing to come out of Nirvana is The Foo Fighters.

LOL, yea i think i remember the Weird Al version of the song more than i do the original, haha.

Yea im not a big Beatles fan either, but i do want to play the new game.

Yea, my wife loves the Beatles, so I told her I would play it with her.

In return she plays GH: Van Halen with me when it's released. :D

Originally I was going to give a pass on GH5, but after I found out that they have Nirvana's Teen Spirit (a song that I really want), now I'm not so sure. I also learned that we can import a certain # of songs from GH:WT to GH5, and that means a bigger song list. But if I buy this, then The Beatles: RB will have to wait quite awhile. Decisions...

I was wondering where the Guitar Hero 5 thread was. It seems I've found it. Man, Activision ran that franchise into the ground. I agree that what they did with Kurt Cobain is despicable. I'm not the biggest Nirvana or Cobain fan, but it's kinda pissing on his memory by having him as an avatar singing along to Flavor Flav.

Furthermore, I think that Activision has lost the music game battle. It's never good when a game that has 85 tracks from a variety of artists shows less promise than a game that features less than half that number of songs from just one band. I think Harmonix is the only company out there that still knows how to make a good music game. I think Activision should just throw in the towel with Guitar Hero, but we all know they won't. They started out decent with Guitar Hero III, but Rock Band just completely blew them out of the water.

I'm a Nirvana fan so what Activision did to the image of Cobain really irks me, and I wonder if Courtney Love wasn't lying when she said that she didn't know about this, since she has the rights to his image. However, I've been waiting forever for Rock Band to have Nirvana's two greatest songs, Teen Spirit and Come As You Are, and GH5 got one of the two, that's why I'm thinking about getting it even though overall the song list is rather poor (Stevie Wonder? Public Enemy?). However, they do have Queen/Bowie's Another Bites the Dust, though.

You mean Queen/Bowie's "Under Pressure?"

Also there is a rolling stone article that talked about the process they went through to get his likeness. Love, Grohl, and the label that owns the music had to sign off on it, plus she was directly involved in the creation of his avatar as well as his posture, clothing, etc.

She probably realized that she wished she asked for more money for it.

Oops, I meant "Under Pressure". :o

Love is now saying that she never approved the final model, and that Activision is in breach of contract no less than 4 times. I hate to support Courtney Love in anything, but she seems like the lesser of two evils here if she's not lying (hell even if she is, f**k Activision) and I hope she wins the law suit.

I don't think anyone is pissed about Cobain being in the game.

I do think that everyone is pissed about Cobain prancing around and jumping up and down to a song that isn't his. I think that's what's pissing so many people off.

If The Beetles were treated the same way, which they'd never be...because let's be honest that estate has they're ducks lined up in a row and are organized as ****. But, if Lennon had been jumping up and down to another song...I think a TON of people would have been pissed too.

It's in poor taste. I hope she wins the lawsuit.

It's like an political election.

We're not choosing the best one. We're just choosing the least evil.

Has there ever been a Queen song in GH and/or Rock Band. I would think doing Mercury's vocals would kill a normal man

I hope "Bohemian Rapsody" will be playable on GH/RB eventually. :awesome:

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the above headline is taking a liberty or two with a comment from Activision boss Bobby Kotick. Nope. Those words are straight out of the man's mouth.

Speaking at the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference in San Francisco yesterday, Kotick said "The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."

Think he knows people outside the room will be reading this kind of stuff? Course he does. He just doesn't care.

well considering Sony just released a Singstar: Queen game, I dont think vocals are too impossible

You can't sing Mercury's vocals, though, it's just not right. That, and I think very few could actually hope to really sing them either. I guess it doesn't matter since you only have to match I think pitch, but I think it'd make me cry to hear a Queen song get ripped up by somebody :(

What's even sadder is that we know that's probably how almost all of the CEO's of these big publishers think. Though, this guy seems to have no sense of PR, but I guess it doesn't matter for him

I wish that in an effort to piss off Activision, they'd let HMX release Teen Spirit to RB2 via DLC. That'd really tick Activision off, and I probably won't feel compelled to buy GH5 as a result. :)

There is no way that quote isn't taken out of context. He can not possibly mean that the way we are translating it.

He means exactly that. He has even more quotes through that interview about how he purposely over-states the economic downturn to employees to scare them out of quitting. The guy is pretty much the biggest *****ebag in the world.

I don't usually agree with your crazy rantings...but this I completely agree with.
