Ant-Man Ant-man's reviews thread

You might not want to quote lines in caps like that
Not everybody has seen it yet .

Ant-Man felt pretty vanilla. It's a cookie cutter origin story. I'm not going to lie. I did not care for the [blackout]Falcon[/blackout] cameo. As cool as it was to see him again, it was a little jarring and felt shoehorned like with all the Avenger stuff in Iron Man 2. The scene kind of makes him look like a chump...not that it's an insult being [blackout]whooped by Ant-Man.[/blackout] And yet again, we get a Marvel film with a one dimension villain. Like Lee Pace in Guardians of the Galaxy, Corey Stoll is wasted in this film. I would kill to see Edgar Wright's film because this film could have been the best in the MCU. There are even little tidbits in the film that were trademark Edgar Wright.

With that said, the film was a fun ride. I liked the added mythology with Pym's history with S.H.I.E.L.D. Michael Douglas was fantastic. And how about Paul Rudd? That dude has so much charisma. I am glad he finally got a shot at starring in a blockbuster. Evangeline Lilly is absolutely beautiful. Michael Pena was hilarious. The whole film was escapism at it's best. Phase 2 needed a lighter, smaller scale film to counteract the other larger scoped films in the series. After the bloated Age of Ultron, this film was necessary to balance things out. Ant-Man delivered that and gave us a new Avenger to root for.

3 out of 4 stars

Saw it a few hours ago, and I loved it! What a fun and charming movie! I had a big smile on my face the entire time. Marvel did it again!

I became skeptical about this movie when the news about Edgar Wright leaving the director's chair broke out, but I am so glad that my worries were proven wrong. While Wright didn't direct it, I am happy to say that I think his fingerprints are still all over the project (especially with some of the jokes). I also feel that Peyton Reed made a lot of decisions as the director that reminded me of Edgar Wright's style (such as the quick transitions).

I was also a little skeptical about not starting out the Ant-Man movies with a young Hank Pym as the hero, but what was done in the movie totally worked. [BLACKOUT]The way Wasp was woven into the story was fantastic as well; totally fangirled during the flashback scene AND the mid-credits scene[/BLACKOUT].

When it comes to the Marvel: Phase Two films, the top 3 for me are easily Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man. While I did like Age of Ultron, I am pretty shocked that I prefer a majority of the Phase Two films over it.

As for other Marvel stuff in Ant-Man: [BLACKOUT]I got my Spider-Man reference at the very end, and I gasped out loud in the theater like a dork :woot:, and the post-credits scene was fantastic. Some s*** is about to go down in Civil War. I can't wait![/BLACKOUT]

I seriously choked up when
Scott said "I love you Cassie" and went subatomic

Just saw it...

My favorite lines in the movie were...

"MOM, CAN I HAVE THE SKITTLES????"
"DO YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM? HEY! DO YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM??"
"I THOUGHT THIS WAS AVENGERS...WHERE'S IRON MAN? MOM! WHERE'S IRON MAN?"

Huh? What do you mean those lines weren't in the movie? They were very clearly the loudest things I heard in the film...in fact...for the ENTIRE FILM I heard those voices...on and on and on and on.

For the record, I did not complain to the manager because one member of the family was in a wheelchair and I decided that I would come off as a bad guy if I had his family thrown out.

Anyway...aside from not being able to hear almost anything that was said...it was okay...adding in my overall experience, I'll place it somewhere in the middle of Marvel's movies...it didnt blow my mind like The Winter Soldier or Guardians, but I didn't leave disgusted like I did during The Dark World or Iron Man 2. I didn't laugh at very many of the jokes...did not like the goofy ethnically diverse sidekicks...but the action scenes were cool.
Was it because they were ethnically diverse?

Was it because they were ethnically diverse?

No...though I mentioned that because they didn't seem very developed beyond just "here's some wacky ethnically diverse side-kicks." I just didn't find their antics very funny, though the stories the main guy told were fairly cute.

9/10

Either it was a lowered expectation factor or else they really did deliver an instant classic, it’s hard to tell at this stage. I love this movie.

Somehow it didn't feel epic enough to warrant a 10/10 perfect rating even though I really can’t think of one thing I’d change to make it better. Ant-Man is fun first and foremost. It has true heart and soul and the best humor possible without it being too much. I enjoyed the heist angle and the many surprises that kept popping up throughout its running time. Everything felt more intimate and it was the perfect way to follow Age of Ultron for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everything doesn’t have to be large, grim or of a world-changing flavor. This may signal the perfect way to move forward for their phase three. Deliver large and then small as they rotate between Avenger and solo films. Whatever the case, I hope to see more of Scott Lang as Ant-Man and his entire supporting cast. Everyone was absolutely wonderful in their roles.

I saw this with a group of 15 family members and every last one of them loved it. Kids and adults, men and women everyone was smiling and raving about the film... that doesn't happen often.

I haven't been to a movie with the whole family in over 20 years.

:csad:

I gotta admit, I'm a little disappointed to learn that
Michael Peña's character is just comic relief. When I heard he'd joined the cast, I assumed he'd be playing a heroic/villainous type.
But I'm sure that won't take away from my overall enjoyment of the movie.

Well he does get to
play a heroic role, just with a very comic bent.

The movie was good. Not great, but very good. Go see it.

Wow.

had great fun watching this. laughed alot and was entertained. enjoyed the 3 main characters especially Douglas and Rudd. the film suits the genre to a tee. this is why Marvel is so clever at family fun oriented movies. dont take it so seriously :)

Michael Pena was really able to knock people out. Makes sense because in the first few minutes, he mentions that he was the only one able to knock out the big guy in the prison

I was hoping to like this more than I did. It was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be -- by-the-numbers and relatively bland.

When watching Ant-Man, it's clear that this film had the potential to be truly great in the right hands.

Just saw this, repeat viewings and time will obviously sway my opinion one way or the other but right now thus us my favourite solo Marvel film. It may even be my favourite Marvel film, it was so much fun. I love films about heists as it is so to get a superhero film that is also a heist movie was incredible. Paul Ruud and Michael Douglas were brilliant as well, in fact I liked all the casting (Scott Lang's pals were a real treat). Overall right now I'd give it an 8/10.

It could be argued that he does more heroic stuff than Hank Pym does in the entire film.

Good movie, but like others have said...it could've been truly great.

It was like missionary sex. It's nice, but after about ten movies, let's bust out the whips and chains, shall we? It feels so vanilla for an MCU movie, like something that would've been made immediately after Iron Man, when the formula was still being tested.

The inclusion of
Falcon
seems like something that was there because they put a gun to Reed's head, and not because it progressed the story.

There's no smiley available here that can express my... um...

Then if they went super big with this it would have suffered the same criticisms AOU did. They honestly can't win with everyone and I actually find it charming they went back to their roots, especially with the spectacle they tried to make AOU.

If I had a dime for every time I've heard this similar sentiment about an MCU cameo. It's simple connective tissue. Try to have fun with it once in a while bud.
